You are a complete joy to watch, love all your recipes and my 6 year old daughter can't get enough of your videos plus she's been far more open to trying new dishes. She helps in the kitchen :)
My grandma made hers with drop dumplings by mixing 2 cups of bisquick with 2/3 cup of milk. She also added celery, carrots, and lemon pepper seasoning. Try it, its good!
Hello Sara from a number of your fans here, in the UK in Yorkshire. Just a quick note to say we are all so relieved that you recovered from your recent ordeal with regards to your health.. I personally have friends in a number of states and am acutely aware how you folks do not have an NHS... and what that truly entails... Anyway, we totally love what you are doing and love love love how you do it! You are a diamond and an inspiration. Thanks you so very much, we are watching!! 🇬🇧🇺🇸👍🏾🌈
Please don't ever stop making your videos and I am praying that you stay healthy. I just love chicken and dumplings, especially the way you prepared it💜
Sara ,my mom made this recipe the same way. I was so saddened that I never wrote down the recipe and I happened upon you and this recipe thank you so much for bringing a bit of my mom back to me , you have a fan for life
Hi Sara, great looking dumplings, I make drop dumplings all the time as I don't have the patience or the room to do the rolled out kind. ;-) Here's a tip someone told me about 15 or 20 years ago when making chic and dumplings, before you add your liquid to the flour add in some poultry seasoning (to your tastes) and mix it in the flour well. It really kicks the dumplings up a notch, as you have a chicken flavor on the inside of the dumpling as well as on the outside.
This is a great way to make such a comfort dish. I use a little chicken broth, eggs, flour, salt, pepper, and a little dried parsley in my drop dumplings :)
Hey Sara! I've been eating chicken and dumplings since I can remember, it's one of my all time favorite dishes!! I have yet to find anyone that can beat my grandma and mom's recipe. Lol I'm originally from Alabama and have been in Texas since 1980. It just kills me to see people use tortilla's or canned biscuits... if they're not from scratch then forget it. Haha We basically do ours the same way but put onions, carrots and celery in our broth flavor and only use white meat, we just don't care for dark meat. Next time you make them try adding a big can of cream of chicken and see how y'all like it, it adds another creamy element and adds a depth of flavor that's so delicious!! A tip that'll help people is to NOT over cook or boil the dumplings too long and hard because they will disappear on ya and always drop them one at a time!! Really enjoy all your down home recipes, there's nothing like good ole comfort food. Stay safe...Big ((Hugs)) and Love from Texas!! xo : )
My mammy always cooked dumplings with Irish stew, the dumplings would be as big as golf balls and so fluffy and delicious. The liquid would have to be bubbling and only 2 or 3 at a time.
Christopher Daniel The wicked shall perish ~ I laid you down at the foot of the cross and asked Jesus to touch your Heart and give you some Love ~ Know that you are Loved Christopher xo
No I do not wish she has a restaurant, the reason being is I would be there night and day, eating and eating and eating. I would be a 1000lbs. By the way she cooks I think she was raise a southern gal and those southern gals know how to cook just like Mrs. Sara.
I ordered a sewing mat years ago so good to make and cut dough on. Then can pick up mess dust off outside hold under shower ,dry . I just clean it next time with lemon juice 😁
Another one of my favorite dish too make and eat!! I However once I take meat off bones l put chicken on platter and put in oven too keep warm I make dumplings the same way and I scoop my dumpling dough and place in broth too cook with lid on and heat turned down and cook for 45 min Hello from Canada!!
husband prefers drop dumplings over rolled he says more bite :-) I as well use the broth in them instead of milk..looks yummy tho.love your videos..!!!
Sara your voice is so soothing. I am so glad you came up on my list. I’m really enjoying watching you. Who taught you to cook?? You’re dumplings look amazing! Yum
That's how I make my and dumpling too but I use chicken breast because I am not a fan of dark meat but it still turns out so very good. I am going to have to use a whole chicken cut into pieces because I know it will add so much more flavor and make homemade chicken broth to use because when it comes to chicken and dumplings man my hubby loves them lol. I also prefer the rolled dumplings to the drop dumpling. Also, try some blackberry dumplings they are so good.
HI Sara one of my familys favorite meals!! However, I don't make them like that I use ice-cream scoop and drop in very rich broth put lid on pot and cook for half an hour!! I don't shredd chicken l leave thighs whole and transfer too oven too keep warm Thwy are delish
You should leave plenty of room in the pot for dumplings. They float to the top. Put your lid on turn the heat down to a gentle boil and don't stir them for 20-30 minutes. That way they come out cooked like biscuits inside. :)
I make drop dumplings but theyre way smaller...i have the dough on a plate and scoop about a quarter tsp of dough into the pot at a time, while i have the plate sitting on the edge of the pot while i hold it... it goes fast!!! also i use eggs in my dough and chicken broth. I dont make as much dough as you do either, but yours looked pretty good, i just prefer less dumplings in mine plus i have carrots and some celery as well. 👍
Aw, my hubby does the same, he being raised with those floating doughballs. He calls it chicken noodle soup, argh! Lol My 1914 Ark Mom had a certain flair making her chx&dumplings. I had not come upon the floating biscuit kind until meeting him. To this day we have both kinds! Lol ♥️Alaskan Eskimo, 2020. ~Variety is the spice of life
So, I noticed that she calls a cooking pot a “kettle” sometimes (2:20 for example). Is there a reason for this? I always thought a kettle is something you use to boil water to make tea. Am I missing something?
When a cooking pot is called a kettle it's usually referring to the type of big pot normally used for soups, stews etc. It's an old fashioned word based on those big iron kettles (cauldrons) that could be used over a fire, on a wood fire stove, etc. Pot is the more common word and yeah, a kettle is also the word used for those kettles that boil water but they're not really common in the US ..more coffee drinkers and people who do have kettles usually have electric ones.
Looks so good!!! I watched this video a while ago but I never finished it and I totally forgot to come back to watch all of it. I'm so glad I did now! Have you ever froze the leftover chicken and dumplings?
Thanks for your vids. I would suggest offsetting the chicken and dumplings with some greens, like brocolli. It’s all about balance. It’s not like we look forward to eating it but it makes your body feel better.
CherYl Degraffenreid Hi! Yes, once you place the dumplings into the broth bring the mixture to a boil, then turn the heat down to a simmer and put the lid on the pot for approximately 20-25 minutes. The dumplings are going to double in size so make sure you have a large enough pot to accommodate all the dumplings once they're cooked.
That's cause people don't know how to make them the right way, including Sara. The dough gets dropped into boiling liquid and then a lid gets put on immediately. No stirring. Then you get the lightest dumplings imaginable, cooked all the way through and no gluey texture. No pasty, soggy mess. No doughy clumps of ... dough.
You are a complete joy to watch, love all your recipes and my 6 year old daughter can't get enough of your videos plus she's been far more open to trying new dishes. She helps in the kitchen :)

I make chicken and dumplings. My favorite. I never thought of using a pizza wheel. Duh. What a great idea.
Carol Yarbrough I use pizza wheel also for my noodles.
You need a tripod so you could set it on the counter faceing your pot and film hands free
Yeah, I'd liked to have seen the drop dumplings going in.
Oh Lord that looks delicious !

Its spelled "kettle" but most of us say Kittle in West Virginia. It just means a great big stock pot.
Lovely!
Om nom nom! I love Chicken n' Dumplings :D Looks yummy!
Looks so good!!! I watched this video a while ago but I never finished it and I totally forgot to come back to watch all of it. I'm so glad I did now! Have you ever froze the leftover chicken and dumplings?
no i've never frozen leftover, but if ya try it let us know.
Can you substitute butter for shortening in the dumplings? Or should I go buy shortening?
Cream cheese work well instead of shorting

Good lord Sara it looks like a flour bag blew up 😂
I really like you Sara, but dumpling look and taste like glue to me
