tim chappel a well deserved award it was! This was one of my favorite childhood movies and the costumes captured my imagination and (along with the rest of the film) inspired me and helped me accept myself and become the proud gay man I am today ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 thank you to you and the whole cast and crew for making this beautiful film!
@sjokomelk ... As my sister worked at American Express, worked to make the cards available and was interviewed by Entertainment Tonight for exactly this, I'm curious to know what your source is.
The Madness of King George should have been nominated in this category, the costumes designed for the film were absolutely gorgeous and an integral part of it. I don't know if it should have won, but at least a nomination in this category would have been amazing.
At first I was quite apprehensive about watching this film but i did watch it & what a spectacular film it was! Loved the cinematography & those witty dialogues. Terrance Stamp & Guy Pierce were awesome ! As for the costumes, i still wonder how they made some of the dresses they made for this film..
What's not to get about Letterman's joke? Lizze was wearing an outrageous American Express card dress. Letterman was a decent host for the Oscars, it's just that his monologue and quips about Oprah, Uma Thurman and Keanu Reeves was a tad too much and repetitive.
Even though I thought this movie should win for its outrageous costumes, I voted against it at the Oscar Party. I didn't think the Academy had the .....to vote for it. Boy was I wrong and glad I was. Well deserved ! !
That was nearly 20 years ago. We were such babies. Thanks for all your lovely comments.

Such a genius
All these years later yet still deserving of applause. Congratulations on an award win that was truly earned.
Until this day, this was such a great deserving win for the film.
You didn’t thank K-Mart! 😂💃🏼
One of the most deserving winners in this category ever: creativity and fun won for a change!!!
First time in so many years that a non-period costume design won best costume design.
@@MukgasmIts been to this day the last ever Costume Design win that‘s not a period or genre piece
Best Oscar dress ever. And god, Sharon Stone is a vision.
I fully agree , Sharon seems a mixture of a queen with an angel, a vision, a charm!
It was supposed to be used in the movie. But AmEx said no. So they made the flip-flop dress instead. Still iconic.

One of the most deserved winners in Oscar history
I'm impressed that enough voters even saw the film. It was the only nomination for "The Adventures of Priscilla".
I'm speechless. Sharon Stone looked fantastic that night
She presented best costumes like two years earlier too
The fact that the materials for the costumes were bought from a local KMart is icing on the cake 🤣
Happy #ThrowbackThursday!
Lizzie was and is the best dressed of ALL TIME!!
Tim chappel your end credit performance in the movie was hypnotising... Saved the best for last.
This and best original screenplay have always been my favorite Oscar categories
I love that Lizzy wore the AmEx dress that got replaced by the flip-flop dress in the movie to the Oscars 😍😍
Please see my comment elsewhere in this thread.
Stunning performances, amazing costumes, a classic movie! Thanks Tim & Lizzy! Amazing work!
only costume winner I remember- Lizzy's dress is truly iconic- more than Gwenyth's.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the American Express dress!

Sharon is Stunning
Sharon must have been filming Last Dance (the hair color).
Priscilla very deserving win. 🌈🎬📽️
Finally! Been waiting for this, one of the top-ten moments in Oscar history!
Sharon Stone has the best speaking voice ever.
I would easily listen to a whole collection of audiobooks narrated by her 🥰
My first major credit card was the gold AMEX. It was so cool to have that until I could not pay the huge bill.
And thank GOD they included Letterman's reaction!
And then after the break he quipped the dress had expired
Now THIS is a great win!
OMG!!!!!! I LOVE THIS MOVIE. ONE OF MY FAVORITES.
1:52 Sharon Stone said, “And it has pockets”
Of course it won those costumes are FABULOUS
(And they Beat " Queen Margot " )
Stone looked amazing
That's because the woman was wearing a dress made up of American Express Credit Cards. Pretty Unique.
15 years later, Lizzy and Tim would win the Tony for the costume design of the Broadway musical version.
AmEx had her permission for that dress, according to Lizzy. The cards were good only for that night 🙋🏼🙋🏽♂️😍
Of course they were. That's advertising money can't buy.
Ironically, ''Lawrence of Arabia'' wasn't nominated for the Academy Award for Best Costume Design.
Fantastic! i remember!... but so editing this video and not scenes for the movies. I love The Adventures of Priscilla
Absolute legends!
❇️ thank you for this amazing award!!!!!

Colleen Atwood recieved her first nomination this year.

Sure! I didn't realized this before! Thank you! :D

What's the name of this iconic song played when Priscilla won the Oscar?
"I Love The Nightlife (Disco Round)" by Alicia Bridges. :)
Sharon -3
I wasn’t sure if this was Angelina Jolie or Sharon Stone at first. But I got it right.
2:40 Shut up! My turn! hahaha :D I didn't get Dave Letterman's joke in the end.
Lizzy Gardiner was wearing a dress made of American Express cards.
