Excellent episode... as usual. I’m not interested in everything you cover but you make it sooo watchable that I learn stuff I never knew I wanted to 😉 And Ruth, you are the perfect ‘anchor’ for this’d show. So smiley and happy and as cute as a button. Keep up the great work. Happy New Year 🥳
Oh my word. The lunar tree project is so tantalising, so frustrating but great to see the hope and positivity of Marcus to grab this shot. Keep at it Marcus it will happen 😀
He's been trying to get that shot for ages. I was pleasantly surprised at how much of the moon and tree were drawn out of the fog by the edit software, too.
The thing about pixel shift isn't to create a larger resolution image, but to to capture full RGB values for each and every pixel. The result is better color rendering (which I preferred in this test over the 5DSR), and virtually zero noise. It's not going to magically add extra pixels and details. It's also meant for static subjects, but some photo editors can let you selectively combine the images. That would let you get the benefit of pixel shift on the land, but only use a single frame for the water movement. It looks like the point of that test was to compare details at ridiculous crop levels. That's good for the wow factor test result, but not practical in the real world. If I'm planning to make a final image zoomed in that much, I'll do it optically with a longer lens. When shooting high end gear, tests like this are splitting some very fine hairs. At this point, ergonomics, battery life, noise control, dynamic range, etc. are more important than how good the image looks cropped in far beyond what normal user would do.
Marcus, the harder the shot, the greater the satisfaction. We all know you will get it, and it will be fantastic !!! Regards from Argentina for the whole team. Great show.
Most would have given up at first attempt. Good on you Marcus. Roll on next month! As usual, the guys and gal show the level of professionalism it takes to get where they are
Thanks for giving the Pentax K-1 a try. That test was about as fair as I could imagine. Despite the results, I won't be ditching my K-1. Hopefully I'll get to try it out from that same vantage point before too long. Thanks for the videography feature as well.
Another great show as usual guy's. I was absolutely gutted for Marcus no being able to get the Luner Tree shot due to the mist. I am looking forward to seeing the next show as i am thinking of buying some trypod spikes.
I really can't wait to see that moon shot. Been watching you trying to get it for as long as this project came up on these videos, totally know the feeling of that determination, hope, frustration, and countless hours and miles spent to get that one shot. I've been doing the same with sunset behind the wind turbines, it's much easier in my case, however, the weather is just never in my favour. You'll get it sooner or later, best luck.
again wonderful outtakes from all of you. it makes all so simply and shows we all are just humans. with your new Face in the Team i first thought, wow harry got a hair cute and a good shave. haha
Great show as always, good to see the team are always coming up with new ideas for content. I like Marcus’s determination to make sure mission possible doesn’t become mission impossible.
Another really good episode. I'm looking forward to the comparison with the Sony A7R IV with its 61mp sensor. On paper it should win with that but it can also pixel shift, providing images of 240mp! Additionally, I have a similar Mission: Possible as I am going to photograph the moon behind a local TV transmitter on Tuesday evening as it is due to line up perfectly with a clear sky. Things could change though.
Many thanks for Another brilliant show, Hey Nick, try out the focus stack with your macro lens on your R5, well worth the time getting to grips with it, and would make another feature
Great first show of the year!. I was very excited about the lunar Mission Possible as I remember watching the first part. Congratulations Marcus for keeping your cool in the middle of the fog and fingers crossed for the next attempt! I look forward to hearing Harry talking about video shooting. I am not envisaging buying a iPhone very soon but the features look great. I hope Harry would be able to suggest a more affordable mobile option (older iPhone or android?). I would however persevere with my Fuji X-T2 for the moment and hopefully gather plenty of information in the coming series.
I have just come across this Photography channel, it's absolutely brilliant! Great format and presentation and looking forward to future episodes. (Sydney Australia)
The great thing about video is that it can be enormous fun, especially if you can do it as a group. It doesn't have to be some dramatic project. The class I belong to has just done one of me making a fruit salad! Keep up the good work!
What a great team you guys are, such good and varied content to suit all tastes. Looking forward to all that is to come in 2022, thankyou, and a healthy New year to you all.
I love you guys! What another amazing episode. Just came back from a break by the Ocean. Kept thinking about the things you guys have taught me. I was pretty pleased with many of the shots I got this year. Thank you!
So near yet so far with the attempt of the lunar tree, which shows such patients and dedication. Good luck next month, trying to capture such a challenging shot. Thanks for another great show! 😊
What an incredible show y'all produce! I was so exciting watching that moon rise... Marcus you've got to get that shot! Who knew something that would seen so mundane to most would be incredible to those of us who would kill to get that shot! Thank you all for all the great content! And love the video series!
Happy new year to you all. Great episode as always. The Mission Impossible feature is brilliant. I wouldn't be surprised if Marcus goes and cuts the tree own if he doesn't get the shot by this time next year! Love the outakes at the end as well
Pixel shift works but is so incredibly situational it is extremely dubious where as high res works all the time. Sony A7RIV, said it before will say it again. That's the mirrorless high res benchmark.
@@PhotographyOnline Yes, I think product photography in a studio with a sturdy tripod would work. Though I've read that even slight vibrations such as someone walking across a room or a vehicles passing outside can spoil the result. It needs computational photography in built to work well even in the few instances where it's viable. Something ALL the camera manufacturers are years behind on.

As usual great video. One thing though. It seems more and more episodes My ears find it extremely difficult to fight to hear the voices over the background music. This has been going on for a while. I was so bad on this episode and two epi ago or so I actually gave up and moved on. I hope this is not a permanent issue since I love this channel. It is both an education and my favorite entertainment given all of you are so much fun. I have severe tinnitus so I really struggle when background noise of any kind confuses my brain and the human voice becomes frustrating to find in the middle of it all despite my hearing is really not that bad except in the high end. Again thank you so much for such a great channel.

Glad you released the thrilling excitement of the lunar tree with the outtakes at the and. Otherwise i would have problems sleeping this night 😂 hoping that finally you get the perfect picture next month!
Hi Team: Another great show. I really enjoyed all of the segments in today event and I really hope that Marcus is able to bag the image for Mission Possible. Cheers, Keith
10 years ago I used to get involved with the 7D versus the 5D2 argument about which was best. Many people sold the 7D to get the 5D immediately stating night and day epiphanies, but, when challenged they could never back their bold statements up with 2 side by side images to prove it. Then along came the 37 mega pixel A7r. This was the first camera which really did blow all others out of the water, and could be easily seen on small on screen images at any ISO settings. So, the A7r4 will be a very interesting challenger 😎 I have no Sony gear so have no dog in this fight, but Sony have transformed the camera market in the last 10 years. This type of challenge is the best type, no charts, just a straight up IQ punch up 👍
Wonderful show! Happy New Year to the crew and their families! It's heartbreaking about the moon shot and I am happy to see the segment on phone photography. Keep up the great work 👍!
Brilliant show again. Just love Marcus’s project. I loved the image he took whilst there. What a gorgeous scene. BTW, I cannot see the contest post on the Delkin Devices IG page. 🤨. Maybe it is not on yet. 🙁🙁🙁
Hi Chris. They said they were posting it yesterday at 4pm, but seems they forgot. Sorry, but this is out of our control. Please check back later when hopefully it will be there.
Just come across your videos - great stuff! But... I don't know what went wrong with pixel shift in your detail comparison in this video - I'm sure you reported what you experienced, but it doesn't match other tests or my experiences... Duff camera maybe? You can find controlled conditions comparisons online (e.g. using the studio image comparison tool from DPreview) which show quite different results when you select the pixel-shift/hi-res comparisons for the K1. I shoot landscape regularly using pixel shift on a K1 - it always gives a big increase in detail. I also shoot regularly together with both a D850 and a Sony A7R4 photographer and my K1 images stand their own in pixel-peeping comparisons (we've even occasionally compared images taken using the same lens). If there is motion in the image (in your case moving water, though to be honest moving trees/leaves on a windy day can be worse) then you have to be careful and it is best to use the Pentax software to process the file afterwards and not do it in-camera (just like with Sony, which anyway can't process pixel-shifted images in-camera at all). If you're going to compare pixel-shifted images with 'normal' ones then you also really ought to mention the fact that one can happily raise ISO and maintain good quality/detail with pixel-shift whilst comparable higher ISO shots on other cameras start to fall apart (something I often notice in practise, and also clearly visible in DPreview comparison tool).
It's pretty obvious that the team don't understand and couldn't describe accurately what pixel shift does, nor were proficient at processing using this technology. Nevertheless, as you say, the advantages are not resolution and this test, as carried out is a resolution test and no surprise, more megapixels will win.
Loved the video feature, I often struggle with video content on my channel, looks like an iphone may be the way to go, I am sure Marcus will get that shot, loved the viewers images too. Keep up the good work.
I have to admit, the original test shot 40:57 is class. (The shadows need lifting and sharpness on the brow of the hill need correcting) Looking at the photoshopped version, I imagine it will only look cluttered and potentially unbalanced (to the right) if you get the shot you actually visualize. Best of luck with it but by the time the 6 year window closes on the next attempt, I feel you may look back at that test shot and think, ...I did it back then!
It’s all about getting the shot which is previsualised - the one which can’t easily be improved upon. The moon has to be in exactly the right position for the shot to work to it’s potential. There’s no “that’ll do” excuses with this one.
Happy 2022 folks. Hard luck re Lunar moon shoot. Another great show and good luck to Marcus next month 🤞. All the best Phil AKA Keepclickingphotography
There is something I think it's important to note about SD cards that is frequently overlooked. The speed of an SD card is irrelevant if the hardware it is being used in is incapable of taking advantage of the technology and speeds of that card, whether it be the camera or the device that the card is inserted into for either transferring the data from the card or for editing. Those should also be considerations when purchasing an SD card for use in both the camera and the editing device the SD card will be used in.
Hi, thanks for another great show. If you use the augmented reality feature of Photopills whilst on location, you can see exactly where the moon will be in relation to the tree (for any chosen time/date), allowing you to place your tripod in the correct place, hopefully reducing the need for guess work or last minute rushing around. Unfortunately Photopills can't control the weather, maybe that will come in a future upgrade🙂
Hi Bob. We’ve tried that and it’s just not accurate. It seems to have an accuracy of around 2 degrees, which is nowhere near close enough for this shot. I only use such apps for my initial research, then just use first hand knowledge, as there’s no substitute for this.
Excellent as usual. Thanks for using the Pentax K1 mk2...my latest Camera. I was left thinking ..oh that's the review...oh well. I use it with a Pentax 24-70mm f2.8 HD ED SDM WR lens. Purchased with thanks to Ffordes. Gutted that the Moonshot was so close. You'll get it Marcus... :)
Cheers Alistair. There’s nothing much wrong with the K1-II but it was obvious it wasn’t going to be a match for the 5Dsr so there was little point drawing it out. I would steer clear of the pixel shift mode though! Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed the part where we weren’t bashing your camera!
@@PhotographyOnline I have to admit the Pixel Shift isn't a mode I'll be using. I've been a Pentax User since my me-super in 1982. As I've hit a Birthday Milestone I also have a K3 mk3. Just loving it. I usually like Cars, Landscape & Wildlife. K1 for Static Paddock Cars & Landscape. K3 for Track & Wildlife. Thanks for the inspiration look forward to more excellent content. Cheers :)
@@PhotographyOnline, as a long time owner of the K1. Pixel shift is a very handy option to have. It requires certain conditions to get the most out of it. Scenes with movement are not ideal.
Hi guys, great show as always. Any chance as part of your video section you could touch on extracting stills from video footage? I have always wondered if this was feasible in terms of image quality to get that decisive moment . Thanks
Great videos, would you be interested in doing a piece on capturing the Northern Light. I own a Canon T7 2000d, with nifty fifty, 18-55 kit, Sigma 70-300 & manual 200-400 lens. Would appreciate any advice please Tony
Oh, for a large fan when you're photographing that tree. Can you consider putting chapter marks on your video - it would make it much easier for us to navigate to the segments of most interest?
I’m really looking forward to learning from your new video basics series. However, my big question is….where was Harry stood? I love the shape of the pointy island and I’d love to go and photograph it!😁😁🙏🏻
@@PhotographyOnline Ah thanks. I’d dismissed that option on Google maps as it’s long, which you couldn’t tell from the video. Thanks again and keep up the great work!
Great segment on iPhone for video. I had no idea how good iPhone is with video. One question I hope you can answer on the next episode. What is the best way to store your video footage without using up the phones storage or that in the cloud. Thanks for a great show. Jeremy
Excellent episode. The only thing I can criticize is the headline at 12:16 that still says Compact Flash instead of Secure Digital. We've all been there. Video editing is a bear.
Hi. We don't tend to use flash, so it is not an area of expertise for us. The only time when we would consider using flash is in a studio, but we don't do a lot of this kind of work. Thanks for watching though.
@@PhotographyOnline Thanks for that. The only reason I asked is that in your title sequence you have a red squrrel jumping from one branch to another and it looks like a flash went off to capture the shot. Still a great show!
Thanks for trying out the excellent K1 even though it didn't win. Two points though, camera price was not factored into the comparison. Secondly how did you manage to get a Pentax K mount lens for the K1. I thought Sigma had abandoned Pentax long ago.
Hi Peter. Price is not a factor here - we are simply putting attention on image detail. However, both cameras are similarly priced. The Sigma lens was with the camera, but maybe it is old. Thanks for watching.
@@PhotographyOnline You people are really working excellent, congratulations to whole team, specially to your son ( my best wishes for him)- from Karachi, Pakistan.

Glad to hear it was useful John. More to come!
Loved it thanks guys :-)
Our pleasure Ali.
Ruth, I need to know where you get those jackets and beanies from, the colors oh the colors.. need those for my daughters. 😀
Hi Vidyadhar, the purple down jacket is from Rab. The hats come from different places - mostly just high street! (Ruth)
Thanks for putting the the Pentax K1 up against the Canon 5dsr - it's good to know where it sits against the best.
You’re welcome Dean.
Cheers Phil. Thanks for watching.
Hi, there is no photography online post on delkin devices Instagram page. Regards
Check back tomorrow Dave. Sorry, but this is out of our control.
Great episode guys, yet again you don't fail to entertain. Unlucky Marcus on the moon shot.! See you in February.
Cheers Lee. Thanks for watching again.
Another great show as always! Thanks for all you do.
Our pleasure!
@@TheScottab better to have a camera which performs better in all situations then.
Great video as usual... 👏👏👏Happy new year guys... 🧨🧨🧨
Looking forward to enjoy upcoming videos...
Same to you!
Hi guys, great show as always. Any chance as part of your video section you could touch on extracting stills from video footage? I have always wondered if this was feasible in terms of image quality to get that decisive moment . Thanks
Hi Steve. We'll cover this on a future feature. Thanks for the suggestion. All the best.
Great videos, would you be interested in doing a piece on capturing the Northern Light.
I own a Canon T7 2000d, with nifty fifty, 18-55 kit, Sigma 70-300 & manual 200-400 lens.
Would appreciate any advice please
Tony
Hi Tony. We've already done two features about photographing the aurora, so please check these out. Many thanks
Personally, I like the lunar tree shot you DID get. And please keep including the outtakes.
We'll try, but we don't always get good outtakes because we are so professional! (cough)!
Oh, for a large fan when you're photographing that tree.
Can you consider putting chapter marks on your video - it would make it much easier for us to navigate to the segments of most interest?
Hi David. We'll look into it. Thanks for watching.
Brilliant show as always, love how well produced they are!
Thanks for watching Matt.
Thanks for another great show.
You’re welcome Sean
What about the Sony A7RIV? It also has pixel shift and a 61mp sensor. Is there a price limitation?
It’s next on our list to try!
I’m really looking forward to learning from your new video basics series. However, my big question is….where was Harry stood? I love the shape of the pointy island and I’d love to go and photograph it!😁😁🙏🏻
Hi Julian. That island you refer to is Duntulm island which is right in the very north of Skye. Hope this helps.
Jeremy
Hi Jeremy. Good question - which we will try to address at some point. Thanks for watching.
Excellent episode. The only thing I can criticize is the headline at 12:16 that still says Compact Flash instead of Secure Digital. We've all been there. Video editing is a bear.
Yes, we missed that one.
Brilliant as always! Could you, please, tell me what’s the tripod head you’re using? Thank you! 🙏🏻
Hi, the tripod head is a Manfrotto 322RC2. These are no longer made, but you can get them used.
@Photography Online 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I wish you spoke about the Focus Shift problem of the RF 100mm macro (between f3.2 and f9), mainly seen at high magnification
Hi Thomas. We are not aware of any focus shift problem. This was just a first look at the lens, rather than an indpeth review.
Love the show guys. Is there any chance you are going to do a Flash photography series for us flash users?
I really enjoyed the show as always. Thank you. Shame about the impossible shot.
That's okay Alan - it gives us more content for a future show!
Nick’s and editors Fungi pun was in spore taste…🥁
Boom boom!
Awesome, as always. Thanks, guys.
Cheers Mario.
Very nice intro to new year ... see ya in 2 weeks :).
Thanks! You too!
Hi guys, superb show as usual! - Question; when will the Kingjoy A86 be back in stock? - waiting to order!
We’re expecting them this week Roger, but we can’t be sure until they actually arrive.
Rooting for Mission: Possible. Fingers crossed for Marcus. At what focal length do you see the moon that big?
This was 500mm, but ideally you would want 800mm.
@@PhotographyOnline Great.. This gives inspiration and ideas. Thanks!
Keep it up Marcus, you'll get that moon shot.👍
That's the plan!
@@PhotographyOnline You people are really working excellent, congratulations to whole team, specially to your son ( my best wishes for him)- from Karachi, Pakistan.
