    Colder weather is settling in for more than an overnight stay. We're not talking sleeping bags...it has brought a UHAUL with it and it plans to stay for a while. Luckily, the "cold weather" in Virginia is nothing compared to what I used to get when we lived in Michigan. This is my first winter with the Koi pond in VA and I'm hoping that winter maintenance won't require too much work. It may freeze for a few days, but nothing like the thick ice-breaking days of yore. :)
    I dug this one about 36-40" deep and should have plenty of room for them to hangout all winter long. However, the fish in the stock tanks wouldn't be as lucky and need to be moved. One tank had comets in it that were originally from the pond and were easy to put back in. The fancy goldfish in the other tank were going to move with one of the tanks to the garage, but it's not ready for that yet. One option was to put them in the pond since the koi and comets are moving a bit more slowly with the colder water. The other option - which I ended up going with for now - was to put them in my 40G breeder goldfish tank...that already had 4 goldfish in it. Overstock police can leave comments below. This may be where they will stay all winter, but I did setup my garage in a way that I could accommodate a 100G stock tank...but currently have a dog cage in it for my parents' dog that we were watching, but now will be keeping. So I have some rethinking to do. Anyway, that's the basic update. Hope you enjoy it.
    Feel free to ask any question, give any tips, or just leave a comment. I try to respond to most. If you like the videos, please let me know by hitting the thumbs up button.
    Have fun fish-keeping.
    -Tony

      Do you have snow during winter?

      It changes year to year. Usually we'll get one or two days of snow. But it doesn't last.

      I ask because the process of overwintering the pond and some videos of before, during and after would be great informational videos.

      Great to hear from you! I thought about doing a heater in the stock tanks, but figured I could save money by moving the fist or the tank into the garage. Then I could let them winter in there without the need for anything but the air pump for the sponge filters.

      Hi Tony.. That's great.. I figured I bring mine in and keep them in two large tanks.. run HOB filters on both.. would be no more heating the pond for hydro.. we'll see. I will still have to drain the pond and clean it out in the spring so I'm not sure if it will be less work or more.. the one good thing is that opens up my two tanks in the basement for other projects! =D It's so nice chatting hope all is well with you and yours. ♥♥

    Love your design and style. Do you have an online tutorial with materials list anywhere? Wondering what type of stone those rectangle pavers are, and living in Tennessee curious how the Koi do over the winter? Im going to try and build this exact design, especially love that modern take on the waterfall!

    Hi I had a question how do you keep your Pond from overflowing?

    • @hooktherapy
      @hooktherapy  6 лет назад

      Not sure what you mean. Are you asking about when it rains?

      Creative Fish Studio yeah when it rains does it overflow. Or does it not rain much in your area?
