Norton Buffalo did one of the best Austin City Limits show ever. This was back in either 80 or 81. I was in South Carolina watching on a small 6 in black and white tv. His show was so full of energy and musicianship that I was rocking!! It was a full hour show, and it was a mind blower!! On a six inch screen!! Been a fan for a long long time. RIP Norton, thanks for the music. This video gives a small taste of that show.

I remember that show! I recorded it on a VHS tape and later transferred it to a cassette. Still have it.

@@billc6087 Robert and Bill, thank you for mentioning the ACL show that Norton did. I believe it was recorded in November 1978, and was first aired in January 1979. I was watching it then too, but didn't get a chance to record it. It was "Norton Buffalo and The Stampede" at that time, and they were playing many of the songs that were on his two FANTASTIC albums for Capitol ("Lovin' In The Valley Of The Moon", and "Desert Horizon"). I saw the band perform at San Jose State University in the late 70's. The musicianship in that band was indeed amazing. Fast forward to around 2007 (? or so), and I began trying to find a recording of the ACL show. I was a bit surprised that it hadn't appeared in decades as a PBS rerun, and that didn't show up here on RUclips. I then decided to do some research, and found a link on the PBS website where I contacted the folks who are in possession of the old ACL videotapes. They told me that they still had the show in their archive (digitized), but that there were no plans to release it (although they were releasing some of the old shows). I tried to convince them that it was worthy of consideration for re-airing, but no such luck. I then went to Norton's website and found a contact link. I wrote to him about my love for the Capitol albums, The Stampede, and the ACL show, and asked him if he had ever thought about trying to get the ACL show back on the air somehow. As you might expect, Norton answered my message very promptly and was very gracious. Unfortunately, he seemed much more focused on his current projects and music. Understandable, but still a disappointment to me, and I'm sure to many people who loved the music he made with The Stampede. I sure hope to see that video surface again someday... and I'm not getting any younger...

My pro harp instructor Dave Gage completely broke down the complex rhythm of this tune for me. He really understands the subtleties of Norton's style.

I was impressed also. One of the best harmonica players I’ve ever seen.

I was lucky enough to see Norton live in Hopland, California at what was the Mendocino Brewing Company at the time (early 90s). It was a very small room, but full of fans and characters. Norton came over to our table during the break and said hello, then ended up sitting with us for a few minutes. Shook my boyfriend’s hand and gave him a friendly back pat. He was so warm, kind and unpretentious. I’ll never forget him. ❤️
This song popped into my head today, so glad I came here and found this live performance. What a delight, thanks for posting it!

I saw him at a prerecording gig at the river city in mill valley to see how love'n in valley of the moon was ready to record. he had on a white suit that big enough that he sorta swam in it when he played. He held 4 cromatic harmonicas and he was going up and down on them and hitting the side butons and that suit just bounceing off him. Magic Dick was thire and he sat in. At one point they did the best drum solo I I ever saw to this day he started on the drums and then played every instermint on the stage. It was a blg show in a little place
