Did you visit kogen onsen hiking trail (south of sounkyo)? From what i have seen online the autumn colours are spectacular.

The name doesn't ring a bell I'm afraid, so I guess I didn't. Hokkaido has to be one of the best places in Asia for autumn colours though - amazing!
