This is possible or not? In generator stator side we give AC input so as time varying magentic field is vary and so chainging magnetic flux is Link with armature and emf is produced So here there is no need to rotate the rotaer to turbine?

I love your teaching patterns
Great explanation sir, cleared all my concepts..!
I think the poles are labeled incorrectly, as typically a N pole should have magnetic flux lines going outward and inward for the S pole (the flux line arrows appear correct based upon the DC flow through the rotor coils). And the current should be maximum when a rotor pole is directly across from a stator winding, not when the winding is in between the poles. Then use "Flemings right-hand rule for generators" to get the direction of the current. As best I can tell the current directional arrows might also be backwards, but it's hard to tell with the current shown as zero at the incorrect time. Otherwise it's a pretty nice animation.
I think you are right but how cant it be that nobody say anything about that? How can it be that an expert with millions of subscribers says something so wrong? Faraday Newman law is the base for this kind of things....So are we really right?

This is good video for introduction on AC generator. Thank you for sharing.
Nice video. I believe that, if you view 01:28 of the video, the rotating field has poles at 9 o'clock labelled as "NORTH" and 12 o'clock labelled "SOUTH", but the winding direction is the same viewing the pole face: this seems to be a contradiction of the right-hand-rule; the winding directions should be opposite on the adjacent poles.
Yes jerome whelan, the direction of currents there should be in reverse direction
jerome whelan hi
I was going to comment the same thing. However I am not sure whether the currents should have inverted directions or just the labels N and S should be inverted.
that was outstanding .can you post one on how to calculate the size and number of turns of each coil?
Fantastic explanation, simple and concise. Thank you

Excellent video. Before watching this video I didn't understand how the windings were physically laid out in the stator and rotor, but now it is very clear. Great job!
I could listen to him all day !
Just a 16 year old reading these comments and doing his project. Also i have never seen an alternator in my life but thanks for the basic understanding
Great video. Greater detail then all the others. Had one question.
Are the magnetic lines of flux "flowing" in the correct direction on the rotor windings?
They appear to be south to north instead of north to south.
The lines are not pointing correctly. N pole should be pointing outwards.
I wich I had a Professor like you teaching me the subject
Me too
Excellent graphics and explanation - thank you
Thank you, very much, for this video. Helped me a lot!
nice information
Your magnetic flux lines in the rotor are shown going from the south pole to the north pole, but I believe they should be going from the north pole to the south pole. Aside from that, great video!
How I love Lesics just for the mere fact that they always boost my love for engineering every time I watch their content.

if the armature coil was fixed to a second rotating axle, you could create an electric clutch by adjusting the voltage on the rotor and armature coils.

What a great video. Had no idea how alternator made/works. So what happens/causes my car's alt to not work anymore? What is the usual part that breaks? Is it not spinning & all the internals are still good or vice versa.
symptom for alternator failure battery charge gets down probably firstly a service or battery signal arrives in the dashboard cluster finally cars get off if it is an electronic injection. check out if abnormal sound coming, if bearing, if not check the mounting and belt tension and then finally check the terminal connections after inspecting the above you please start your car and check the voltage with the multi meter if the voltage is in the range of 11 to 12v for five minute interval, then your alternator is working other wise please visit the nearest dealer.
in most cases the brushes get worn down and stop giving the needed voltage to excite the field. Nowadays folks tend to just replace the alternator thinking if the brushes are worn the bearings are probably next. Soooo, the market has favored that and alternator brushes are not available for every version in the field. I tend to disagree. If you can find brushes for your alternator then inspect yours. If the brushes look un-even, or are pitted, and look like they have been burnt replace them. Its a pretty simple process on most vehicles. Take the opportunity to clean the slip rings with a commutator stone too... It will most likely get you charging again!
Splendid video, very clear.
This is amazing! thanks sooooo much.
Nice Tutorial !
Greetings from Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Please keep making these Interesting Educative tutorials ;)
hi
When did Pakistan become Islamic republic of pak?
thanks for the awesome explanation! what's the amazing software used to show the alternator's functioning?
Nicely explained. Thank you.
very clear and concise explanation within 5 minutes.
Sorry for the question, but since the rotor coils are excited by DC current, we would be using electricity to make electricity?
It's good to generate 1500 MW by using 250v as starter. Isn't it bad ?
The DC generator supplied the DC current that is converted to AC. The motive force for the system is provided by an outside source. The alternator in your car, for example, gets its motive force from the alternator belt attached to the drive shaft of the car's engine. It's not clearly explained in this video.
Something like that, anyway you need an external mechanic work to really generate electricity. You can also see this kind of electric machines with permanent magnets such as the brushless motors, instead of the rotating coils. These machines are also used as constant RPM motors, when you have variating loads Ex. an elevator. Also in the past they used this machine as a cos fi corrector due to it can act as an inductive load, as any other motor, or a capacitive load. Instead of using banks of capacitors. Anyway the rotor coils use like a 1% of the electricity that consumes or generates the machine. These datasheets are studied in every single motor and there exists a lot of maths to determine the parameters.
Very true. But a small amount of DC source i.e. Dc input is required.Afterall the output we obtain is a 3phase AC voltage.😁😁
I was asking the same question good thing I found yours..lol so what would be the difference to this kind of of generator to a generator with permanent magnets? jsut correct me if my statement is wrong :3
If permanent magnets used for 3phase generator like this shown the voltage in the rotor field is then non adjustable ...so voltage regulator job lot harder and additionally this generators are gigantic would require very big permanent magnets .Permanent magnets have constant field production this would be very difficult to handle as well expensive.
I think he said PM when talking DC motors which would be correct. As these are single phase motors!
Yup, PM generators are more usefull for things like small wind turbines etc where an inverter is connected to the DC supply of the alternator.
Very comprehensive explanation and good animations as well
Thank you,so easy to know the theory about the generator through this video!
Minute 1:29 I think there's a mistake in the sense of the currents (just 2 of the coils), because it doesn't correspond with the magnetic field shown. Can someone check it? Thanks!
You are correct. The top and bottom coils have currents going in the wrong direction. The direction shown should produce North poles not south based on the right hand rule of magnetic fields induced by looped currents (up for CCW and down for CW).
I noticed it too, they placed there N and S at the wrong places
Friggin science man..

Okay, good, Ian Knau. Thanks for finishing your thought this time.
Uh, nope, Ian Knau! But I can see that *you* are, since it looks like you got all butt-hurt and took offense to something where none was given. Maxx Fordham
WOW.. shut the fuck up you friggin arrogant piece of shit.
Finally understand the exciter purpose in this video. TY
Thank you! It's very helpful.
why doesn't the rotor use permanent magnets instead of DC electromagnets?
It is well possible to use permanent magnets. Small alternators usually run with it.
one of the disadvantages of using permanent magnet is the magnetic field relatively constant, isn't it?
Linda Kurniawati yes but that doesn't matter because the amount of drag on the rotor will always commensurate with the load (electrical resistance) on the coils so the more current you drain the higher the drag and vice versa.
because then it would be a dynamo XD
TheSoxmania nope because you will still have magnets swiping across the 3 pick up coils. As a magnet nears a coil it produces electricity in one polarity and does the same and it moves away. A dynamo is made by rotating the coils within a permanent magnet field, the rotor's interface will be brushes instead of slip rings.
1:55 isn't magnetic field comes from north pole to south🤔
I liked the explanation very much.
Thank you for this video
It didn't take long for me to get lost ! However, this is a great educational video thank you. I will continue to try to work it out !
Engine peak rpm is around 8000 and with the pulley ratio of 3:1 the rpm at the alternator becomes about 24000. So if I am not wrong such low rpm range ac generators are not used in an automotive industry. What kind of an alternator have you considered in the video? and where are they used?
hydroelectric power generators maybe running on low rpm...wind power also low rpm...better to be low rpm, because less wear and tear to the parts
1:28 wrong diagram representation. Working on without magnet projects vlog. You can watch it not a promotion
Thank you. I was very confused. Nearly thought that something is going wrong with me .
What's wrong, the polarity?
@@CombraStudios the direction of field lines is wrong. Use right hand rule you will get that he has drawn the feild lines in the opposite direction.
@@Dhanush-zj7mf Hello, I just used the right hand rule for the 1:27 pic. It shows the N coils are correct and the S coils show cyan arrows in wrong direction

Is there an Alternator that uses magnet to generate magnetic field or all of them only uses electricity to create the magnet field?
It does exists its called fixed magnet alternator.
I had a magneto on my bicycle.
someone can tell me why magnetic field comes out from south pole and comes in to north pole? Isn't it on the contrary?
its just that the notation, no problem...

Alternator is a misnomer, it is an electrical generator. End of story.
alternator happens to be a part of the generator genius
I don't think so. As the produced emf by AC generator is of alternative nature (i.e, the curve of produced emf alternates in a certain period of time), it is called as Alternator. So, it's not a misnomer.
Very well explained! Great video!
