One of my favorite songs from the master Miles Davis. You know the first time I heard this song was at a rowing regatta over here in New Zealand. In the mainland i.e. South Island at Lake Hayes, a beautiful lake located in between Queenstown and Arrowtown in Central Otago, the province was in history mega for gold mining. Anyhow I was watching the racing action on the lake and as I am a hemipelvectomy amputee [complete left leg amputated as high up as hip and pelvis - the highest lower limb amputation due to an horrific motorcycle accident I had in 1990 when i was 26] I move a little slower than able-bodied people. As I walked well hopped on my crutches past this vehicle I heard some music over the sound system...a little bit of trumpet...but what really captured me was the timely sounds repeating 0:080:100:150:210:260:300:360:42 and the repetition got we swinging...the beat, the rhythm of the song got me humming, and watching the rowing crews racing, it was just a magic moment I'll never forget. I had to ask someone in the vehicle if they could inform me who was playing over the sound system and I was informed 'Miles Davis'...'Doo Bop' album...so when I got back home I just had to buy the CD.
Funk brother Miles Davis speaks to us from beyond. What could the unreleased Rubberband sessions, and the uncompleted other half of this album, have done for nascent hip hop of the time in terms of main stream acceptance. Love this trumpet solo!
"Now I’m not 100 percent sure, but I think that ‘High Speed Chase’ had come from those Rubberband sessions with Prince. You would never get to know that, because the horn part was given to me as an a cappella track and a new song was built around it. But there’s only one Vault, and that’s the one at Paisley Park." Is it possible for intelligent music to be more exciting than anything Miles hasn't already done? To answer this question, consider Tim Hagans' Animation/Imagination and Miles' (Palle Mikkelborg's) Aura (Orange, Red, Yellow). Please keep trying, my fellow jazz composers! That's too tall a mountain for me!
HOLY FUCK! WHAT THE FUCK. THIS IS SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!! OOPOH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LITERALLY THE FIRST 3 SECONDS AND I WAS INSTANTLY BLOWN AWAY!!!! AHGAHGAHGAHAGHAGHAGHAGHAGHAGHAGHAGHAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Nice stuff altogether
To me it sounds like they used a sped up sample of Donald Byrd's "Street Lady" on this track.
You're absolutely right, cat! Never heard the Byrd composition before, but it's just like you say.
Larry Mizell is credited as a writer so it would seem you are right!
