  • This video illustrates the viability of growing olives in the mild winter, temperate climate of the Pacific Northwest. Selecting early to mid-season ripening varieties, and growing the plant against a sunny south or west wall or alternatively on favourable warm wind sheltered sites is key to consistent and heavy production. It is bet to plant two or more varieties as cross pollination increases fruit set. For winter protection strategy, see our lemon & lime video here: • Growing Lemons and Lim... .

This is a great video. It's so cool to see what you have growing at such a northern latitude. It goes to show you what a little awareness and ingenuity can do.

Thank you. Great to know. Glad pomegranates have varieties that grow in our zones, too.
Thank you for labeling it as Celsius,

Gorgeous to think we can be growing all of these fruits and vegetables here and yet we grow so little.

I recently received my two olive trees from Bob and Verna and I must say I was impressed! Great size and beautiful foliage. Now lets see how they do in pots in Halifax! Fingers crossed.

Thank you for the information, brings up nice memories visiting your orchard. It is much colder here (zone 3), but I would like to experience with your method of covering and light to grow things a zone warmer.

La verdad es que cada vez que pienso en sitios como su país , veo lo afortunados que somos en parte al tener el clima mediterráneo. Aun así, aquí cultivo especies de la India que serian impensables, algo así como el olivo o una higuera en Canada.

Thanks for sharing! We just got a couple olive trees and are interested in planting on the south side of our house to get the radiant heat; but how do we make sure that it doesn't damage our foundation? What did you do to plant right against the house like that?

Can you please do more videos on your olive trees? Are they planted against the fence?

The olive trees in the video are against Bob's house (west facing). I have mine against a (south facing) fence and they are doing well.

Bob, do you fertilize your olives? I am in Qualicum and some varieties are slow growing and have sparse foliage. Can this be encouraged with fertilization?

Ancient olive trees of Israel. How can they be olive trees of Israel if Israel as country didn’t exist until 70 years ago. Call it what it is. Stolen Palestinian olive trees. Other than that, this is an incredible video and thank you for all the information.
