The less debt the more freedom, and it doesn't matter if you make 15k per year or 550k.

I grew up the eldest of 11 children. My dad worked, my mom raised us. I could probably write this book too. Mom could take the money that Dad gave her for groceries fill the fridge, freezer, cupboards and still have money to save for whatever she wanted to buy for herself. (usually something special for the house) We had a huge garden. We picked wild berries in season. We ate wild foods. (She and I read all of Euell Gibbons' books) We joined a health food co-op.We made a lot of our own clothes, recycled, repurposed and upcycled things before these things had a name. I am so thankful for all I learned from growing up this way.

I still have my book of this. Found the first book when it came out. Was so happy they made a complete one combining the previous books. Anyone know if there has been a more recent revision? In 2023 we could all use one. Though, much of the information will not have changed but some things have.

I got her newsletters, I'm pretty sure the pronunciation of her name is 'Decision'.
The skills I learned from her meant that when my FIL got married in Florida we were able to go and do Disney on the trip without going ridiculously overboard. We spent less on a ten day trip for four then most would spend on a five day trip for two.

ten plus years ago did the Dave Ramsey course. Payed off hundred thousand plus in debt. Downsized. Began prepping and building a home site, gardens and orchards on a 15 acre spot adjacent to state wildlife/water refuge. By God's grace realized life is way more valuable then things. Because of a faith/mind shift I retired left the rat race and now live a blest life and revel in every day God gives me. I am as ready as possible if SHTF. I have built strong bonds with like minded people and a home church group. We have conducted the Dave Ramsey program for hundreds of folks as part of our community out reach. We are currently working on a modified program for high school and young adults that families/ schools and society have failed to teach the basics on credit-saving and building a debt free life.

I read Amy's first book in the 80's as well as reading Larry Burkett's (Christian Financial Concepts) books and newsletters... I attended the classes that Larry conducted in Atlanta and Chattanooga. That motivated my wife and I to become debt free and live a much less consumption driven life. Unfortunately, she has passed, but I now enjoy a much more secure future due to the teaching by Amy and Larry..

I saw your suggestion for "The Tightwad Gazette" & as a young stay-at-home mom on a very small income, I decided to check it out in the library. I've had it less than a week & I already feel it's impact on how our family does things.
We cracked the bottom of a plastic pitcher, so that it won't hold liquids anymore, but it's otherwise intact. I decided to tape the bottom & the spout to make it airtight, than put my husband's granola cereal that I also made inside. Nothing wasted!
I'm already recommending this book to as many people as I can.
