I have never seen this way of drying hay and storage. Thank you for sharing.

Very cool!! Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Really like how you can dry it while it's being stored. Keep up the great vids!

I'm curious about the moisture of the hay, and how much grass and how much legume is in the hay - grasses will dry a full day before alfalfa. We blew hay to fill our enormous barn back in the 1950s. We didn't have driers so the hay had to be so dry to prevent burning the barn down that the alfalfa leaves shattered into clouds of dust. The heart of good dairy forage is in the alfalfa leaves. Looking back, I'm amazed we didn't burn the barn down, and how the cows produced any milk with such poor forage. Thanks for this video.

Nice, thank you for sharing 🙂 we have drying machine just for this reason - to be able to store hay as soon as possible because of losses of grass and clover leaves. We have to be careful of hay moisture nontheless. We dont have alfalfa but other clover species on permanent grass fields and with them it's the most difficult to keep the leaves on, especially if you use a tedder on hay.

we used to do this with grain but ours just blew it in then you had to shovel it around witch was horrible and dusty in the small loft so now we bulk tip in an open shed because it's so much easyer

What are these two concrete barrels? Do you store something there too? Has there been a video about them?

Those are our old fermenting silos, we used them back in the day for corn and grass silage. Now we have rainwater storage in one and place for sick animals (quarantine) in the other 😉

Where are you located? Is that a silage blower that you are using to blow the hay in? how does the hay hold up to going through the blower? At some point could you show a more detailed look of the pipe blowing the hay in? It would be cool to see the track and what pivots the end. Is the blower (drying the hay) under the hay or off to the side? I have been wanting to barn dry hay, on a much smaller scale, for our horses and your demonstration shows some great enhancements to just forking the hay onto a wagon and then into a barn.

Hi. This was filmed on our farm in Slovenia. The blower is used just for hay, the fan at the beginning makes vacuum which sucks the hay into the pipe and then pushes it trough. It's simple system and it's good for small quantities of hay. I will try to make another video someday 😉

Thank you for the answer! I am getting sick and tired of dealing with all the plastic from roundbales, and roundbales frozen solid in the winter, so I am considering building a barn for hay drying and storing. It was common here in Norway in the 70's and 80's, but then everyone went to round bales. Since then there has been a lot of innovation in indoor hay drying technology done, especially in the Alp-countries. Take a look here for instance: www.heutrocknung.com/en/videos.28
I can buy fans and self loading wagons no problem, but things like the blower(what we call a hay cannon) and the telescoping tube that disperses the hay evenly in the drying box is no longer produced or sold here or in any of the immidiatly neighbouring countries.
If you know of any places/stores/online shops hay blower systems are still produced and sold please let me know!
