      They might serve a purpose, but should be monitored closely. As I do with the mink on my property. They seem to not disturb the balance, but improve it. But as a principle, introducing non native species in an environment is very risky business for the local wildlife. Non fore seen impacts are common.

    When I bought my property ten years ago it had a three acre pond on it that had a ton of turtles in it. The pond had been there twenty years prior with no issues at all. I killed them out in a matter of a couple of months. After that, underwater grass took over and I’ve been fighting it ever since. I firmly believe that the turtles crawling around on the bottom kept it at bay. If I had it to do over again I wouldn’t kill the first one of them.

The bluegill carcass bait went flying halfway across the pond, the giant hook went into the back of my hand, and the momentum from the jug made sure to give it a nice yank in my skin. I learned that day that you just need to drop them in, and the wind and water do the rest.

      Painted Turtles and Red Eared Sliders in large numbers in small ponds are actually more damaging than the snapping turtles. Not only do they eat a lot more food pound for pound, but they also make their nests closer to the water, causing more erosion and in warmer areas sometimes breeding multiple times each year, increasing the damage to the surrounding areas, as well as digging multiple false nests before actually laying their eggs.

    • @Sodonewithchaos
      @Sodonewithchaos 2 месяца назад +6

      They will eat all the fish eggs if buddy is trying to stock his pond

    • @davidharris453
      @davidharris453 2 месяца назад

      Got any scientific data to back up what you are saying....of course you dont because any studies that have been done find the opposite. Turtles for the most part scavenge the dead and dying thereby improving the health of the pond by protecting it from disease. Their activities improve the fertility of the pond from pruning overflowing water plants to distributing seeds (notice how their diets revolve around plants more than meat) right through to their poop providing fertilizer. Fish eat alot more baby turtles ever year than turtles eat healthy fish. And who stocks their ponds with fish eggs anyway....most people use fingerlings or bigger. And the biggest eroder of pond banks is human activities, most turtle nests are made far from pond banks....up to a mile or more for many species...to avoid the threat of flooding, reduce predation from pond hunters and presumably prevent too much inbreeding. Finally, most people are thrilled by herons and such in their ponds and all they eat are fish of all sizes...and of course baby turtles. So maybe as has been proven a million times removing an apex species from a given habitat, be they predator, omnivore or otherwise is never a good idea.

    Thanks Kendall I think maybe more floats mounted closer to the body of the trap to keep the doors up . Perhaps three or four jugs as floats on each side to hold the doors up when the turtles get on the doors they don't sink. I think your trap and some 12 or so floating planks with them hanging a foot or more over the inside of the trap. the theory is as the turtles come up the planks the back ones might push the front one in to the trap and 4 or 5 feet into the water .. I think I would mount a trail camera to see if the turtles are getting on the trap.. there are different types of traps on RUclips . Year ago we used to trap muskrats with floaters.. As you may know muskrat love walking on floating things. So a piece of 2X4 or a post with hollowed out flat spots so you could set a small leg hold traps on with arms nailed so it floated . The idea is the muskrats gets on the float walks into the trap jumps in the water and the trap chain nailed to the floater will drown it . Could also nail a carrot or two on the floater for bait. good luck

I wasn't trying to prove anyone wrong. I just know what I am dealing with. I have set those traps many times. And if it does work, you are catching 1 turtle at a time, so it's probably not that efficient.

    Personally I don’t like to go hunting because I feel too bad when I shoot something but this is the type of hunting that I’m impressed by. Precise shots on small invasive animals. The smaller the target the more I’m excited by the shot. Nice work mate from Australia.

    Dearest Viktor im keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.
    Just a heads up that Fox can eat dry dog food kibble but dry catfood doesnt have enough of the essential nutrients. Its ok if they eat a little here and there though. Just not as the primary diet.
    If they have a way to boil water at the shelter they could use the rainwater. They can make a filter with the charcoal from burnt wood in the bottom of a bucket with small holes in it and sand on top of it then some straw or dry grass on top of that. It might not look completely clean but after boling itll be safe enough for the animals and people to drink.
    Also if the water heater in the house is a tank they can get water from it out of the spigot on it. I hope this helps some. Sending my love! I donated on anotther video. Ill send more when i can

    Years ago I went to college & lived in E. Oklahoma, and fished every chance I got. If I caught turtles on my line, I had many friends who were Native North American (Cree, Cherokee, Choctaw mostly); they were always happy to take them from me live! Those turtles ended up in soup pots, and the shells were dried and processed then attached to lower legs for rhythm while dancing at powwows.
