- Lake Erie Kayak Fishing: Steelhead, Walleye, Perch, Drum, and Catfish
Lake Erie is one of the best kayak fishing destinations in the world, offering anglers a chance to catch a variety of species, including steelhead, walleye, perch, drum, and catfish. In this video, I'll share my tips and techniques for kayak fishing on Lake Erie and show you how to catch all of these species.
Steelhead
Steelhead are a challenging but rewarding fish to catch on kayak. They are typically found in the tributaries to Lake Erie during the fall, winter, and spring. To catch steelhead, I like to troll Berkley Flicker Shad 7.
Walleye
Walleye are another popular species to target on Lake Erie. They can be caught in the tributaries and in the main lake throughout the year. To catch walleye, I like to use a variety of lures, including Rapala Jigging Rap, Cabelas Mean Eye blades, and trolling Reef Runners and similar stick baits.
Perch
Perch are a fun and easy species to catch on kayak. They can be found in the shallows of the lake and in the tributaries. To catch perch I like to drop shot blade baits and jigging raps.
Drum
Drum are a large and powerful fish that can be a lot of fun to catch on kayak. They are typically everywhere walleye and perch are found. To catch drum, I like to use anything! Seriously, they hit cranks, jigs, trolling stick baits, harnesses, etc.
Channel Catfish
Channel Catfish are another large and powerful fish that can be caught on kayak. They are typically found in the shallows of the lake and in the tributaries. To catch catfish, I like to use anything that catches walleye. They hit it all!

Do you know why Drum get those sock butts? I caught one with and without. Does it have to do with their spawning season or the type of gender or them?
My opinion has been that the pressure difference from being on the bottom to pulling them up quickly causes it.
