Well now, Footloose (the original film) is Forty years old!
Yes, for those of you old enough to remember when it came out and not realising this fact - we apologise profusely as you are probably going to read the rest of this either;
From the floor having fallen over; or;
With your head in your hands, or;
In about 5 minutes with a large glass of something alcoholic having looked it up or asked your partner if we are barking mad!!!
It’s one of those tunes we head to, usually, part way through our second set to get those unsure whether to join others on the dance floor - onto the dance floor - and it rarely fails!
We obviously hold no rights to the tune, it’s just a cover, and thank the original contributors for giving us a great song to play live, but it’s fun, jaunty, you can dance pretty much how you want to it, and did we mention it’s 40??

We could not let this milestone pass so we appealed to the brilliant and local to us A.K. Academy of Dancing for help! If we’re honest what we know about dance…..we’ll come to that!
The very wise, multi diploma in dance holding and alongside her colleagues Andrea and Kim, principal of AK - Anna Knowles-Hibbert took a few days to think about what we asked and then said she would kindly get a few students to put together a routine for us to film.
Marvellous, we’re happy with that - Anna gave us a date and asked if we had any specific requirements - more specifically she asked the drummer who, despite being our drummer has little or no rhythm when it comes to being stood up and even less in terms of dance moves!
“Um, I think, can I leave the dancing bit up to you please Anna?”
The day before the “shoot” Anna calls and checks we are ready as the girls are excited!
We turn up at their brilliant studio in Poole, Dorset to meet our lady in charge, teacher and choreographer, Sophie Norton followed by a few of her older dancers, about 8 of them.
This is great we’re thinking - and then more came, and more, and more until we had a dance room with 26 amazing, talented and excited young ladies ready to show us what they can do - and what you see is the result.
It was loud, and hot, and fun, and we asked these brilliant local dancers to “do their thing” over and over again!
From the youngest to the oldest, from the shortest to the tallest and from their amazing teacher there was not one moan or gripe, they performed perfectly and made up some stuff on the fly to give us something you can all enjoy.
Talent in abun-dance!
We love our collaborations with “local” - it’s part of what we do to try and promote live music, and with the help of the vision of people like Anna and Sophie we have another way to get you all involved.
Most of the young ladies had never seen the film, they are all teenagers and younger so we can’t blame them, and it’s forty (just to remind you) but when we explained this end part of the film is all about a party, enjoying yourselves, expressing themselves after - in the film - loud music and dancing had been denied, they got it!
We hope some of them will watch the original Footloose from 1984 now with a smile!
We also hope you enjoy their video, it’s not ours, it’s AK’s talented ladies that absolutely owned it!
