Brother inlaw had one in the early 1980s. Stolen and recovered by the cops. Cops told him they found the bike and the thief in a ditch. Thief was laying in the ditch with a broken arm and a broken leg. The thief wasn't the last one to break a bone crashing that beast.
That thief must've had ahold of more bike than he wanted. my brother had one he loved it , climbed every pipeline around, and 50mph on blacktop that thing would pop up an come out from underneath ya if you wasn't careful. Those 465's were a whole lotta bike fs.
Just curious, did Yamaha build a new motor for the 1981 YZ465 or did they put a different cylinder, piston, head and carburetor on a YZ250. The reason I ask is because that’s exactly what some manufacturers did during this era.
thanks! it's more power in the yz 465 because it's a motocross bike, and the It 465 is more like a enduro bike. the it 465 is a bit less aggressive but probably a little faster in the topspeed
@@TopRevs Rm 250 1982, It 1982, Kx 250 1986, Rm 250 1991, Rm 250 with a perfectly fitted cr 500 engine in it... At the time I was dreaming about the 465 I was 16 and I was riding a Yz 125 1978. At 145 lbs wet, I tought, bigger is better! lol I now have a exc 250, a Sxf 350 and a Crf 450. My first real bikes, after the mopped but before the YZ 125 ;), were a Can Am 175 and a Husqvarna Cr 250 1973... These were dinausors already at the time I was riding them. Of this list, my all time favorites are the IT and the SXF 350. The 450 is a lot of fun too, but a bit too much.
my wife got me one in 80/81,i used to ride with my friends,they all had 400s,big bore bikes,and i had a 185 Yamaha enduro,all i did was shift gears like a mad man,always getting lump up with rocks,eating and beathing dust, and then,i unloaded my brand new bike,i was like forrest gump,no more training wheel,if i was riding,i was flying,amazing,felt like riding in the love seat,then turn the throttle,it was unbeliveable,that was about 45 years ago,am 70 now,before i take that last ride in life,i hope to ride one again,or newer,just saying
Just got a 1980 YZ465G model imported to the UK from California. Just gotta strip and rebuild it. Can’t wait to opens the throttle in it when she’s done 🥴

In 1984 I bought a 1981 IT250....the one year only white plastic edition. The cool part is I still have it. I have a video of it running on my channel.
dont sell it..they are rare and actually more reliable than the 490..nothing like a big bore my friend...every guy with actual balls i know who had one that sold one regrets the hell out of it..the 465 is so unique..and once its gone its gone..keep it
That 465 runs like it's supposed to! So many don't. Stock pipe sounds good!
Just watched 3 other 465 videos where tuning was off, didn't run right.
UncledaddyLoudog they are notoriously hard to jet because of the head design, they pinged bad unless you ran race gas, which we did, so....

I had the yz 490, 1988 and I know for a fact that the 465 is a much better bike. Less vibration than my 490 too.
Better suspension, as well.

These 80s models bike are jewels.
I bought one new in 81 had boost ports cut in the reed cage to crankcase made. A huge difference in power
