Inspiring. Fifty five years ago at the age of 14 I visited the cloisters with my mother and brothers. Another reason for loving my mother who realized the importante of shaping our spirits in great art. Congratulations de the Met. Hopefully I will return.
I visited just once, in college. Watching this video, I realized how much the architecture (layout of stairs, chapels, halls, etc.) has permeated my dreams--I have walked through these spaces more than once since my actual visit.
What he didn't say was that this huge Tapestry took 40 years of restoration !!! some people spent their entire Professional lives working on it !! There is a film on YT about it.
I love art. I seek it out wherever I go. I have been so fortunate in my life to have seen some amazing museums including this one. A fantastic place that is away from usual museum row in NYC. Too bad the didn't show the treasury room. The gold and silver works there are awe inspiring. If you go to NYC, this museum is should be on your agenda.
I was lucky enough to grow up nearby and spent many days enjoying the museum, summer and winter. It inspired me as well. I hope you do get a chance to visit again.
This exhibit took my breath away with its Beauty And transported me to a quiet place of refuge. It is difficult to imagine that this place exists in N.Y. Thank you for posting I have enjoyed many visits to the Met.
At 8:50 You had to wait so long? The Royal Manufacturers De Wit was founded in 1889. Yvan Maes De Wit, its present director, represents the fourth generation of tapestry restorers and dealers of fine antique tapestrieThe Royal Manufacturers cleans, conserves and restores tapestries. It is today’s the leading restorer of tapestries in the world for museums and one of the leading restorers for private customers. The Royal Manufacturers De Wit is situated in Mechelen (Flanders) " Nice site"
"This was the early day's of oil painting, whitch was kind of a new invention at this point " Yes that is true. It was Robert Campin 'The master of Flémalle' (Mérode tripliek) (Flemish) who invented this technique but it was Jan and Hubert Van Eyck (Flemish) they made the technique commercial and popular . Ever heard of "the Flemish Primitives"
Thank you for the tour. A couple comments on the production...why are some of the shots of the art and artifacts not shot with the tripod? Unsteady shots of artwork take away from the art. Also, many of the tight shots of artwork and artifacts are very short offering little time to appreciate them. And the piece could have used more dissolves between shots. Cloisters are places to slow down and reflect. Unfortunately this documentary felt rushed. Not sure why that had to be.
I love how Joseph has a turban on his head, but the streets have medieval british buildings XD historical accuracy had not been discovered yet :""""""D

The Cloisters took twenty years of work.
Junion Rockefeller had "great vision and planning" in his gift
( The Cloisters )
I like art made in Europe during the Middle Ages. My favorite ones are the unicorn tapestries.
Tenture de 1500 environ, laine et soie avec fils d'or et d'argent : a orné le château de Verteuil ( Charente) jusqu'en 1920...

Our dusty body remains will rot away into the earth when we pass on, but our souls will be forever with God.
welcome to golgumbaz, bijapur, South, india
Perhaps. But each stone of the Cloisters on the Hudson River was brought in ships and put together as if it had stood there since the Middle Ages.
WTF ! The Southern Netherlands . That is "Flanders" Famous for his tapesteries .
Eloise rubs a leaf of spearmint across her teeth awaiting Abelard... sigh to have a time machine
❤
I love how instead of saying uh during pauses, he simply stays silent for a few seconds. We should all do that. Saying uhhh gets annoying
Excellent observation! 💯 "Uhhh" is extremely basic and silence is golden.

I'm here because of the web-quest my teacher assigned
Temporary dust buddies buried on earth, but soulful & eternal buddies in Heaven.
