Two men that stand 10’ tall! I love these long form interviews! I’ve never had an inside look into the mindset of a warrior until Jocko and others started doing them. Our country is truly blessed to have people that run towards the fight in order to allow the rest of us to have the ability to pursue happiness instead of mere survival. I have a son in prep for Selection (18D) and he’s cut from the same cloth as these warriors. Now I’m getting to know my son better than ever because I’m getting a feel for what makes him really tick like never before!
@@rtk90083 he got to the PT test prior to Selection and was a little slow on a run so he could try Selection. The wisdom he was given was to make the Army a journey of doing a lot of different things on his way to his goal and he saw that too. So he was placed in 82nd Airborne and Ranger School is next. He’s made Sergeant and prior to the Army he was already an experienced paramedic and somewhere he’ll get some assignment where he can go to a medic school. He really enjoys the Army.

Gotta thank you for this podcast. Was in the middle of a hard run workout last night and I was in my head about how many miles were left. I remembered Mike Glover's words about just focusing on whats in front of you and that got me through. "Left foot, right foot...."
mike glover has done podcasts with andy stumpf and mike ritland. both are great watches as well. they cover some of the same and different things and things in more details and in different conversations. andy's podcast is cleared hot and mikes is mike drop. both are on youtube. highly recommend both podcasts. especially the episodes with mike glover. andy has done several podcasts with mike and all of them are great watches.
My 3rd time watching this particular episode, and I learn something new every time. Mike is the quintessential “operator”, when I think of Delta I think of Mike fing Glover! Everyone would benefit greatly from taking 4 hours of your life and really listening to what he is saying! I rarely comment, but after the 3rd time this should be required listening for every American! Two legends, thank you both for everything you’ve done and will do!

But online it does say he passed selection for Delta so I’m really not sure either. He’s been on that podcast multiple times and I would have to listen to a few to find the one.
1:04:18 - do a difficult task with someone. even someone you just met, if you work with them and have a clear cut goal you both subscribe to a bond will form. it is at that time you can conduct warfare with that individual because sufficient trust has formed. ive experienced this myself and fairly recently actually

Great listen! My dad was SF stationed at FT Devens. He retired in 80 and he spoke a little about his training and after hearing this interview it has connected the dots! Enjoyed it and thank you guys for your service.

In and around 1970, i visited the Tomb of the unknown soldier in DC with the Boy Scouts. I'll never forget the guard was named SGT Moffit. The good SGT said "do not come onto the other side (his side) of the barrier separating the public from him , the walkway, and Tomb. A little kid, about 5-6 years old, lifted the barrier (like at a movie theater) and went under and on to the guard walk matt. SGT Moffit yells "HALT, HALT" then points his rifle with bayonet (a long one) into the face of this little kid. The kid was frozen in time with her mouth wide open. Then the good SGT yells something like, remove yourself to the public side of the barrier. The kid couldn't move, so one of the parents reached over and extracted the shocked little kid. The entire crowd was in silent shock, then SGT Moffitt went back to the routine like nothing happened. It was one of the craziest things ive seen. The kid is probably still in therapy.
And that my friends, is why you dont take kids everywhere haha. Thanks for sharing.. 53 years ago. Kind of crazy to think about, then again I’m 18 so anything is crazy to think about HA.
I just discovered Mike Glover Actual and his training courses. I'm looking forward to taking his Carbine courses. This guy is a hero in my humble opinion.
I love how jocko talks about jui jitsu is a way of thinking. And how that helped him think about problems in a new way. I get the same from rock climbing and its awesome to have a side passion that applies to every aspect of life.
I am utterly shocked this pairing took this long to happen.. you’re talking two of the best leaders ever getting together having a beer and having a casual but real conversation. This is why they are both successful business leaders and owners after these times..

Jocko, you are an inspiration or even define the word in a way. I served in the US Navy from 1990 to 1995 and was a Craft Mech on the LCAC out of Camp Pendleton. I worked with the Force Recon and Seal Teams throughout my career. I always like those guys because they made me feel like I was part of something big and important and our focus is paramount. Being in the amphib Navy I obviously served with many Marine types as well. It is the soldiers like the special forces and even basic Marines that make us Squids motivated. It is people like you and your pods that make me feel safe that we are still the top military in the world. It has never been the tech for me. It is the type of people that are serving that show me we are above the rest. Our military men and women are the best and it is not only because of our beliefs on how to engage the enemy but also because of the way we all care for each other. I heard a story on Boardwalk Empire where a guy is offered to visit Heaven and Hell. He goes to hell first and he see everyone seated at an endless top notch restaurant where all the food is there on the table for them. They can't eat it though because the spoons are too long for them to put the food in their mouth. Then he goes to Heaven and everything is the same with all the awesome food and everyone had the long spoons but they were all feeding each other so they were all content. This is how I compare our military to others. We work together for the good of everyone even our enemy.

Getting in Jiujitsu, Muay Thai over 2 in a half years ago and getting in the gym over 5 years and change the diet is the best thing I could have ever done, jocko has been a big influence on me ever since I started watching him after our brown belt coach told me about jocko and knows him personally. Ever since I’ve started watching his podcast I’ve watched just about every one.

I listen constantly to Jocko guests and Echo. This particular discussion is tremendous! One thing in my heart is using everything discussed because we must be prepared. One other thing is and must be listening to the Holy Spirit if one is a Christian and have the tools of The Word in discernment in a situation. Each case I encountered during ministry with people there are times when you need to listen split second for divine help to discern the individual you are dealing with needs extraordinary assistance and/or the power we are about to defend ourselves with.

Two men that stand 10’ tall! I love these long form interviews! I’ve never had an inside look into the mindset of a warrior until Jocko and others started doing them. Our country is truly blessed to have people that run towards the fight in order to allow the rest of us to have the ability to pursue happiness instead of mere survival.
I have a son in prep for Selection (18D) and he’s cut from the same cloth as these warriors. Now I’m getting to know my son better than ever because I’m getting a feel for what makes him really tick like never before!

@@rtk90083 he got to the PT test prior to Selection and was a little slow on a run so he could try Selection. The wisdom he was given was to make the Army a journey of doing a lot of different things on his way to his goal and he saw that too. So he was placed in 82nd Airborne and Ranger School is next. He’s made Sergeant and prior to the Army he was already an experienced paramedic and somewhere he’ll get some assignment where he can go to a medic school. He really enjoys the Army.

My 3rd time watching this particular episode, and I learn something new every time. Mike is the quintessential “operator”, when I think of Delta I think of Mike fing Glover! Everyone would benefit greatly from taking 4 hours of your life and really listening to what he is saying! But online it does say he passed selection for Delta so I’m really not sure either. He’s been on that podcast multiple times and I would have to listen to a few to find the one.

In and around 1970, i visited the Tomb of the unknown soldier in DC with the Boy Scouts.
I'll never forget the guard was named SGT Moffit. The good SGT said "do not come onto the other side (his side) of the barrier separating the public from him , the walkway, and Tomb. A little kid, about 5-6 years old, lifted the barrier (like at a movie theater) and went under and on to the guard walk matt. SGT Moffit yells "HALT, HALT" then points his rifle with bayonet (a long one) into the face of this little kid. The kid was frozen in time with her mouth wide open. Then the good SGT yells something like, remove yourself to the public side of the barrier. The kid couldn't move, so one of the parents reached over and extracted the shocked little kid.
The entire crowd was in silent shock, then SGT Moffitt went back to the routine like nothing happened. It was one of the craziest things ive seen. The kid is probably still in therapy.
And that my friends, is why you dont take kids everywhere haha. Thanks for sharing.. 53 years ago. Kind of crazy to think about, then again I’m 18 so anything is crazy to think about HA.

I love how jocko talks about jui jitsu is a way of thinking. And how that helped him think about problems in a new way. I get the same from rock climbing and its awesome to have a side passion that applies to every aspect of life.
My old neighbor was French foreign Legion, 120 mile forced March. He gave me advice before Afghanistan, kept me alive.
I am utterly shocked this pairing took this long to happen.. you’re talking two of the best leaders ever getting together having a beer and having a casual but real conversation. This is why they are both successful business leaders and owners after these times..

Jocko, you are an inspiration or even define the word in a way. I served in the US Navy from 1990 to 1995 and was a Craft Mech on the LCAC out of Camp Pendleton. I worked with the Force Recon and Seal Teams throughout my career. I always like those guys because they made me feel like I was part of something big and important and our focus is paramount. Being in the amphib Navy I obviously served with many Marine types as well. It is the soldiers like the special forces and even basic Marines that make us Squids motivated. It is people like you and your pods that make me feel safe that we are still the top military in the world. It has never been the tech for me. It is the type of people that are serving that show me we are above the rest. Our military men and women are the best and it is not only because of our beliefs on how to engage the enemy but also because of the way we all care for each other. I heard a story on Boardwalk Empire where a guy is offered to visit Heaven and Hell. He goes to hell first and he see everyone seated at an endless top notch restaurant where all the food is there on the table for them. They can't eat it though because the spoons are too long for them to put the food in their mouth. Then he goes to Heaven and everything is the same with all the awesome food and everyone had the long spoons but they were all feeding each other so they were all content. This is how I compare our military to others. We work together for the good of everyone even our enemy.
You’d think you could just throw the spoons away and eat the food with your hands. Darn logic!

Getting in Jiujitsu, Muay Thai over 2 in a half years ago and getting in the gym over 5 years and change the diet is the best thing I could have ever done, jocko has been a big influence on me ever since I started watching him after our brown belt coach told me about jocko and knows him personally. Ever since I’ve started watching his podcast I’ve watched just about every one.

I listen constantly to Jocko guests and Echo. This particular discussion is tremendous! One thing in my heart is using everything discussed because we must be prepared. One other thing is and must be listening to the Holy Spirit if one is a Christian and have the tools of The Word in discernment in a situation. Each case I encountered during ministry with people there are times when you need to listen split second for divine help to discern the individual you are dealing with needs extraordinary assistance and/or the power we are about to defend ourselves with.

That was one thing I always thought about the SEALs… if you don’t make it… you’re stuck in the Navy basically doing the opposite of combat arms
Yup, and they can make it very hard for one to go back and try again.
Guys have taken their own lives as a result of wanting to go back, but getting screwed out of the chance to, & getting stuck in other jobs/commands for years that they desperately didn’t want to be in.
@@internet_internet I bet man, I mean I saw dudes who went in open contract to the Marine Corps asking ONLY to not be supply/admin… and you probably can guess the rest of the story… amplify that and I imagine that’s about what it’s like being stuck in the fleet wanting to go in the SEALS
