Seriously, thank you for pointing out which needles, types of fabric and why you are using them! There are sooooooo many videos that don't say these sorts of important tidbits and it makes being a beginners life hard!

I have been sewing for years and this is the first tutorial I’ve found that makes sewing leggings without a store purchased pattern easy as pie. I’m in love! 😍 I’m extra tall and I’m thick so clothes pants cost me a fortune. Now I can make my own in colors I like. Thank you so much, girly. I’m now a fan and I’ve subscribed.

I found you last evening and all I can say is you are totally awesome! I am 71, haven't sewed for 32 years and am starting anew. However, I learned more from you last night and this morning than I knew for my first 20 years of sewing. I never had instructions so just "faked" it but still made some pretty gorgeous things. Now I have the confidence, after watching just a couple of your tutorials, to really start creating the beautiful things I've been dreaming of, both for the new baby (first of her generation) born four weeks early on Cinco de Mayo (even though we aren't Hispanic I love Cinco de Mayo -- it's way cool) and her cohorts as they come along. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping an old lady find joy and purpose in her life!

Wow, Vanessa, I have never been moved to write a comment on RUclips before. Your video was terrific on so many levels. Every thing was covered perfectly and really well thought out! From your most excellent explanation of how and why of materials needed and the step by step process of laying out, cutting, pining and sewing!! AND you didn't make us watch you put in every pin in slow-mo! It might be nice to show how to put in a one pin for those who really don't know, but most of us who choose to watch a video like yours know would know that. You gave all the information to really go out and DO! And I will! You exude energy, enthusiasm and excitement with out being Manic! Brava! Kudus and Wild Blessings! Can't wait to go view your other sites and projects.

Thank you so much for making this tutorial. It is by far the best one I have seen yet on how to make your own leggings without a store bought pattern. It also helps when trying to increase the size of store bought leggings that were too small. This totally frees you up to be able to buy smaller sizes and craft them to fit. Two thumbs up from this momma.

Mind Blown!!! I am not paying for a pattern or class to teach me how to make leggings after this because you have shown me just how easy it is. I have worn a hole in my favorite leggings in the thigh area and was becoming frustrated because I wasn't sure if the patterns available would fit my bodacious backside and long legs without being too short. I like mine to bunch just a bit over my ankles. They are made of the best quality fabric, but they are the best fitting and the most comfortable pair I own. Now I can remake them in a nicer stretch fabric. Thank you SO much for showing us just how easy it is to draft and create your own pattern!!!

Excellent video! I have to admit, my friend gave me a roll of that craft paper- I use it for EVERYTHING from sewing patterns to paintings- handy stuff! I've been using it for pajamas recently, you can mark a couple different sizes on it and sort of cut and pin- and then you get everybody's jammies handled S - L. Similar to what we're doing here. Again thank you for your video. :)

Love these! I personally don’t wear them but my granddaughter is going to have a rainbow of colors! Just an FYI, I understand your line marked ‘stretch’ however, instead there should be a line running from the top to the bottom (about 12”-18”). Each end of the line is then measured to the fold and adjusted so they are both the same distance. This ensures your pattern is on the ‘strait of grain’. And the width of the garment will still be going with the ‘stretch’ of the fabric. Thanks for sharing all your wonderful ideas!

However the way they made the waistband area is something more that needs help. They used a 2 inch wide elastic but didn't take the extra time to double sew it and now it's rolling. Can I fix it without ripping out the entire band or can I sew over the outside and fix it? Thanks, Dawn

Ok, a year later, I ask again busy lady, the gray open cardigan, is it a pattern I can purchase?
Your video is my go to now for leggings, I have recommended it to many sewers! Congrats on the new venture with a new channel!

Thank you SOOOO much for this video. I wear these all the time and love to work out at home in these. They can get expensive at the store so now I can make my own. :)

Thank you so much for the video, I just started running and want to make my own leggings. The one question I have is I have a larger rear end, how to you adjust for that in the pattern?

Start with a piece longer than what you would normally need. I buy elastic on a roll so I always have tons. But something like 1.5 yards would work. I tug on the elastic as I sew and then cut off whatever I don't need when I get all around the waistband.
