    I just put a 4tb 2280 in mine using one of those adapters from amazon. So far working well! You just have to shave down one of the back posts by a tiny amount, like 1/16th to 1/8th of an inch. I just shaved a bit off with a knife and it was good. Hesitant at first but I need those GBs.

      I think I saw a CPPC Tek title about putting a 2280 drive, that's a pretty neat extra aspect to the modcase I didn't know was possible. Thanks for mentioning it here as well in case an interested viewer sees that info, that's pretty major, especially for the ALLY!

    The silicone button covers are because the mod case has a tolerance error that has up to .3mm of extra clearance between the cross portion of the back button and the button switch on the pwb. This makes it so you can't press the button on the pwb without those silicone pads

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  6 месяцев назад

      Makes sense, glad I swapped them from the original case then. This way it'll prevent flexing over time of the back case. A bit surprised they didn't mention that in their own "how-to" video.

    • @axman2907
      @axman2907 6 месяцев назад

      @GameTechTalk sorry meant to say .3mm not 3mm of extra clearance. I just got mine from Amazon and it came with a little note taped to 4 different mm thickness of silicone pads. Though mine go on that "cross" portion of the back button pedal instead of the button on the pwb. The title of the note says "Adressing Back Button Non-clickable Issue by Improving Fitment Precision." And it goes into detail saying to add the pads if your back buttons no longer click or no logner are pressed with their back shell.
      For some reason I had to use a .1mm silicone pad for my left button but not my right? I'm happy with the product but took some time to figure out the right pad to use.

    Have you considered removing that plastic sheet between the thermal pad and the heat spreader to see if that does anything?

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  9 месяцев назад +1

      Can't say that I have no. Is that a mod that lowers temps on stock ROG ALLYs?

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  9 месяцев назад

      Any chance you could link a mod example? I would think ASUS put it there for a reason. Still, it won't the first time, nor the last that people discover a mod by slightly altering manufacturer design. Thankfully, the modcase still use the plastic sheet and the temps still dropped! Thanks guys@@korkkorken

    I haven't noticed any performance issues related to temps on the ally, have you? Thats one thing I like about them. I have a ROG laptop and the thing sounds like a hair dryer but in a good way. Stays super cool, even if it blows all the papers around on my desk 😅. When its blowing hard you know its working well. None of that alienware nonsense.

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  9 месяцев назад

      No issues at all, that's also part of why I was so surprised to see the idle temps before the mod. So, as I'm sure you know, high temps are not necessarily bad if they can be managed, which has been my experience with the ALLY but I'm definitely happy to see such a drastic jump to my idle temps and you said it all, I'll take ramping fans over throttling any day! 🤣

    you have to remove the black sticker plastic thing its trying to cool the cpu/gpu troth the plastic.
    i play battlefield 2042 stock the temps stayed around 90C to 95C.
    removing the sticker over the intake holes drop the temps down to 84c to 89c.
    with the modcase and fan im hoping to see around 70C hopefully.

    About the fan there could be a peltier cooler inside.

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, I asked the creator of the modcase if they ever tried putting the sticker inside the case and I was told they could but if somehow that cooling fan could fit inside and not detriment the airflow, this could probably be pushed ever further. With that said, it is one of the more efficient aftermarket solutions I've seen for cooling in general. Cheers! :)

      Not supposed to. You could also get foam strips at your local hardware store, they usually sell those for insulation that have adhesive layer and just cut small pieces that you slim down and that should do it. I'm pretty sure it wasn't mandatory to install, in fact, it was definitely a case-by-case approach that was provided on these little foam circles in case the back paddles felt a bit off after installation, but they were supposed to work even without. So yeah, kind of weird they didn't send it with but it's not a must-have and in some cases it's pointless even. Cheers

      @@GameTechTalk okay noted! Yeah i looking for the sticker and thought it was stuck at the bottom of the but nope. Couldn't find it. So far my Ally is working fine without the sticker. 👍🏽 Thanks again!

    Am I tripping or did that do just put the cooler on without taking the plastic inside out like literally put the thermal pad right on top of the plastic that could melt that plastic if you think

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  6 месяцев назад

      My guy, thank you for reminding me ahahah! Someone else mentioned that when the video had just released. I guess it didn't cause any harm cause that ALLY is working double time and yet nothing happened, however, I did leave it on and forget to take it off when that other person pointed it out too. I will open it right back up and get it out right now. Thanks!

    Can the kickstand be removed? Does it leave the ROG Ally with the same profile for 3rd party cases?

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  8 месяцев назад

      It can be removed. It’s not a hot swap so effectively, you need to undo the backplate to remove two screws that lets you remove it after which it’s like the original backplate minus the cooling aspect.

      Look, I get what you’re saying, attack my stance all you want, I did not understand either. Why? Because it did not make sense. Now was my ROG ALLY faulty with an underlying issue that it was managing beforehand? I don’t know but it sounds plausible to me. But I made sure to address it in the video.

    In no way whatsoever does this reduce your temps by 30. Not even close. Not in your wildest dreams dude. Physically not possible according to the law of thermal dynamics and the thickness of that back vent plate/thermal pad.

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  8 месяцев назад +2

      You know what’s funny? I agree with you. Yet the numbers showed me what they showed me, hence why I addressed how abnormal this seemed in the video. And the worst is, when I benchmarked those idle temps, twice mind you with long duration intervals, the system was sitting for nearly an hour each time. Have you watched the video? Have I not made it clear that I doubt the mod case is the reason why but rather the pressure on my APU was possibly faulty?
