    Hi Guys. Love your review format. I am age 66, 5'8" and about 190. I have been skiing on older Atomic Beta Carvers that are 180 and about 62 mm under foot. My son has Bent Chetler 100's. He and all the ski techs are telling me I need to update. Funny that on Hard pack or groomers he wants to borrow my skis because he can hold an edge way better. :).
    I am shopping for some new boards. I am thinking in the 80's. The candidates are Nordica Enforcer 88/179 ( but I am seeing comments about them being VERY HEAVY), or Maverick 88 TI /175, or Kanjo 84/175, or maybe even the Fisher Ranger 92/178. I mostly ski on piste, and love long GS turns but also trying to improve short turn carving the way Jeff & Bob do in the videos. I jump into some fresh power on the side of the runs in the mornings, and occasionally chase my son into the trees. I say I am giving up moguls, but still am drawn to them. Would love to have your thoughts. Thank you very kindly.

      Hello! I wouldn't worry too much about the weight of an Enforcer 88. It's not going to feel particularly heavy to you considering what you're skiing on right now. I actually think the Enforcer 88 or Maverick 88 would be the best choices for you. Between the two, I find the Enforcer 88 to be a better carving ski, while the Maverick 88 is quicker and better in the bumps and trees. Focus on which of those things you value more and let that guide your decision. I'm 100% certain you would have fun on either ski, just a matter of which matches what you enjoy more.

    Such a good summary! Thanks Jeff. I have found them to be the perfect hard snow ski.. smooth being the primary adjective.. and they don’t get hooked up when it’s deeper but they do punch through being 88 under foot. Great dampening but still very responsive without being unforgiving. I’m 188/200lb advanced and ski the 186. Keep up the good work and appreciate the service. Cheers! AndrewL

    Based on your reco, I picked up a pair of these and really love 'em... even with just two days on the ski!. I was looking for something a little more versatile and a little less demanding than my M5 Mantras - and quicker edge to edge. They're that and more. Great at short radius turns as expected, but they also transition easily to bigger turns at higher speeds. They carve incredibly well, but I've also noticed I can allow a little edge release and they're happy to behave just fine with that lazier approach. No doubt the Mantras are still the better option for softer/chunkier conditions or full-on eye-watering bomber runs with the boys, but for anything else, I'm gonna probably be on the 88's! Thanks for providing the best ski reviews in the business!

    Found these skis to be a brilliant one ski quiver for the Alps. Sure I couldn't go quite as fast as my friends with piste skis on the icy slopes in the morning, but by mid afternoon I was having twice the amount of fun as the snow got a little softer.

    How do I choose between 94 and 88? Im 5'9" 190 lbs advanced - mostly ski on the east coast but I do west coast trips. So the question is, should I get the 88 and enjoy the icy groomed east coast vibes all the time and when i go out west try to float as much as I can.,,, or no, get the 94s, theyre still gonna be great on the east coast, and when I take them out west, they are more versatile

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 года назад +3

      Hello! I think considering your position and where you're going to ski, I think 94 is the way to go. 94 is absolutely not too wide for groomers, even here on the east. We have tested it thoroughly on firm eastern conditions and it holds up just fine. Considering you're going to use it out west too, I think the 94 makes more sense. You're gaining some valuable soft snow performance in the 94, and realistically the only thing you're losing is some edge to edge quickness on firm snow, but you're not losing much. The 94 is still very responsive. I'm going to leave my reply on your other comments too for others to see.

    Loving these reviews, thank you so much!
    Sort of in debate as what to choose from you guys.
    I'm 175cm tall and weigh 76kg. I'd concider my self upper advanced.
    I Ski the alps mostly.
    I've owned a Brahma 88 (180cm) and skied it aggresively in all terrain for 5 years. It's always felt a bit too long I guess.
    I own a Kore 105 for freeriding which I love.
    My Brahmas are beat up and I need a replacement
    I'm concidering either the Enforcer 88, Kendo 88, Brahma 88 and even have looked at the Kanjo 84.
    If you were to choose, what would you go for and in what length?
    Thanks!

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 года назад

      Hi Jakob! I feel like it would be fun to go with either the Enforcer 88 or Kendo 88, simply because you've already owned the Brahma and it's fun to switch things up. I also find that both of those ski a little shorter than the Brahma. I would go Enforcer 179 or Kendo 177 and I expect you'd find either one is a little easier to ski than your 180 cm Brahma 88. Enforcers will feel more responsive on how they come across the fall line in a carve, Kendos allow for more variety in turn shapes, at least it's easier to manipulate the ski into different style and radius turns.

    I need some help. Hi I love your channel and thanks for doing these great reviews! I’m trying to decide on a new pair of skis for the coming season. I’m finally able to return to skiing and ski patrol in Wisconsin (lots of front side groomers and ice). after being away for about 20 years with all my kids activities. I’m 6 feet 230 pounds, was an advanced to expert skier and now I’m getting used to the new shape skis. I’m trying to decide between kendo 88, K2 89ti Mindbender, Nordica Enforcer 88 and Kore 87. Being a “new skier” I’m wondering if some of them might be too unforgiving?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 года назад +1

      Hi Mark!
      Something that's often not talked about enough in ski performance is that for a heavier skier, a lot of the more "advanced" skis can be a great choice, even for a beginner or intermediate. The same forces an expert skier is putting on their skis is somewhat replicated by just being a heavier skier. So, interestingly, the only ski I would rule out from your list is the Kore 87, as at your weight, that ski might feel a little unstable or twitchy. Enforcer 88 and Mindbender 89Ti both feel like a great choice to me. Slightly more rocker in both of those than the Kendo, which you should appreciate and will make the skis a little more forgiving for you. Hope that helps!

    Hi Jeff, well done review! I'm coming from the Nordica Fire Arrow 84 EDT EVO, which has been a 2015 or 2016 Nordica all mountain Ski. I've been very satisfied with the Fire Arrow as it fits pretty much your description of the Enforcer 88. I'm 60y old, would consider myself as rather fit and experienced skier. But at the same time I'm looking for a ski that will be stable on higher paces and won't wear me out to much through the day. I'm 5 foot 11 and skied the Fire Arrow in 168. Here are my questions: is there much of a difference between the Fire Arrow 84 and the Enforcer 88? A review in Germany recommended skiing the Enforcer longer than usual because of its rocker. Would you agree? Many thanks in advance for your support.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 года назад +1

      Hi Thomas! Overall, the Enforcer 88 is an improvement over the Fire Arrow. It's more maneuverable and more versatile off-piste, while retaining similar, if not improved, performance on firm snow. I agree with that assessment of length choice. In the Enforcer 88, given its rocker profile, you'll want to at least go with the 172 cm length. I'm a similar height and actually prefer the 179 cm in the Enforcer 88, but you don't need to go that long if you prefer sticking closer to the 170 cm range. In general, you're going to be very impressed with the Enforcer 88, I can almost guarantee that. Nordica is making some fantastic skis right now and even as good as the Fire Arrow is, their newer skis are noticeably better across the board. Hope that helps!

    Awesome review, as always, thanks Jeff. I've been thinking about upgrading my beginner skis from Blizzard Quattro 72mm 160cm to these Nordica Enforcer 88s. I'm just not sure what length should I go with. This is my second season, I'm 5'10'' 150lb, ski in East Coast mostly on firm and loose granular groomers. I consider myself an intermediate skier, love doing short turns and getting to carving. Which length would you recommend, 165cm? 172cm? or 179cm? Thank you!!

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  Год назад

      I'd say the 172 is the way to go. You don't need to go too long given the power of the ski, and I think you'll be leaving some performance on the table if you go down to 165. have fun!

    Thank you for your previous recommendation. I guess my best option is probably the K2 Mindbender 89ti 2023. So now, what size (182 or 188)? I'm a returning skier, re-starting ski patrol in the midwest (icy, cold). I don't consider myself an aggressive skier, but I like the "playfulness" of the K2 based on the video reviews for it. I'm currently 60 years old, 6 foot zero, working to get to 230lbs - hoping being active during winter will help. So for Size...Thoughts?

      I'd go with the 182 in that ski. I'm 6/2 225 and didn't find that they were too short. I liked the turn radius in that length as well--very grippy and active. Have fun!

    It's the perfect groomer+ ski for the East Coast. If I'm just out for early runs on groomers, I will take my SL or GS skis - so will my partner & daughter. If we're going to spend a longer day, and/or there's extra snow around, I load the car up with my 179s, my expert/lady has a set of 172s and my race/daughter has the 165s. Powerful lady skiers, with race backgrounds, can ski them as well. It makes me secretly smile in line sometimes when my ladies get nods of approval wearing their race boots & Enforcers. It takes me a few runs to get used to the more centered skiing position required for these Enforcers versus SL or GS skis. Our family loves them because they hold on icy steeps, and they bomb through crud - my expert lady also loves them in the moguls - I prefer narrower skis for our icy moguls.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 года назад

      Perfect assessment, Paul! I agree 100%. Quick early runs, race skis are great. Out there longer? There's a huge benefit to having the width and rocker profile of the Enforcers and they still can rip turns too. Such great skis.

    I have been skiing the Nordica Enforcer 100 in the 185 cm length for the past two years. I find this length perfect. I’m going to buy a pair of Nordica Enforcer 88s for firm snow days. I’m 5’11” , 192 lbs. expert skier, skiing primarily in the Lake Tahoe area. Is the 186 cm Enforcer 88 a good size choice or does going down a size to 179 make sense. Some of the on line ski length charts suggest 179cm for the Enforcer 88 and others suggest 186cm. What are your thoughts.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  3 года назад

      I would go 186 cm if I were you. I'm basically just thinking about myself and the size I like. I'm a good 30-40 lbs lighter than you and prefer the 179 cm. If I had a larger frame, I would almost definitely want to go to the 186. Also, the fact that you think 185 in the Enforcer 100 is perfect suggests 179 would feel short in the 88. Less material, narrower, so I don't think going shorter too is the right decision.

    Thanks for quick response Jeff. I am getting Stance 90 in 176 from you guys this week. How does that fit with Enforcer and Maverick? 5'8" strong intermediate to advanced skier from east. Do you think I should have gone with 168?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 года назад +1

      Hey Jay! I suppose you got one quick reply and one longer reply... huh? You'll be totally fine on the 176 at your size. Not worried about that whatsoever. The Stance 90 is a cool ski as it blends playfulness and maneuverability (more rocker than some) with good vibration damping and stability (lots of metal). It's like Enforcer construction with Maverick maneuverability.

    Thanks jeff. Awesome reviews as always. Im coming off a 2019 volkl kendo in 170 length, im
    About 5’6 175lbs on a good day and would consider myself intermediate i think, i just feel like the kendos rip big slalom turns and blazing fast but is very fatiguing on the legs and quite more effort needed when you do to quick tight turns in chop. I was looking to get the enforcer 88 for a litte bit more forgiveness but can still carve when you want to, i do have a rustler 9 as my other ski when i feel just like playing around. What are your thought on the enforcer 88? Or mayne just the 2021 kendo’s maybe? Thanks

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 года назад +2

      Hey James! My first instinct was yes, Enforcer 88 would be great, but the fact you already own the Rustler 9 threw me for somewhat of a loop. To clarify so I understand completely, would you say the Rustler doesn't quite have the carving performance you're looking for? I ask because in a lot of ways it feels like it matches that description (can carve but with some forgiveness). That said, I do think the Enforcer 88 carves better and I do think it's more forgiving than the Kendo, so if you're looking to just get a little closer to Rustler performance with these new skis, but better carving, then year, I think that would be an excellent choice. Does that make sense to you?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 года назад +1

      Every time I get on the 82, I expect to like it a bit more, but it ends up kind of going the other way. For the width/shape, I want it to be more like a front side ski like a Deacon 84, but it ends up being a bit too planky. Enforcer 88 is stiff and carves great, while remaining way more versatile and well-rounded in off-piste conditions and terrain versus the Brahma 82. If I'm getting on a low-80's ski, I want a front side ski, not a narrow all-mountain ski, that's kind of how I see it these days.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  10 месяцев назад +1

      It's different enough--Enforcer has more rocker and taper than the older Brahma, so you are getting more versatility in the Enforcer. The Nordica isn't quite as stiff or burly but still has a very high-performance ceiling.

      Depends what you're looking for. Enforcer 88s will be stronger on firm snow, quicker edge to edge, and a better carving ski. Ranger 102 is more playful, easier in off-piste terrain and softer snow conditions, and has more of a twin tip, rockered shape. Hope that helps!

      I think 179. I'm 188cm and am on the 186 and like it, but you might prefer the shorter arc of the 179. They're still quite stable and strong, so you don't have to size up to access power. It's more about preference than stats, though, so make sure what you want comes before any type of formulaic equation to find the perfect size. Have fun, and thanks for the compliments!

    I currently ski 172cm Navigator 85 and I am 180cm, 85kg myself. I am looking for something more stable and powerful at higher speeds but don't want a long ski to ruin the experience at the end of the day when conditions get very technical. Would going 172cm in Enforcer 88 make sense more than 179 in this case, given my capabilities (strong intermediate or lower advanced) and size? I would think that 172cm offers me more versatility without losing stability or power. Or maybe there is something else that comes to your mind that would be a good stepup from Navi85 - something with more stability, good carving and perhaps a bit more versatile (although I don't find nothing wrong with Navi versatility)? Ski mostly groomers / on trail and technical terrain only when I have to.

      The Bonafide holds really well on ice, but is quite a handful--the thing really wants to run. If you go Enforcer 88, you get more approachability and better control at speed while still retaining proper edge grip and excellent energy out of the tail. Bonafide is not quite as energetic.

      That said, I wouldn't worry too much if I were you. We've had some heavy testers on the Black Crows Camox and no one has had any major issues with stability. Not as powerful as a ski like the Enforcer 88, but there's still some good stability in the Camox. Bob, who is in a lot of our videos, has tested the Camox plenty of times and really likes it. Hey Jay! When I first read your comment, my reaction was "nothing," and there's some truth to that. A lot of truth, actually. Forgiveness and edge grip are essentially antonyms when talking about a ski's performance. Increase one, you're going to decrease the other. That said, Bob and I ended up having a relatively long chat about your comment, and the one ski that came to mind is the Maverick 88 Ti from Atomic. Now, I still think the Enforcer 88 has more edge grip, but the Maverick is pretty darn close, and it is lighter and more forgiving. So, if I had to point you to a certain ski, it would be that one.

    These vs Atomic Maverick 88 ti?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 года назад

      Mavericks are much lighter, which makes them feel more maneuverable and quicker, especially in trees, bumps, and other off-piste scenarios. The Enforcer, on the other hand, is heavier and more powerful. Holds an edge better at high speeds and in general is the superior carving ski, but you lose some versatility and quickness.

    Vs Fischer Pro Mtn Ti 80?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  Год назад +1

      The Fischer has decidedly more of a front side shape to it than the more rounded and versatile Enforcer 88. If you're keeping it more on-trail, then something narrower like the Fischer makes a lot of sense, but if you're looking for the next level of all-mountain capabilities, then Enforcer 88 is the proper ski for the job without sacrificing fantastic on-trail carving.
