      Your listings shows up in search because Etsy is giving priority to items that are closest to you and from shops you already visited (yes, your own shop is included in that). That doesn't mean the tags made a difference, especially since it takes several days for the listing ranking to update after a change.

    Thanks so much Starla. I think that is why I get so frustrated when doing research with erank because 99% of the words I need to use show that they have low search, high competition, or they are unknown. If we depended on erank too much, we would lose out on lots and lots of keywords that could get us those sales. I think erank is great for trying to figure out your niche or trends, but when it comes to title and tags, it's just not a good source to use since it will show that nobody searches for it when obviously people do cause other sellers will sell those exact products or themes. I think it's best to call your products exactly what they are then trying to depend on erank too much. Erank only seems to work well when it comes generalized items than actual themes, colors, or styles. Thanks again for this educational video. Your shirt is so adorable. 😘

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  2 месяца назад

      eRank is a compass, not a map. It is absolutely an essential tool though because without it, you're literally throwing spaghetti at the wall in order to see what sticks. It's the difference between testing someone's temperature with the back of your hand, vs using a thermometer.
      Data is never inaccurate so long as it is true. It can only become MORE accurate the more it is quantified. Thankfully at eRank, our datasets are massive. And since keywords stack, you can take multiple high competition keywords, combine them together, and rank for combines versions of those keywords through both exact matching, as well as broad matching.
      Remember: What gets measured gets managed! :)

    • @vickieclark5931
      @vickieclark5931 2 месяца назад

      @@StarlaMoore That's true. But like for instance, if I put the word "snowman" into the erank search, it shows over 3000 searches. But all of the other searches on that page with snowman has much less searches or no searches because they are too specific. If I put the keyword "snowman wall art" in erank it shows that it is unknown. So it is definitely not a keyword that I would rank for, but I still want to call it that in my title because that is what it is. And people on etsy do sell snowman wall art and other snowman decor. That's what drives me crazy when it comes to erank is that the only keywords that really show good search are very vague keywords. So, it's really hard to know if your product will sell until you make that design or handmade item and list it. You just know people like snowmen, so you try to make products with snowmen even if the snowman + the name of the exact product does not bring up anything good in the erank search. I think that is what has always confused me about erank is that it's great at helping you figure out your niche, but when it comes to specific designs or products in that niche, your kind of on your own and taking a guess at if it will sell or not. But the only way to know for sure it by using a generalize search that does well, and use it within your niche, which is the way you have to do it when it comes to trends.

      There's really no answer to this question because it's all about quality of the keywords, demand (which will change month to month), and how those keywords perform in your shop. SEO is a science experiment. There are very few solid "must abide-by" rules. Instead, treat each listing like an active science experiment. For exact match phrases, I'd aim for the terms that are absolutely amazing. The terms with the highest searches vs low competition. These are ultimately your best keywords, so when possible, try to exact match them.

  • @juliamascardo638

    I'm paranoid about avoiding trademarked terms in titles, tags, descriptions, etc. (which I think is a good paranoia, right?). So let's say I avoid putting a trademarked term directly in a tag, but by broad matching, Etsy manages to put the tags together in such a way that it forms a trademarked term. Will Etsy ding me because *they* created a trademarked term result through broad maching that I've avoided using? Especially if it is an accidental combination that has zero to do with the actual trademarked thing?

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  2 месяца назад +2

      Etsy isn't the one who will ding you. Listings can only be hot for IP infringement if the original IP owner reports you directly. If the listing has nothing to do with the original IP and doesn't have an exact match in the tags/title that the IP owner will recognize as their own, you won't be dinged. I cover this in the video linked below and I've linked the exact time stamp where the topic is discussed: ruclips.net/video/qURYeZYhHM8/видео.htmlsi=litxGUMf1hUrCloA&t=728

      All your keywords from your title should be in your tags. However, not all your tags will necessary be in your title.

    Thank you so much dear Starla! I just use your strategy for only 4 listings and try to find it by myself through the search and everything worked!
    I’m so excited to level up my seo

    What relationship do tags have with the title? Should I repeat the words in the title?

      All your keywords in your titles should be in your tags but not all your tags are necessarily in your title.

    For some reason, this seems "wrong" but also makes sense. 😬

      It does feel wrong. 😂 But Etsy's algorithm is insanely smart!

      Because it's in Etsy's ultimate guide to search. I never said it was a new strategy, friend. It's literally in Etsy's best practices. If you’re going to be a lawyer, you must speak in congruence with the law.
      If you’re going to be a doctor, you must practice medicine in accordance to current practices.
      And as an Etsy coach, I would be insane to teach anything less than what Etsy specifically states is best practice for their platform. Especially when it comes to SEO. 🙃
      I don't "make up strategies" for the sake of views. I explain exactly what you should be doing to succeed.
