Now I want to watch Iron Monkey '93 movie (with Donnie Yen) as you suggest. Loved Wang Ju Yi's book by the way (read because of your suggestion.). Ayurveda (an Indian Healing modality) has this "Treating toxins with toxins" too, for instance the correctly prepared medicine including mercury (rendered harmless through special preparation methods) which I've heard Sadguru sincerely assert is the only reason he's still alive.
In Homeopathy there is also used a correctly prepared (ie, not toxic anymore) version of Mercury, Scorpion, bee venom, etc. It's a principle called "Like Cures Like" - one of the main tenants homeopathy is based around.
Additionally, you see people having success in treating rashes such as shingles (very painful) by stinging themselves voluntarily around the rash area with bees, because they get actual pain relief that way (called bee sting therapy).
Your "tangents" brighten up the material - provide breathing room, aid memory, create contextual understanding of the whole picture, etc - don't worry about it. And by the way, so do the bits where you're being human (I mean taking a water-break and wondering if you'll make it thru with voice, talking to Kitty etc). Personally, I don't mind those bits in the least.
