Grew up in San Francisco in the 50's. I rode this carousel probably 75 times when it operated at Playland at the beach. It was built in 1905 by Charles I.D. Looff a master carousel carver. He and his brother also built the 1911 Looff carousel down at the SCBB!!! 👍🎠
Also when it operated at SF's Playland from 1913-1972 it had 4 working band organs that played beautiful carousel music. I have some pictures of it from the early 60's when this carousel had an entirely different paint scheme on it. Also it had the lights going on a circular pattern on the swoopes and also lights on the outer upper rounding boards just above the circular mirrors!!!! 👍🎠
Request: Seabreeze Carousel with Wurlitzer 165 Band Organ
What's that high-pitched whirring sound...?
Construction work unfortunately 😅 The building was being repaired during the time i was there.
