      I think that clearly shows how clueless Mr McKenna is. All technological civilizations will go through a radio phase, even really advanced civilizations would probably keep radio technology around because it's a cheap efficient way of communicating over distance. They would also be using radio telescopes to see if they could detect civilizations developing technology.

      @@stevemumbling7720 yes but the universe is 13 billion years old and larger than any human being could conceptualize. We've only had radio for what, say, a little over a hundred years? The probability that two intelligent civilizations have radio technology, around the same time as each other, and are close enough to each other to detect one another, and are even looking in the right direction at the right time to catch a signal (or are even searching at all) is astronomically low.

    This is exactly how I have described life in similar conversations. While extremely rare, I think life is as equally distributed as any other element or phenomenon in the universe. Life is a fundamental inevitability, a product of the universe churning away. We are here, we are a product of that system and nothing happens just once at these scales.

    “Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.”

      Chimps, crows, and ravens use tools...we are impressed by their ingenuity but do we really consider them equals. I suspect an alien civilization would need some seriously liberal views to apply a "Prime Directive" to respect developing species.

  • @waymire01

    One of the most basic issues is that we don't even understand all forms of life on our own planet. We haven't even explored everything on dry land, only a small portion of our ocean... and we understand little of what we have found. Our basic knowledge requirement is can we eat it, and can we make money off of it. We already know of other intelligent life here on our own rock.. and not only do we not respect it, and can't communicate with it, we haven't even tried. We don't understand the basic functions of our own planet, and have no regard for the damage we do to it. We don't even know what we are looking for, other than something very similar in the large scheme of things, to us... the odds that another "us" evolved is microscopic. We cannot even comprehend all the variations of life possible in completely different environments, or even what those environments may be. The odds that we will clumsily stumble into something recognizable from another galaxy, with our child-like technology, is absurd at best. Honestly if something else is out there with the kind of advanced technology and intelligence to allow them to travel to us.. they probably don't want anything to do with us after seeing how we treat our planet and fellow earthlings, and if they did make contact we would be horrible to them.

    The Think Anomalous RUclips channel has a lot of fascinating videos on the RUclips phenomenon. He tends to lean more towards Jacques Villée’s hypothesis that they aren’t necessarily extraterrestrial. There’s lots of suuuper “high strangeness” experiences people have reported that seem to be connected to UFO. Like the Sandown Clown thing. Shrouded Hand recently uploaded a video about the Santa Isabelle entity which occurred during a UFO flap and it’s a real trip.

    • @Yatukih_001
      @Yatukih_001 6 месяцев назад +1

      Exactly. Everybody began to talk about extraterrestrials shortly after James Cameron released Aliens. And then people saw aliens in groups. Like two or threes. Before the first Alien movie was made, they always saw just one alien - like the Bibedun entity. If all these aliens are all real there would be no need for them to follow scripts from Hollywood. Nobody would know what they would look like until one of them showed up.

    There is a cracking podcast called "It's Probably Not Aliens" 2 fellas going through the ancient aliens "evidence" from the "History" channel Anicent Aliens show and looking at the actual explaination and interesting IRL history behind the claims made, a little bit at how if you scratch the surface of those theories youvery quickly get nazis and a bit of Scooby Doo lore. Their first two episodes though are just going over all this stuff with an guest astro physicist and astronomer and it is brilliant. There's two long ish episodes of this that goes into a bit more depth than Moid, so if you're finding this really interesting that might be a nice one to go through next.

    The Fermi Paradox has been tightened with the advent of the concept of the Von Neumman self-replicating machines. If an alien civilisation made a Von Neumann machine and sent it out into the cosmos, then the diffusion of such machines with a modest interstellar travel time would mean they would be everywhere in the galaxy in between 250m-500m years.

As an adult you are expecter to abandon such interests, but is that adulthood or the economic and political systems we live under pushing us to be productive in the sense of creating wealth for a handful elites? I think our current system would find itself viewing extraterrestrial life of the intelligent variety as a threat. Wouldn't intelligent life that found us first realize this and take necessary precaution?

    Does it really matter whether the nearest other intelligent life is Galaxies away, or "Right next door" astronomically in Proxima ? way, we're not gonna meet them. Barring some completely unknown advance in Science, Interstellar travel is just not going to happen. And even meaningful communication at Interstellar distances is highly unlikely as, yes the carrier radio waves could reach that far, the messages on them would not. So Proxima Centauria are not now watching Doctor Who's 2020 episodes. One counter thought though. If an alien race we're extremely long live compared to us, then they might not be bothered by a journey of several centuries any more than humans of the days of Captain Cook were bothered by a journey of 3-5 years

    You really have a way of sucking the viewer in. There is a very good TV movie from the 70s/80s called Mysterious Two that overlaps UFOs and religious cults. It was apparently based upon Bo and Peep space cultists in California of the time. After Peep died, Bo founded the Heaven's Gate cult and we know how that ended. What's extremely disturbing? The TV movie essentially predicted what would happen though leaves you wondering. You might want to take a look because that movie really hits the mark.
