I used to have some chickens and my dog absolutely adored them and when she heard the chickens in the video here ears went up she started wagging her tail and looked so happy.

I also agree with Matt, if a predator is hunting your animals, killing them is the only thing that makes sense(minus relocation). Farmers have always killed wolves and foxes that endanger their land and this is no different.
Yay, extinct wolves in most of europe, only recently returning and again they cry like babies "uh the big bad wolf!" and the hogs destroys so much without an predator hunting them down. What farmers does is not always a good argument for doing it today...

In Idaho we call pests like raccoons and foxes mini Coyotes. They are a pain and its encouraged to shoot them.

It's just the nature of social media. They probably don't have the proper context so they get the wrong message. People are prone to overreaction these days. That being said, sometimes people say things that they probably shouldn't and express thoughts they normally wouldn't.

At least foxes are easier to deal with than Coyotes.
People don’t understand why hunting is a thing either. They aren’t taught or told that balancing populations helps keep other animals alive.
Not only controlling populations, but to hunt for meat. Which animal do people think had the better life? The one you bought from the butcher, which likely lived its life in confined quarters, or the boar that was hunted. It seems hypocritical to buy meat from the butcher but at the same time be judgemental towards those that do their own dirty work.
Nature can balance itself trust me.. it has done so well before us, and will do so long after us. If you are not hunting for food, and doing so only for "fun" or "sport" you are a troubled human being who enjoys killing and who I wouldnt want to be around. But hey, to each his own 👍

I am a “mostly” vegan and I would have done the same thing. If you have animals, you are responsible to care for them. That means not allowing a predictor to rip them limb from limb. Well done Matt, if relocation was not an option I would have shot him too. (Guess that makes me a realist instead of vegan 😂) I totally appreciate your perspective on hunting as well. I was born and raised in the city. But my grandparents lived on a farm, so I know the difference between hunting for sport and hunting for food. It's really important to keep your food sources safe

The fox is doing what comes natural. Here in Florida they burrow holes into the pasture. Your horses and cows can break a leg very easily and die or you put them down. If you don't relocate them or kill them, you'll have multiple dens of these foxes on your property. Cattle ranches in Florida hate them. The purebred race horses in Ocala horse farms, ask them what they think about mr. Fox 🤔.

I had a coyote years ago doing the same thing.
I did NOT let it go, and used it as a message to the rest of them. I dropped it on the trail they used to get onto the property, and marked MY TERRITORY.
Once found, they got the message. I could hear them every night, but didnt see another one on the property for a year.
"Hitting" the one, saved 35 chickens and who knows how many coyotes.
If not removed, they will kill a chicken every 2 days.

In Australia foxes are introduced and there a pest so there is a $10 bounty on there head in Victoria.
Here in the states the hide used to be worth about $40 to 60 depending on the shape. I remember in the late 80s as a kid making a killing trapping animals. I'm talking 8 or 9 years old getting a check for close to a grand.

I grew up on a farm and when I was 8, raccoons killed my silkies (they were obviously overpopulated).So every season I would trap them,I can't remember how many I've trapped total but I know I got quite a few. It's not always wrong to shoot animals when they are overpopulated, or they can spread all kinds of disease that can kill even suburban dogs and cats. I do agree you shouldn't kill an animal that is no harm to you, but you shouldn't judge people for trying to protect there livestock. :) (I didn't mean to offend anybody in this comment I just wanted to share my opinion)

I had the same issue. A 4 year battle and 40+ chickens lost i finally got him. He was very good at avoiding traps. Fortunately he got complacent and was hanging out in my yard one day. He didn't outrun a 5.56
