    The really crazy thing about the council, was that their biased view of Clarkson could have cost them very very dear. What they never understood, was who would buy the farm if Clarkson had said "up yours I'm selling the farm?" ONLY ONE BUYER. A DEVELOPER. A few quid in the Tory coffers and he'd be away building 400 houses on the land, a school and a shopping area. They have been very very lucky. Oxfordshire council is already trying to fight a developer on another farm that sold. Just shows how brainless the council was.

      The downside to that is that the tax payers end up paying the council's legal costs and any reparations :(

      Probably unlikely since it was legal for the council to do that before the new law passed.

      And it is likely considered a pure economic loss and usually you can’t claim for things like lost revenue. The case of Spartan Steel vs Martin the claimant could sue for profit lost on damaged metals and the cost of them metals but not for money the factory would have made had it not been taken out of action due to the defendant

    West Oxfordshire District Council is going to be furious if Jeremy and all his buddies in the co-operative from Season 3 convert 10 buildings each a-la-Clarkson style - there'll also be heart attacks and apoplexy in the local Parish Council - the ones who started all the opposition. And it'll serve them right too.

    Let’s all thank the council for their actions. Without their war against Jeremy this issue would not have gained national attention and likely no action by the UK government would have been taken. It was only because of their stance that this was taken up and changes made at the highest levels of government. Without the attitudes and actions they showed Diddly Squat might have been OK but countless other farmers would still be fighting and losing their own local battles. Everyone should buy them a pint and thank them when they see them!

    This is a great decision and Jeremy has put two fingers up to West Oxfordshire District Council and their so called and totalled biased Planning Committee. Jeremy should take advantage of these new rulings and expand and diversify his farm up to the maximum permitted levels. The great news is that these changes can be done without planning consent.

    • @samm4265
      @samm4265 4 месяца назад +2

      I agree Clarkson has been treated appalling by the council and the new decision to allow him to reopen his restaurant is the right one. However, I am not so sure about this new change in law giving free rights to change building use without any planning permission, it would mean that an old tin farm building on a piece of land near to your property that maybe owned by a certain known community could now become one large dwelling on land that may not be suitable in terms of drainage, sewage, water services this then causing problems to the environment and surrounding area.

    • @JohnSmith-di2ru
      @JohnSmith-di2ru 4 месяца назад +2

      Although planning permission may not be necessary I would think building regulations still apply.

    About time. West Oxfordshire District Council's behaviour regarding Diddly Squat Farm has been appalling from the verry start - it's had nothing to do with planning, but has been a personal vendetta to drive Clarkson out. The chairman of the council should be dismissed for his unprofessional attitude - shame on him, and on the rest of the council for supporting him.

    And allowing this is so much cheaper than supporting them financially, which they said, they would do after Brexit (when the EU stopped doing it.
    Anyway, it's a good change. And the gouvernment can continue to stab them in the back, while overloading them with their own bureaucracy, which hasn't changed.

    I am being cynical but hasn’t an election just been called. Someone is trying to look good by doing the obviously right thing? At least two ministers should get re-elected. Over here the (Oz) government would have just sacked the council for being so obviously corrupt or biased or just wasting public funds. I write a email to council and the sh*t gets fixed almost pronto, no complaints over councils here. Another reason I left Jolly old England! NSW in Oz

    Clarkson and his wife are not low on money, so the court battle is minor. But the court cost for the council comes from tax payers. All that money could have been put to better use. The people coming to the farm travel a long distance to get there which would bring in much more money to the local businesses. i wonder how much more local tax money are they going to spend fighting the farm
