I love these types of videos to spice up piano improv time! Thank you for sharing!! I hope you have lots more in all kinds of styles coming in the future!!
Nice gospel basics! Gospel can get complicated, so it's nice to see a bridge to more advanced concepts. And the download earned you a Subscribe from me!
Great video Tim, you gave some very good ideas! I just wanna correct you over the "gospel" cadence: it seems you were treating that as a plagal cadence, since you played a IV on the right hand. In truth, since you're playing a G as bass, the F triad's notes work as the b7, the 9 and the 4 (or 11), in order to create a G9sus4 (or G11), which is nothing but a V7. Thus, we have just another kind of perfect cadence, just more "gospel". I hope I was helpful. Best regards :)
Thank you for sharing these tips. Had a lot of fun with it. The 2 (+5), 3, 1 jingle at the right moment is very effective. Looking forward to part 2. Would be really cool if you could take a lead sheet and show how one would apply these to an actual song to spice things up effectively.
Thank you, Tim; this was just the ticket, for me. Liked & Subscribed. As a (late) piano beginner whose direction is gospel styles of playing, your lesson provided exactly the clues I needed at this point. These walk-ups reminded me of 'Love Letters' ruclips.net/video/cZMTkQrMgQs/видео.html which is a style I love.
It’s nice how these simple concepts overlap with country music
I love learning how it's just little motifs that give certain musical styles their unique and easily-recognized qualities
Yup - check out montunos for how to make music sound Latin 👍
