  • Testing out the Panorama AUGHB-VAR 5/8 wave mobile antenna on this 120km PMR channel 8 net contact between Bristol and Birmingham.
    Panorama AUGHB-VAR - bit.ly/339gYCv
    Panorama MMR Base - bit.ly/327mDtG
Gear Info: I was using the Retevis RT98 UHF mobile radio on low power during this transmission into about 4m of CS23 coax (a slightly lower loss variant of RG58). This was fed into a 3.5dBi Panorama AUGHB-VAR 5/8 wave antenna centrally mounted on the roof of my car using a Panorama MMR magmount.
Thanks to all for making me feel welcome on this Sunday evening. I hope that further pandemic lockdowns won't make it more difficult for me to film this kind of content. Thanks also to Paul and Lee.

Hello I wonder if anyone can help me, I'm setting up a pmr446 .5w system for a group of taxi drivers in the bristol center to help moving on to ranks, what is the best quiet channel to use of the 16 available. I shall be setting up a ctcss sub tone as well also.

You can use PMR446 for business and anything between 9 and 16 would probably be quietest but as the frequencies are all used by low power devices, anything apart from 1 or 8 would be OK too.
I would go for licensed radios where you would have your own dedicated frequencies for use.
Any other opinions or thoughts out there?

No. This was probably using an ERP of about 6W.

About as illegal as downloading an song as an MP3...A harmless crime that is not enforced at all... Why do amateurs feel the need to put down any radio activity that is not on the amateur bands?

@@pmr446 actually it does have affects. It's like shouting at peeps with a mega phone at a whisper party. Downloading a illegal mp3 doesnt prevent other listeners from listening,

@@maxprotongames A small business using 0.5 watts at a 100m radius would overpower a 25 watt signal from miles away, even then the business would be using CTCSS so would be unable to hear hobbyist activity..

@@maxprotongames if they're professionals surely they should invest in a business setup rather than using amateur frequencies that amateurs are using?
