1:05:24 is just good advice in general regardless of being a college athlete. I starkly remember having absolutely awful days troubleshooting electronics design in the lab for my engineering program; you have to wake up the next day and get back to it - have a short memory. It’s necessary for being a writer, engineer, football player, mechanic, doctor, or whatever someone ends up doing. Moving past the hard days, learning from mistakes, and maintaining resiliency is a crucial part of life, as much as it sucks in the moment going through it.

Is there value in a first-round-drafted prospect's multiple positions that dissolves after the draft? Can a team not have a plan for Cooper Dejean as he is drafted because he offers them the freedom to approach the remaining draft with a more flexible approach? then as the draft ends his role on the team and the plan for his development is defined.

  • @benjiman7259

Matt Bowen cares so much for the success and development of young athletes that it makes mainstream discussion of NIL seem soulless and exploitative in comparison.
It’s not even his expressed perspective per se, but he exudes an aura of compassion that can only come from being deeply, personally invested -in a manner that makes obvious that most people plainly aren’t.

A lot of this also has to do with positional ranking
if BPA is close then you take the most valuable position.
A DE like verse who might be the 30th best DE in the NFL is more valuable than JPJ who may become the best center in the game.
one can ask if the 30th best DE is better than the 10th best WR like odonze? some would say yes.

“The bama game stood out to me because it was the most underwhelming game ever and he did the bare minimum necessary to win.” Never has a draft product been congratulated for being ordinary. I’m still amazed at how the nfl world has convinced themselves that JJ is a 1st round pick, because sometimes on 3rd down he didn’t mess up. That’s pretty much what Bowen just said.
He doesn’t have any elite traits. His floor is lower than Mac Jones. He’s not talented enough to compete with Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, love, hurts Herbert, stroud and burrow. He’s just not. It’s not physically capable of being one of them.
So you have to hope he turns into Peyton or Brady to be a top qb. You have to assume he’s gonna be that level of cerebral qb.
But there’s absolutely not reason to believe that. He does not have an elite processor, he has never been given full control over an offense, his mechanics aren’t consistent, and he’s not as accurate as Williams, Daniels, Nix, or penix!!!
Why is he a 1st round pick?????

Why is everyone so friggin enamored with McCarthy to the Vikings with KO, what in the history of the last 2 seasons would tell you that JJ will succeed in Minnesota. Cousins with that offense did what? In my opinion the best spot for McCarthy is the Giants under Daboll who is a coach that has proven his abilities when it comes to developing QBs. In NJ Mcarthy will sit and learn, with little pressure to start and develop. To be honest, the same goes for Maye.

    JJ is Mitch Trubisky 2.0.
thats not a knock but thats who he is talent wise. He is a clean cut nice guy with good talent, just like mitch. they both have better than average arms, good size and and can move. teams fell in love with both dudes and they rocketed up draft boards.

is JJ really the best between the ears or is all that a bunch of hype? caleb is 100X smarter than JJ and players like penix and nix have proven to be better with numbers.
I like JJ - he reminds me of mitch T and matt ryan type but you are really really projecting with him. he'd be a great 20-30 type pick, same and nix and penix.

Any opinion on JJ McCarthy that doesn't end with "ultimately the number of things he wasn't asked to do and when he wasn't asked to do them show you why he won't be successful as a pro" really shouldn't be trusted. If anyone trades up for him it'll set their franchise back 5+ seasons. McCarthy is the most likely reason the Vikings will lose Jefferson.
