- "THE FAN FILM THAT ALMOST WAS" ...
...This is a Fan Film I shot and co-directed with John Slade back in 2006.
We shot this for $500 on one of JVC's very first 24P HD cameras, well before the DSLR/ RED revolution. This film along with four other "Fan Films" were slated to be attached ( As Extras) to a "NATIONAL" Re-Release of H1. This idea was spear- headed by Halloweenmovies.com and we had to sign releases for everyone and everything. The studio, in the end, unfortunately opted to go with the typical interviews (as extras)- that we've seen a million times before instead of showcasing what the die hard fans were doing ??? WTF???
We had a blast for a budget of $500 and a lot of help by current industry Pros.
Over the years other fans have given us HUGE props to what we did and we even got into the Cucalorus Film Festival in 2006. www.cucalorus.org
NOTE: This is Heartbreaking !! The Mask that I used in the Title Intro was a "Shatner 98" mask that I had converted years before - Unfortunately that mask was lost/ stolen right after we shot that sequence ( on a real Pee Wee Dolly-NOT A ZOOM!!!) I had to resort to a hand made mask "Samhain" from Mask Maker Productions that I further modified with more weathering and totally different hair. Considering the Rush / Panic to get a decent mask for the shoot, it turned out decent enough and looks totally bad ass in some shots!
Also Note: We scanned parts of this HD footage on to a 35mm Film Print to see how well the camera held up on the big screen--It looked amazing !!
The film stars Ashley Novasad, and Michael Harrington and Co-Director John Slade, who put his best “slash” forward to nail down “The Shape” a.k.a Michael Myers.

Well done. I was really impressed with the lighting. I can't imagine how difficult it must have been to film at night. The suspense, the use of the Shape. You portrayed it perfectly. Loved it and I'm sorry I didn't catch this sooner. I hope for a sequel.

@Bryan I watch this each October since I first saw it on here. It's definitely one of the best fan-films I've ever seen done about the franchise. Lighting, camera angles, timeline, and even the surprise of a little bit of the HALLOWEEN III score mixed in. As a filmmaker and screenwriter myself, well done man!!

The Halloween franchise is phenomenal not just because of the amazing films created by major studios, but because of these fan films created by the people who love the muse. With so many of these independent fan films circulating, there is very little chance that these characters will ever truly die. I want to give a shout out to all these filmmakers and actors who keep the spirit of Cinema alive. The only originality we truly get comes from you. Hollywood simply recycles older products. You let them marinate and evolve into something truly spectacular. Now, my honest opinion... On my list of Halloween Fan Films, this one ranks number 2, right behind Revenge of the Sandman. It's an amazing accomplishment, and u should be proud of this film. My hat is off to u. Don't stop doing what ur doing. U r gonna make it either way
So grateful I discovered this short film tonight. Halloween is my #1 horror film. I watch it every Halloween night. Been doing that for decades now. This fan film was spooky and had atmosphere. Michael was quite scary and unrelenting. The shower murder was disturbing and I loved it. What really struck me was the final murder. Showing Michael’s eyes was key. Dr. Loomis
said “ the darkest eyes, the
devil’s eyes.” For the first time, I saw them. Well done !! Forever I will be haunted by that image. Thank you to cast and crew. This film is a welcome bridge between movies 1 and 2. Looks like I was entitled to one good scare tonight. Happy Halloween!!!
Absolutely loved this! The only problem I have is that the film wasn’t long enough! I wanted more!!! I’d much rather have you guys have my $50 million dollar Hollywood movie budget and get your crew to do all the Halloween movies from here forward. I love Michael Myers and you guys captured the quiet storm that resides inside him. Great job with timing the musical scores to the movie situations!

Bryan Kupko yeah mate think that would be a great idea if your looking for an idea that worked this guy directed a film Never Hike Alone and he had 17,000 budget and it’s now known as one of the best Friday the 13th films and is now getting a blue ray it’s worth the watch!

Hell Yea !!! Thank You friend... that was the whole point! I do wish we had one of the bad ass masks offered up today--we would have had that Shatner 98/99 we used in the Titles but we had very sad bad luck -(read more in description) We scramble for something decent and Decent with good lighting is what we got. HalloweenMovies.com thought so as well and this Fan Film along with a few others at the time almost got a Nationwide Release!!!!

The Producers decided to do something else for that nationwide re-release of H1
Bryan Kupko im working on a fan film of my own. We're hoping to have at least some photos out by the end of the month but you know how online shopping is they're taking their sweet time delivering the mask, coveralls, breakaway props fake blood etc. 😒

This is one of the best halloween fan films i’ve ever seen! It has the Feeling of the original halloween but modern, one thing u guys remember where that The shape scared his victims before killing them that has been forgoten during the other halloween movies, it’s scary, acting’s good and the best thing... very, very scary The Shape! 9/10

Nice homage to Psycho. But it was a bit cliche of having Ashley scream while that lady from Night Of The Living Dead was screaming. Also (and I don’t mean to sound inappropriate), am I the only one who noticed that you kind of showed Ashley’s bosom a bit too much?

Great filmmaking, but the plot needed more story. For the 1st 13min the film went nowhere. Very well done, just wish you guys had more story to tell.
this was only ever going to be a 5 or 10 min short --if we had more preproduction time , yeah we could have done more. The title sequance when somewhere --come on :)
