Nice job! You can easily tell, this was the most accurate gun in American civil war.

Awesome, what kind of lathe is that in the back ground?

It's a Summit lathe. American made with foreign parts. It's a good lathe. Not the best but still a good lathe

It is the one from SF. It is the best of the two. I am in Oregon. A field carriage can go for 7 to 14 thousand. Are you thinking of a number 1 field carriage or the original Whitworth carriage?. Would the gun be for personal use or for Fort Fisher? If you were going to use it for something to do with Fort Fischer I would make you a great deal. I would love to see the gun go to someplace like that.

This is contemplated for our interpretive program at Fort Fisher State Historic Site. We currently own and fire a full scale 1857 model bronze Napoleon and a rifled and banded 32 pounder mounted in a reconstructed battery. Everybody loves artillery! Based on your videos sounds like a No 1 carriage would be okay but I don't even know how the original Whitworth carriages differ. We would also need implements, sights, etc but could probably get them elsewhere. We have over 600,000 visitors every year so make me a deal I can't refuse!

Paul Laird Wow that would be great!! Do you know that it does NOT have the same style of rifling as the originals? All the original Whitworths I have seen have been on #1 field carriages. I have read that the Whitworth carriages were not well recieved by the military and often replaced. I would love to build a Whitworth carriage but it would cost a fortune. They are windage adjustable with tons of one of a kind hand forged parts. Do you know how we can talk on the phone without posting a number on youtube?

Is this your original or the one from SF? Hate to show my ignorance, but where are you located? I have seen your videos. The Whitworth is absolutely beautiful. I am director for the Friends of Fort Fisher in NC and the Whitworth was the favored gun at the Fort for keeping the Federal fleet off-shore to allow blockade runners to slip into the Cape Fear River and offload materials in Wilmington for transport to Lee's army in Virginia. Got any rough idea how much a field carriage for the tube would cost?
