I think about him every so often - I was fortunate enough to have seen Les Negresses Vertes back in the 90's, TWICE! The first time with Helno in front, they were magnificent - on stage Helno made a full bottle of Jameson's whiskey disappear before our eyes! But it was a great show. The second time was just as brilliant, but Helno went missing during the break and the band had to carry on without him for a while. In the meantime, my friend and I found him passed out in the ladies loo, so we carried him back between us and his mates pulled him up onto the stage where he carried on as if nothing had happened... He invited us all to the after party and I'll never forget it. Sad though, it'd be really funny if I didn't know what happened to him just a few years later.
I lost my father a few years ago and shortly after I started this ritual. I love to sit on the beach at a lonely spot put out phone or boom box and play music. This track is one of them. Now I lost my mother and I sit again on some rocks. The wind is blowing and the sound of the waves mixes with the music I love. You are right this song is really very good. I even tried to translate it to german.
saw them play live on BBC2 and rushed out the next day to the Tottenham court road end of Oxford street to buy the 12" from one of the large music retail stores. Memory escapes me. Love u RoRo and mr stubborn man Chico. xx
