People actually lived in this shit hole up until the late 1960’s. Check out the You Tube video with James Mason visiting it in the late 60’s. Looks the exact same. Even the boards laying in the yard almost 80 years later.
The boards lying on the ground actually used to be a porch roof, covering the door leading down the steps, next to the murder site. At least, it was part of the roof at the murder scene. From drawings I've seen, the back yard didn't look that messy at the time of the murder.
Jack the Ripper took a massive risk when he murdered Chapman. He murdered her around sunrise (5.25 a.m) which was about the time people were leaving for work, and the only escape route was via the front of the property.
This is stunning. I was always puzzled by the TWO doors at the front. The right-hand door to N Brill looks like a barbers with the Brylcreem on the window.
Yes, the front room was made into a barbers shop in the very early 1900s and the right hand door was added. It stayed in business till the late 1950s, and remained empty till demolition in 1970.
She was seen by Mrs. Long outside of 29 Hanbury street shortly before the murder. The man Mrs long saw said "will you?" And Annie said, "yes." It is presumed that Mrs long saw the ripper talking to Annie, but his back was turned to her so she did not see the man's face. Annie took the man to the backyard of 29 Hanbury street, where she was later found murdered.
Yeah like Sean said, they were round the front on the road and they both went down the back alley and into the back yard,he strangled her before the rest of the evil deed and she fell against the fence,as this happened a next door Tennant a young man called Albert Kadosh,Cadosh, was walking to the toilet in the back yard and heard something hit the fence but he ignored it and didn't think anything of it perhaps because he had a urinary infection,if he'd looked over the top of the fence he would have caught him in the act. It happened at approx 5:30am.
@@zephyr1969 ok thanks. There is a documentary clip on RUclips featuring actor James Mason in the backyard of 29 Hanbury Street who said the body was found on the right of the backyard, as you face the backyard from the back door. Completely opposite to where you say. Confusing.
@@wanderer1955that documentary got it wrong. the next door neighbour heard something or someone hitting the fence as he was using the toilet in the backyard. the fence in question was to the left of the back door of 29 Hanbury street as viewed from the house, & Annie Chapman's body was found lying between the steps and the fence. as someone else mentioned, the ripper took a big risk on this occasion

Rough?!? ...It's almost perfect!! 😳
Scary 😮 Lechmere 😈
How he got away with this murder without being seen is baffling
you could not see the back yard from the front door then but very close to as it was
So clear this up for me, was Annie Chapman sleeping in the back yard when the ripper found her or did she take the ripper there.

That a women was killed just a few feet from the door of a room with a family living in it and they did not hear a thing.
She was suffocated before he silently mutilated her
Thanks
Sorry? where was the body found?
Annie Chapman was found between the steps and the fence.
