I just bought a Jeep Wrangler sport JK and I had this radio in my Silverado (until it was totaled) and now want to install it in my Jeep. I’m a fully licensed ham so that’s not a problem. I also use APRS to track my journeys. Thanks for this video! 73 de AI5DD
I am planning on the same radio but will mount the transmitter under the passenger seat. that was the power cable will go straight out the firewall to the battery. And the controller head in the pocket in front of the shifter. Good video, thanks 73's KC7PYT
Very nice video Sir!!! I am looking to get something setup in my JKU Sahara and will probably be a little similar to yours. I currently have a Yaesu 3DR and looking to use it with an amplifier to avoid getting another radio for now. Still doing research but this video was great!!!! 73!!!
Thank you! I actually have a video going up soon about the bar and what I have connected to it. this bar has been great and really makes mounting things on the interior nice and easy.
Thank you for this video! Tested for my Tech license and waiting for my callsign. I have my GMRS license already and have a couple of Baofeng's. Still trying to figure out which mobile I want to go with. How is the stubby antenna working for you?
Will be helping a friend mount a FTM400 in a new Rubicon, thanks for sharing your experience and ideas. Have you considered running your power wire in braided or split loom? Thanks again!
Awesome, that is a great radio too! Yes I did consider it and truthfully if I wanted to do it 100 percent perfect i should have done that. I’m glad my experience is helping people!
Thanks for sharing the video! I'm looking at getting this same radio for use in my 2021 Jeep Gladiator. I've got a couple questions. 1) Was the power wire supplied with the radio long enough for where you mounted the radio? 2) Was there anything that you would go back and do differently? Thanks in advance!
Hey thank you for watching! To answer your question: 1) the power cable was technically long enough but I would feel more comfortable with about 3-4 more inches of slack. I don’t know if the battery is on the driver side on the 2021 but on mine it’s on the passenger. 2) I would of spent the time to put the speaker behind my head on the roll bar (there are some good RUclips videos about it) but at the time I wanted something I could easily remove. Also make sure you spend the money on a good antenna. The short one I have in the video was terrible and I ended up returning it.
@@amwadventuresandgear6979 Yeah, mine is on the passenger side too. Something else that's a problem is that I don't think I have the hole in the firewall on the passenger side either. I bought the same longer antenna that you have; but have never had any faith in those little stubby ones. Thanks for the response!

I like that Vector bar

That's a nice clean install
Nice install thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching!
So between the 4:26 mark and 4:36 mark, you show the antenna mounted to the NMO mount on your hood. What is the make and model of that antenna?
73...
Yea. In my opinion that antenna was not worth it. It spiked my SWR off the charts and only really worked in 400 mhz range.
@@amwadventuresandgear6979 what antenna did you go with? Or did you go without?
nice install - W2TU
Great install

Is your negative power wire connected to the negative battery terminal?

how in the world did you get that mounted under the seat, mine won't fit at all.
Looks great. Looks like it’s been about a year. How are you liking the radio?
The radio has been stellar. Good sound, no issues whatsoever. The display is small but clear and does everything I want it to do.
Just for SWL, that is an rather expensive solution., bt the 300D isTheRadio...
