My mother died last week, she was 86 years old suffering from dementia for the last 5-6 years. I was her primary, and for the most part the only caregiver. I just wanted to thank you for all your work here, it helped me a lot during all the struggles of caretaking. But also thanks to all people who leave their comments, I was able to learn so very much from them as well! Taking care of my mother was the hardiest, but at the same time the most rewording thing I've ever done. It fundamentally changed me for the better and made me stronger and overall better person then before, at least that is how I feel and see myself now. English isn't my first language, I'd wish I was able to explain myself better, but hopefully the point will be recognized. I wish all the best to everyone here and all of yours loved ones, stay strong and good luck with all of yours struggles! ❤
@@tanjadomacinovic3078 I wanted to express my deepest sympathy to you for your loss. I think caring for a parent, especially one with dementia, is the most powerful way to show your love. Your English is perfectly clear, and I am sure your mother felt your love as you helped her pass with as much dignity as possible. I wish you peace and hope you are surrounded by family and friends at this difficult time. 🩷
I’m so sorry for your loss. I totally understand how you feel. I lost my mom last June. She was 73. She suffered from dementia for about 2-3 years. I still missed her everyday. Caregiving is hard and I’m sure you did the best you can. Stay strong and take care ❤️😊
@@user-is2nc6qj6m Thank you very much and same goes to you! ❤️ Do you find going back to "normal" life, the one without caregiving, difficult? I'm suprised how lost I am without all the routines, no matter how hard they were sometimes...
My wife suffers from dementia and she goes to a social and wellness group once a week. One day she told me they had a group of toddlers come to the centre and my wife and the rest of the group interacted with the children, just passing a ball. It really had a great effect. Knowing how she just loves children I wasn’t at all surprised. ❤
My sister loves children, her face lights up when a babies face appears on ads on tv. I have discovered the program "big little shots" on RUclips.... Its the only program she becomes fully engaged with, her whole demeanor changes, smiling, laughing and applauds the kids...we watch these series frequently!
I wish I could put 100 likes on this presentation! When my elderly father was in the middle stages of Alzheimer’s he LOVED to watch BABY videos! My husband has the same condition and might appreciate Zinnia tv!
Thank you for sharing this podcast, and thank you to those who created "Zinnia" looks like it can be a great help to those taking care of someone with dementia and the person with dementia.
Thank you so much. I've been looking for an alternative to cable tv. My mom only watches three channels, has difficulty using the remote control and is paying $127 a month for cable. This seems to be much easier to use and better content.
Yes, my brother would believe that the movie/show was a real thing happening outside and was true, or the newspaper items (war items etc) were happening outside . He would be so agitated and confused . We got him magazines that were of interest .. fishing, music, gardens. The pictures he enjoyed and the short informative articles were great. He loved the outdoors, so his tv had movies avail for forest walks, shoreline walks etc with natural sounds. We even brought him in a pail of snow so he could feel it. He laughed at this as he was watching a snowman being built by his great grand kids. Anything to enhance his life. ❤
Wish I’d had something like this for my mother. She wanted to watch tv, but could not follow the storylines. This would have helped. Hope if this disease happens to me, I hope my family knows about this program. Thx
Thank you for this presentation! Zinnia looks great! I am thinking a lot of the content could also be used to spark conversations and activities with or create calming moments for our young grandchildren. For example: our young grands could watch along with me and my mother who has frontotemporal. She loves when they visit but they are often very anxious around her which in turn can raise her anxiety. Another way to use with grands: you could watch a video with them, say like the one on waterfalls. You could talk about together about waterfalls during the video and then take them out to a waterfall. Or do the opposite, visit a waterfall and then watch the video sometime after the visit and talk about what is the same or different than the waterfalls in the video thank the one they visited. I think I may try the Winter Fun one with them on the weekend to spark conversation. We could do an art project together as a follow up activity. Thank you so much for sparking ideas. I’m going to go subscribe to Zinnia. ❤
These are all great ideas! We love when Zinnia is used as a conversation starter or jumping off point for another activity. Multi-generational activities are also valuable.
I will check it out. There must be a large population of ex teachers. Any thought of making programs that might relate to them. caregiver of ex teacher
Lately my dad keeps asking to watch "the show, where the guy builds a machine and goes to other worlds and gets in trouble with his professor" and he is already watching it. it's sliders. He keeps asking about the first episode, and no longer understands that the first show leads to the 2nd...and then 3rd.. it's surreal
One on bathing, seems to be a big deal with my mom, exercising, and if there is a remote that too is a problem, she messes around with it and then is hollering about the channel change.😢
what to do if dementia client is getting repetitive and asking same question over and over. All the time getting worried for her son, asking when is he coming, saying that her heart is getting anxious, every time worried about the bin outside or the car parked outside, confused about where is she now and gets agitated easily. If I try to involve her into some activity she really doesn’t show interest in any activity. Please suggest what should a carer do ?

Yes we watch musicals. Doris day is his favourite calms him down and sings along happily

Yes, the normal TV is far too disturbing.
This is just what I’ve been looking for. Thank you.
Thank you for helping to share our story and for all you do for dementia caregivers!
Love this! Mom would do well with these.

Wonderful! Just wondering if Zinnia TV is available in Australia, please?
Yes - we're available on the web and via the Apple and Android app stores. Thanks for asking!
@@zinniafordementia Oh wonderful! And thankyou for taking the time to answer me! You've created an amazing 'product'.

Does Zinnia have topics like repairing cars, building things like benches, programming computers?
Hi Ruth. Allyson here. While we have a video about Classic Cars we do not have these other terrific topics you asked about. Adding them to the list!
How do i get this Zinnia TV on my COX channels?
Interested and might also consider for my dd sister who might need something like this.

Therefore, I can't watch the videos for free?
There is a small selection of free videos available on the ZinniaTV website.
Already a fan of Zinnia, now I'm more familiar with Dementia Careblazers!
