Yes, JT is a giant AH (soon to be replaced hopefully along with his gov...), but beyond that, the main couse of housing shortage is government regulations and fees, not shortage of labor, at least not primarily.
If there is land available, people can build their own homes, if they are not prevented by trade barriers, licencing fees and a greedy buerocracy. There is also a backlog of technological developments, as the wood frame home is just no longer the state of the art, not safe against fire, high wind, and mold, so new architecture is needed, but as a European architectural engineer, they do not allow me to just go there and build better, trade barriers are plenty..

I will share my comment, even though it is a difficult thing for me to talk about, and while I almost 100% agree with your liberal perspective, my perspective is something you and most people may not agree with. I am the son of an immigrant, as well as the grand child of a woman who immigrated to canada as a farm-labourer. My grandmother immigrated from Poland and was given land by the canadian government. My father on the other hand, was a teacher with a master's degree, but when landed he worked as a janitor for many years! So a common misconception is that the "canadians", i.e. settlers descended from migrant workers coming in search of a better life, actually are a VERY large percentage of the population, and the only true "canadians", are the first peoples who populated this continent 10,000 years ago! Why does "canada" really need immigrants? Well yes, the population is aging and we ARE in need of workers, of whom immigrants are more than happy to supply. But there is another fact, that a lot of immigrants coming to canada actually want to immigrate, because their own nations have been kept in poverty. So for example, while a mexican farm labourer makes a very very low wage in mexico, they can come to canada and make a much higher wage, even though this "higher" wage is actually MUCH lower than what a white canadian would get paid for the same work. This creates a very competitive market place which forces businesses in canada to hire the cheaper labour, compelling the government in turn to take more immigrants. It's not that immigrants are taking peoples jobs. Rather, it's that businesses won't pay a "living" wage that middle class canadian workers are used to, because they can just hire workers from impoverished nations, who all have been impoverished due to the imperialism and power of the U.S. regime... the latter of which is built on the backs of black slave labour, and on violently stolen land. This may be an uncomfortable truth to many canadians, immigrants or not, but it is critical in creating a new culture of solidarity and respect, that will carry the canadian political and economic landscape into very uncertain future times, both for indigenous peoples, white canadian workers, and skilled immigrants who all need to figure out how to survive in an actually very rich abundant country.

This is a very controversial video and very complex issues unfortunately.
Population growth is required to sustain a country's labour force long term but the way the government has handled our immigration has been downright immoral.
We are going through the biggest housing crisis in the history of the country and the government has wasted the last decade through terrible choices which have now made the average Canadian's life worse off.
Immigration also drives down labour wages and drives up the cost of living and housing. Dark times ahead for this country.

This is wrong. Globalization and anti-workers campaigns, union busting, etc have driven down wages. Lack of restrictions on property rentals and no incentive to build affordable housing is what is driving up the cost of living. Canadian capitalism is in crisis. Socialism is an excellent solution for canada, or at the very least a more progressive funding of services and creation of jobs by the government which is what stimulates growth. People like you only give reasons for canadians to fight against immigration, and not fight for a government that benefits the working class, immigrants or otherwise.

    1. Immigrant owners usually higher own country people, the job are isolated with there country people. Spanish owners hire Spanish people , Tim horton is all people from south Asia, mcdonalds with south east Asian. We want to promote inclusion but we want to expect the same back.
    2. This is not an immigrant fault but the results is housing situation is bad, it's the government is not adapting properly.
