I play a lot of jazz music and have been trying to get a more funky / hip hop style to some of the things I am doing and have never thought it felt quite right. You've explained how to adapt what I can already do so well, you've explained it brilliantly. Thanks.

GUYS! Thanks for all this positive feedback, man. This was my first upload on the channel back in 2008 and it's cool to see that it's still getting all kinds of traction. Keep bouncin'. :)

Years of school and a 4 minute video has put that more eloquently than any 'teacher' has ever done.

That's why the marriage between hiphop and jazz works so well, bcz there sorta from the same family. Well said bro, well said 😁

Well Rob, its about time you met me. I'm an old drummer from the 50-60's and after a long hiatus (raising 6 kids) I'm back in the game for my own pleasure at 69 years old. I ran across your videos on you tube and was really drawn to your style and method of teaching, great stuff. Where were you when I was 12 years old, oh yea, no internet then. Can you even think of such a thing??

I remember well, long time ago (In the 80's), when a drummer told me: "All what we can hear today comes from Jazz and Jazz drumming from Africa.. Not only by American, french and Latin stuffs, but Africa.. Go there and see by yourself.." You know what, Rob? After all these years, this fantastic drummer was not only right, but the truth is still more true than ever! Great video, you are an excellent drummer and an exceptional teacher !! All the best.. Pierre

I've watched numerous videos on hip hop groves and then here is this pixilated gem from 2008 that explains it simply while at the same time showing you where it came from. Brilliant.

I have never seen a more understandable video on drum technique. Bravo. A jazzy 3 feel to a rocky 4. I had no idea you could even do that. :-)

Well, Mr. Brown, this video proves that even a decade ago you were knowledgeable and skilled drummer/musician who has a real knack for breaking concepts down and conveying them very simply and clearly. You're a master at show & tell! I'm really glad I found this gem from back in the day!

  • @anthonyalvarez9664
