Boxing made its Olympic debut at the 1904 Games in St Louis, since then boxing has been staged at each edition of the Games, except in 1912 in Stockholm, owing to Swedish law, which forbade the practice.
The rules have evolved since the 1980s: 1984 in Los Angeles: protective helmet obligatory; 1992 in Barcelona: set-up of an electronic scoring system to strengthen the objectivity of refereeing; 2007: standardised point scoring. Women's boxing will make its debut at the 2012 London Games in London.

This is probably one of the most pure amatuer fights of all time. Boxing wise, it doesnt get much better than this.
To all the people arguing about who won, watch the full fight at 0.25 speed, count the punches, try to see which ones landed clearly, and only then complain here about the results.

This is was a great fight, fought at the highest level.
I had lomachenko won by 1 point. It was super close the 2 rounds is what made the difference

While this was a close match, I think the judges made the right decision. Watch it several times if you have to. Both are good, but Lomachenko was more aggressive, and threw better punches.
And now loma is 3 times world champion and will look to unify his belts

I was at the Excel arena I thought at the time before the decision was announced that Vasyl soundly beat the Cuban, after watching it on youtube I am only further convinced that the right man won. I do not know what all this so called controversy is about.

Best way to watch this fight is by not listening to commentators. So, switch off the sound and count the effective punches ie. the punches landed to the head. You can clearly see who won the fight.
These announcers sound like they're working out how amateur boxing works on the fly

Fair decision, Cubans always play the spoiler role, if they can't lead they trying to spoil the match - this one is spoiled, a lot of klinches and really hard to say where is the clean punch and where is not - hard to judge. But here it seems to be very accurate - I have same score.
if u r technically superior to ur opponent (and Cubans r 99% of the time), only a fool would press the fight against someone whose only chance is to smother u. as far as Toledo goes, he is in fact a rather aggressive and exciting fighter, if u watch his fights in the WSB, but here he is fighting one of the best amateur boxers of all time, so u cant expect him to go all out.

Lomachenko is just much better boxer all around! and about Toledo this guy was drop quite a few times, he lost again in the final of 2013 world championship in Kazakhstan, he still good but he never gonna be great

aggression has no role in that match, since its 2012, where they only count punches landed and dont score it with a 10 point system like now.

Gamboa-Loma at FW as amateurs would have been a hell of a scrap. I'd go with Gamboa! Loma won this fight He won the first two rds. Cuba needed a Mario Kindelan here to tame Lomachenko!

Why I cant watch it
Toledo lost that fight. Where you saw him winning the fight? Lomachenko deservedly got the win.
without helmets, toledo would have stopped the excessive clinching after the first combination he took breaking the clinch. he would have be more hesitant to press because most of his punches would have totally failed instead of glancing on the helmet. and it would have been ended with a ko no one can discuss.
there's even studies that show helmets in boxing increase brain trauma because people take more risks and more punches. helmets are definitely important in tae kwon do where a bare kick may send you straight to the hospital, but in boxing, it kinda spoil the game by making the target bigger.

Macoroni macorino is a butt hurt person. I see this person polluting ever upload of Lomachenko's with his garbage. Saying that Lomachenko only landed 1 punch in the fight. He landed a lot that he didn't get credit for. Toledo was out hustled in this fight and he didn't open himself up because he was dropped once by Lomanchenko and he knows Lomanchenko. I wouldn't be surprised to see Toledo win a gold in 2016.

Past is past and it was a good fight too.Loma don't knock out Toledo.It was 19 to 11 or 12 for Vasyl,but in this fight Toledo landed the most clear and clean punches.Toledo win this fight.
Just look the bought in slow motion. You can see that Lomachenko put two punches where Toledo puts just one.
It has been 5 years, love to know if you still feel the same, i felt it was purely a one sided fight. I like Toledo, too but feel like Loma toyed with him like a YoYo. Love to hear an old renewed perspective, respect.

This was a damn close fight. Toledo i thought won by a close margin.
I agree the fight was close and Toledo did a great job of nullifying lomachenkos offence but his work rate was too low to really win the rounds. Definitely think this was the best opponent he faced at the Olympics as far as competitiveness.
