I never knew the trick about fighting Taloc during the Ancients battle. I learned several new things in this video, actually. You're a master of D2 for sure, MrLlamaSC.
If you can find a four socket War Scepter (drops in normal) with +3 to Holy Lightning. You can combo it with the Holy Thunder Runeword (Eth+Ral+Ort+Tal) for a massive +6 to Holy Lightning. As well as a bunch of extra weapon damage, 60% lightning res and +5% to max Lightning Res. Well worth it if you want to swap to Holy Lightning early.
I just started playing D2 and i love the magic find. Ive played Borderlands 3 and now its fairly boring getting legendary weapons because its almost every kill. But here in D2 its actually super exciting to finally find a legendary or something. Its refreshing
If chase-level items aren't truly rare, the value is gone. Diablo 2 got this right so many years ago, and Borderlands got it correct in the first game of the series. Pearls were truly valuable - even the ones that weren't good. Gearbox had an awesome balance of loot vs. replayability in BL2. They threw the baby out with the bathwater in 3. The issue: Gearbox wants you to 'beat' their game. Fans of this genre don't want to do that; they want chase items and dedicated loot sources so they can farm content forever. So happy D2R got this correct, recognized what made this game so good, and left it that way. Gearbox really should re-read the playbook.
Well-timed playthrough! I'm currently running through hell offline with a dream zealot myself. It was a fun climb through normal and nightmare with full sigon set + strength/king's grace and holy fire + zeal. Now I just need to find a decent +all res 3os sacred targe for dream shield and I'm fully geared to climb to 99. My grief rolled terribly though which sucks but my dream helm is almost perfect (159def, +15 all res are the only rolls not perfect).
@@harimichaelson5238 I personally wouldn't have made a tesladin offline due to how HR-intensive it is, but I was lucky enough to find 4 Jahs a few days apart and wanted to try it out. I made 2 Enigmas + 2 Dreams, now I'm just missing Bers for a merc infinity or Jah for merc faith.

@@harimichaelson5238 Yeah it does look fun and a decent change of gameplay from hammerdin/foh/smiter. I'm still farming items and 99 with my Mosaic sin but I'll eventually swap to my Tesladin. I was not expecting Jah (multiple at that) to drop so early in my offline journey. I haven't found another one since and still haven't found a single Ber (only Surs).

I will remember this early stat allocation when I run a Paladin from scratch again. I always started building the stats for endgame right away. No wonder I always had a difficult time. Thanks for the inspiration with the holy fire
Zealot is my fav. I love death runeword aswell mixing that with zeal is insane death and a higlords and you get great crushi g blow and deadly strike mumbers. Then a good zealot is doing 11k+ per zeal times 5 with deadly strike a d crushing blow i mean come on
One way I think they could make melee a little more palatable is to redo the "to hit" calculation. I think they should remove the purely level-based component of the equation and instead give monsters and players some amount of base AR and defense per level such that the equation result is the same when looking purely at base values, but now bonus AR and defense will actually have a meaningful impact when dealing with higher level mobs, and not be overshadowed purely by the level difference in the calculation.

3:45 Can someone explain why he said he will only put one point into zeal because he doesn't want to get "locked with the 5 hits"? What is this lock? I'm new to the game and I'm thinking of building a paladin, so I would like to know more about this, I don't want to make a mistake on my build.
propably something to do with animation locks, like you really don't want to use shields at low levels because the block animation can basically stunlock you for a long time if you're "unlucky" and block multiple hits in succession..
@@the_snakelicious if you put points in to it you will hit 5 times per attack. So it sounds good but if you get chilled you are locked into the 5 swing anamation and it can get you killed cuz you can't move or cancel it.
Great guide. Came back to the game after 15+ years and needed to remember things; this guide has made my leveling experience butter smooth so far. My only issue is PoE primacy, and the fact I keep subconciously pressing 5 for my Quicksilver flask... 😂 It's all coming back to me, and it's awesome. Forgot just how good D2 is.
i'm just at the beginning of the video. it's funny that in act I you go to the cave "just to show people what they can do". but i think it's not the only reason you went there. playing d2 after d4 really makes one want to go to levels like the cave and just chill. they never get boring. the hype of new games (or waiting for announced games to be released) give the impression that an old game may be boring. but after a while... a proper game like d2 never gets old :)

I really enjoy D4, but will probably be going back to D2 for 1-2 months after each ladder reset. I do hope that they keep patching/improving D2 as the changes since D2R has come have really brought up a lot of new builds.
I literally started a Zealot a couple weeks ago - I'm kinda stuck at 70 - and don't know how to get into hell - I happened to find a GREAT weapon in normal that's carried me but My struggle is real now without hell gear. Can't wait to see how you get through this! Thanks Llama!
Yea THIS is when it gets really rough - probably the best "item" to look for is the unique butchers pupil (drops across NM). You might be able to also make a hustle weapon (and use concentration aura) if you find a 3os hell base and Ko. Also make the black runeword for weapon swap and use it for the crushing blow against harder monsters/bosses (yea the knockback is a pain - but you'll still kill stuff).
Best holy fire build on a paladin is a ranger with kuko shakaku and razortail. exploding, piercing arrows, every pierce triggers the explosion, every explosion adds holy fire damage. Probably the most fun I ever had playing this game.
Really - fully geared can this stuff clear hell easily? Does it require conviction on your merc? What happens if you give your bow merc a kuko shukaku and the piercing helmet?
@@JJV7243 Well no, it's a fun build. You really get in trouble at Hell act 4, because you can't deal with fire immunes, and since you're not holding a shield you get some real trouble with resistances. a tough merc with infinity can probably block a lot of stuff for you, but I never wanted to invest that much into the build, so I don't really know if it works. I just know that every single paladin i played started out as this build, before I swap to hammer or FoH at around lvl 60.
Love these playthroughs! Been rocking some melee ssf playthroughs lately. Just finished the zealot and am now working on the fury druid. Black runeword and holy fire got me to hell act 3 where it became absolutely miserable. Was able to finish with honor runeword in a nice scepter and fanaticism. Like every melee playthrough - A better weapon would have been nice.

25 years ago when i started playing d2. i had a few zealot pala..combined with vengeance skill and fanaticism..problem was that the only viable item was that hammer with good dmg..and even so you had trouble in act5...then i tried fist of havens to compensate..but no sinergy back then.so low dmg...was a pain..normal and nightmare aint so bad because you ll find some nice 1h ...bit in hell Schaffer hammer was the only choice..i m.curiois what you ll use..runewords were weak back then..
Off topic: What's the best low budget (no Eni/Infy/COH/Forty etc.) char/build for CS runs? Wanna have a good CS runner ... Ideas: -Foh Pala -maybe like Holy shock zealer (?) -Bone Necro Maybe some1 has exp with it. Thx
Hi, MrLama, May I ask you to make a playthrough of paladin by using sacrifice as your primary/main skill in the futur, plz (and using a 2 handed weapon if it's possible to finish a game that way)? I heard sacrifice is deal more damage back than to the monster by dealing big damage. I'd like to see if you can work a way out, and trying one myself in solo after that. Thanks!

I've done some hardcore solo SSF - (sorc and hammerdin)... but maybe i'll see if I can do a melee weapon-based class... probably best one is paladin (thank you holy shield!)
I'm currently leveling a hardcore Barbarian. It's so much fun. Hopefully I can make it to 75-80 so I can use him to MF and run Travincal for runes ETC. If (read When) I die, my next HC char will definitely be a Zealot. I loved the Tesladin, and it's my go to char in softcore.
For your game, i like your idea of meeting up to trade. However, you should also have a fee for those who want to “quest” to retrieve the item, so the seller can pay the fee to host in the bank for the buyer to come and pick up.
I use tyrael's might on my uber tesladin with a soc 5/5 lighting facet allows me to run 2 bk rings for more skill and it having the effect every thing stays dead is helpful farming d keys also cant be frozen and no stat require ments means i can min max more health dex for max block since tele makes the holy shock lag where if you tele enough wont activate and from my experience slightly better than a coh due to able to use lightning facet to lower lightning and boost holy shock more where you can walk most hell difficulty with out a chance to even charge to get an atack off ive had found it also first 3 seasons but only real use ive found for it unless maybe java zon if dont like tele (my case on console due to it not being as good for positioning geting me killed more than not )
Is it still ok to not change the enemy levels if you made an online character? I honestly didn’t know you could even do that even after playing the original since I was little 😂
I'm pretty sure that his rune drops with the Countess were very disappointing because Players 1 doesn't do anything if it's set on the level you are on.
Sad to still see him still play d2. Waiting another decade.. maybe D5 will be better for him. Anyway, great video. A refreshed zeal guide would be awesome!

You flip thru skills so fast I cannot see what's happening. I rewind several times hoping to pause just as you click it, but it's just not happening. i was telling my friends...i might come back to d2 after a few weeks of d4...came back earlier than i thought i would. havent spent the time to figure out why i prefer that game over this, cant just be the nostalgia right?
I watch more D2R content while playing D4 than i do D4. once Im done with the one goal i had for this season which was to defeat uber lilith and reach level 100 with one character im going back to D2 until they make D4 more fun or worthwhile to play. as it stands, doing more in D4 is pointless. having more characters is a pain because of storage and theres way to many annoying CC mechanics in the game.

I always enjoy starting a fresh Zealot in single player. Its a great challenge and a satisfying build when you get him well equipped.

I did that, but zeal takes a toll quickly on weapon durability, and rune words are expensive to repair

I'm thinking of respecing my hammerdin into zeal+dream (tesladin) just need few more bases, but the rune hunting is so time consuming

You can go wherever you want, do whatever you want. Not like d4 you must wait for stupid npc to finish walking.

Are the drop items better in quality by playing at higher level or level 8? Or is this to level up faster?
More drops, not necessarily better drops, but more drops is more chances of better drops.

For your game, i like your idea of meeting up to trade. However, you should also have a fee for those who want to “quest” to retrieve the item, so the seller can pay the fee to host in the bank for the buyer to come and pick up.

I use tyrael's might on my uber tesladin with a soc 5/5 lighting facet allows me to run 2 bk rings for more skill and it having the effect every thing stays dead is helpful farming d keys also cant be frozen and no stat require ments means i can min max more health dex for max block since tele makes the holy shock lag where if you tele enough wont activate and from my experience slightly better than a coh due to able to use lightning facet to lower lightning and boost holy shock more where you can walk most hell difficulty with out a chance to even charge to get an atack off ive had found it also first 3 seasons but only real use ive found for it unless maybe java zon if dont like tele (my case on console due to it not being as good for positioning geting me killed more than not )
Is it still ok to not change the enemy levels if you made an online character? I honestly didn’t know you could even do that even after playing the original since I was little 😂

I'm pretty sure that his rune drops with the Countess were very disappointing because Players 1 doesn't do anything if it's set on the level you are on.

You flip thru skills so fast I cannot see what's happening. I rewind several times hoping to pause just as you click it, but it's just not happening. Maybe a 3 count so we can pause and compare to see if we're on the same page.
That is my only gripe, I love your vid's and you teach me a lot even though I've been playing since you were in elementary school. I have never delve into like you do.

i was telling my friends...i might come back to d2 after a few weeks of d4...came back earlier than i thought i would. havent spent the time to figure out why i prefer that game over this, cant just be the nostalgia right?

I watch more D2R content while playing D4 than i do D4. once Im done with the one goal i had for this season which was to defeat uber lilith and reach level 100 with one character im going back to D2 until they make D4 more fun or worthwhile to play. as it stands, doing more in D4 is pointless. having more characters is a pain because of storage and theres way to many annoying CC mechanics in the game.
