The going rate in my location for a scrap bike is $50 in the winter and about $70 in the summer tops, I've noticed. I want to try and buy scrap for $25, restore it and cross my fingers I can sell awesome bikes in the summer from $70 to $100 each. It'll all come down to the overall expenses on the restoration, but I can hopefully swing a 25 to a 60 profit per bike. It ain't gonna make me rich overnight but makes for a decent side hustle and hobby. My confidence level is about a 7, however it's definitely hard to argue someone who been doing it for 36 years, as I have zero experience lol. I figure worst case scenario, I flip and put a minimum amount into them. Just enough to get them up and running and that'd help cut expenses, but I'd love to work the full remodel if possible.

...mmm I pulled a TREK 7 4 out of the lake this summer - it had been in the water at least 3/4 of a year . I decided to tear it apart and rebuild it . Holy Cats the new parts - bearings - wheels - tires - brakes - derailer's - cables - chain - shifters - brake levers and the $55 dollar handle bar grips really add up to around $450 dollars just for the parts ...

@@user-el1lp8bg4e if it's a vintage, semi vintage trek bike I would maybe restore one just to bring a vintage back on the road. I wouldn't feel bad commuting and starting conversations with one tbh🤷 Brings back 90s vibes

Nice retro build! I like that you kept the parts from the same era as the frame. Did you know Trek will send you decals for the exact year? Saves the trouble of approximating.

I still have MTB with Trek 8500 2008 frame, top of their Aluminum line at a time. Mine was sold separately so has V-brake bosses and smooth welds. The frame in this video is 2007 model year I think, the last year with "ZR9000" on it. My 2008 is branded "Alpha Aluminum".

Verdade, a última que quis reformar saiu tão caro que nem lucrei... Trabalhei muito na bike pra não ter retorno... Embora o que valeu foi o gosto da nostalgia de mexer na bicicleta
good job of using the anti-seize on the bottom bracket and pedals. Most people don't do that and then when it comes the time when they have to change them out the pedals or bottom brackets are seized up.
very nice build. I love the yellow. but i don´t like the brake-shift combination. imagin you are going downhill, and instead of breaking, you downshift^^
Your build was awesome. I have a similar frame in my garden and i want to restore it but i want to transform it into a hard trail mountain bike it's worth to do it.
