Agreed. I kinda get why the locals look down on the yuppie transplants from Florida...there's a lot of them here. But there's also a lot of really creative nice people moving here. I actually am typing this in my brand spanking new apartment in Asheville. I moved here a whopping 5 days ago. While I love this city...it's kind of lonely picking up and moving to a new place. I'm sick of lounging around my apartment. Kind of feeling like a stranger where I live. But I still love it here. :)

I'm an Asheville native, by the end of November the streets are covered with snow, the Blue Ridge Parkwayis shut down for the winter. Daily high temperature is around 20 F while nightly lows are around 0 F.. If you plan on driving you will need 4WD or chains. Most of the time instead of plowing the snow the city just sets a 6PM-6AM curfew. Hope that helps.

I have heard that the reason why Asheville is called the Happiest Place on Earth is because the mountains contain millions and millions of tons of pure quartz crystal inbedded in them. Those mountains are some of the oldest mountains (dating back about 4 million years in the making) and the energy is tremendous - people are creative - people are spiritual - due to the quartz crystal energy pulsating throughout the land and into the hearts and souls of people. I plan on going soon!

My hometown - now why couldn't it have been like this when I lived there, Asheville born, but raised out on the road playing music, sinking my teeth onto that "diversity' that was ever ellusive then. I left wishing that A'ville could have more accepting of people and lifestyles that weren't the "norm." Now, I make my home in the Bay Area of California. I'm a nurse as my day job and I play music on the weekends. I miss my Mom, Dad, brother and sister in law a lot. But I'm very happy.

Dear Asheville musicians, residents, service industry workers and lovers of our community... Are you ready for a landmark building to become yet another hotel? Are you sick of it? Remember when Asheville was branded as "beer city" with the DUIs and alcoholism in the shadows? You got sick of it. Now musicians are the demographic depended on to clean up the image of Asheville. The Asheville City Council allotted ZERO dollars funding the arts. Musicians are one of the main attractions to clean up Asheville's image. We are on the bottom rung of this hierarchy and we are the poster faces for a new more attractive, healthy, vibrant and fun city.
Let's talk about POWER. Divided - we get used, we fulfill the purpose, we are then forgotten. We are the FOUNDATION upon which this new city image is being built. We are the faces promoting tourism, bringing in money - and lots of it. Any of us getting rich yet? In turn more hotels are being built. We are getting priced out of town. Again, ZERO dollars were allotted for the arts by the 2019 Asheville city council.
UNITED - we can all stop this wheel from rolling over us. We can be the leverage that locals are looking for to change these trends. We can unite our power. It's a possibility - and I bet it'll get their immediate attention. Just the threat of such a thing would move the city council to pay attention to its constituency. I bet we can convince this city council that enough is enough and stop the constant building of hotels and concern for only tourists and start turning their attention to caring for the folks who live here.
    ARE YOU WITH ME?
    Say it together now..... #ashevillemusiciansunion
Maybe we can be even stronger if we team up with the service industry folks running the venues, bars, working in hotels. Musicians are most often working in a service industry capacity too. Imagine if all of us banded together in a town putting the weight of tourism in our backs.
    Here's the bigger idea:
    #ASHEVILLESERVICEINDUSTRYUNION
An Asheville Service Industry Union including musicians means: Bargaining power, health care, legal representation, affordable housing, retirement options, community services.
That's the idea I've been thinking about and I think this idea is a novel approach to bringing power to the people of Asheville.
    ARE YOU WITH ME?
If you are - like and share this post. Get this idea going around.
    ❤️Asheville❤️
Those who voted "yes" on turning the Flat Iron Building into a hotel also displacing many small businesses: Mayor Esther Manheimer, Vice Mayor Gwen Wisler and council members Vijay Kapoor and Julie Mayfield.

Asheville is a great city with all manner of people and a mostly live nd let live attitude. BUT, because of NIMBYism over road construction, the population is too great for the roads. Be prepared to sit in traffic.

    • @exploreasheville
      @exploreasheville  6 лет назад

Hi, Joseph. There is no doubt there can be an increased volume of cars on the roads during our peak visitation times of the years. But, Asheville still experiences far less traffic than many cities in the region. We recommend visitors plan to travel to high traffic areas on weekdays or earlier on in the day to avoid traffic during the rush hour (which nearly any city of similar size experiences). Thank you for your kind words about Asheville and the people who call Asheville home.

Funny how the whole video screams diversity and I don't see that at all. Miguel Miquel What you say may be true BUT the video DOES NOT indicate that. The video is a poor representation if, in fact, this place is as diverse as you and it claim. I was sent here to this video by a white person who knows I'm looking to relocate and she, too, spouted about the diversity. Again. I DON'T see it in this video. I'd have to take a look at it in person. Until then, I totally agree with andrew dangerly Oh, and please don't come back at me screaming.
