Here I am in the winter of my life, on my way out.... learning...dogs have been the one constant throughout. I've had some really good ones, I have a pretty good one right now...if I can help one dog, one person through Uncle Stonnie's video it is a WIN! Thank you Uncle Stonnie . ..love seeing real dogs with the best real life training program EVER! 💞🐩
This is such a great reminder. For dog training, but really for any subject matter when you compare yourself to what you see on social media. Appreciate it. ❤️
Stonnie, you have been such a positive influence on all of my dog training. It's always refreshing coming back and seeing you doing the same sorts of things with the same sorts of dogs always with a little different context but the same sorts of advice. (Wow what a mouth full). You've helped me lower my expectations in perfecting "tricks" and "competition style" obedience, while elevating my expectations that a dog can go do fun stuff without liability to others, the dog, and yourself. Thanks Stonnie
Honesty, fairness, transparency, so much of that is missing from life these days. It seems to be more and more of deception, image, and popularity. I appreciate that you do what you do, and do it while wearing regular working man's attire, not some off-the-wall fashion label that looks like you got dressed by a circus clown. God bless you, Stonnie.
Such a wonderful message. Be easy on yourself, be easy on your dog. No “being” is perfect! Perfection is not real! And relationships are no exception. I find that many people view dogs as objects and possesions and the thought that you have a relationship with them is very foreign. ❤❤❤
I, myself, love your videos, I love the absolute honesty that you put into your videos. I watch religiously and you seem to break things down so anyone can understand, I want to let you know that you have absolutely made a huge difference in my life and have taught me a lot. I have been able to transfer your knowledge to my own dogs. I have Great pyrenees, and have trained 2 as service dogs for my wife and myself sometimes, for mobility. They're a different breed lol, as you know, and you helped me understand that not all dogs learn the same. It has been a true blessing in my life and I want you to know that. I share all of your stuff lol because I know you can help other folks as well. Thank you, and if there's ever anything I can help you with, please don't hesitate to ask. Bless you and your family.
Thanks for bringing these points up! As a human, I'm highly "pattern reliant" and I don't have a "resilient temperament. " I go to pieces if my schedule gets out of whack. My dog is a shepherd/Rottweiler mix who is far more resilient than I am, but I wonder if our highly-structured life may be a disservice to him. He doesn't get much opportunity to practice his resiliency because I avoid new environments and different situations for my own sake.
Good point Stonnie. In a fishing video, they catch a five pound bass on every cast, and their Lin never gets tangled. It is the same with edited dog training videos. In real life, there are more variables.
Been watching for years waiting for the right time to get a dog. I've learned so much from your videos. I hope to get one soon now that i have a yard and my own home. Looking to getting a boykin as a kayak and hunting buddy.
That's so true, you really have to know your dog and how they act in different situations. They're not robots. I'd love to see a video with the Elkhound and what your experience has been with them.
FYI, you inspired me to build a mini course by my barn we climb around on most mornings. Even my husband who is not the trainer in the family can walk them through it now. Thanks!
Now I want to know who was your one perfect dog, of course. And why was this dog so perfect? Did they have the most talent for learning tricks? Could they go out into any environment in any circumstances without letting anything ruin their mood? Was it the dog that just had the best balance between being super obedient and loyal on the one end and also thinking for themselves and alerting you to things that you might have missed on the other hand? Was it the dog that will always get along with every other human and animal, or is it the dog who knows just how to make you feel like their best friend? Was it the dog that formed the strongest connection with you and was the most in tune with you? And if so, was that purely because the dog was so willing to form that connection or just as much because you were so open to it? You have my interest now, Stonnie. That's the things I really want to know, right there.
@StonnieDennis thank you so much for your honesty and your commitment to help others have their dogs live their best life. My 11 month old golden Champ watches the You Tube videos everytime your voice comes on or he hears the whistle. Wish I lived by Kentucky I would send him to you. The best part is you love Jesus and the Lord is shining through your training Blessings Donna & Champ
Great video, and I'm glad to hear not every dog has to be perfect for everyone. My 13 year old mini schnauzer is just about perfect: low energy, doesn't destroy anything, cute as a bug, but boy does she not like kids (except her own) and barks like crazy if a stranger comes onto our property. The barking wouldn't be so bad but my husband is a pastor and it surely doesn't seem welcoming when a small dog can't stop barking at you.
What's perfect for you isn't perfect for everyone. I like an energetic, big tough all weather dog to hike and walk with. One that is also sweet and kind is perfect for me. I have a B&B in my house. My boy loves it when strangers come to visit. Also important to me. So a Golden Retriever or Lab are good choices for me.
@@debbiesmith2207 funnily enough, we're thinking of getting a lab next time around. I'd really love a dog that loves everyone, short coat bc frankly, I'm tired of going to the groomers every three months. I think a lab from a show line would be perfect, but yes, it would be very different from what we have now!
When I worked in film and advertising with dogs I learned Proofing…so important especially when they were paying a lot for the dog to do this and that….and the right choice of dog..My Jack Russell’s were foolproof..for a ball or food they did not care if it was hot, cold noisy..my retrievers were solid friend.y, food motivated…..we never accepted a job we had not prepped for or one with the wrong type of dog..
Stonnie - I've been watching your channel for years and always appreciate your perspective and approach, thank you! In fact, you've got me planning to start a small business boarding dogs and 'rehabilitating' shelter dogs when I retire from active duty military in a couple years. A gee-wiz question for ya: do you think dogs get jealous of other dogs? For example: if one dog has to stay off of furniture or outdoors while another in the same household sleeps wherever they want, will the first dog be bitter and jealous of the second (like people tend to be)?
This video came at the perfect time. Yesterday l doing loose leash walking and he did great and today it was like we never worked on it ever. I ended getting really frustrated wondering why this was. We have been training 4 months now on obedience And loose leash walking so would have all the wrinkles would have been ironed out, so this video opened my eyes about real life training.
Is my dog perfect? Almost. Its Not because he learns super fast or never pulls on the leash! Its because he is the kindest sweetest soul I know! He's also pretty athletic. All of this is important to me. It cant be said enough to choose a dog breed that suits YOUR LIFESTYLE AND YOUR PERSONALITY. Ill also mention I have a B&B in my house so I need a dog who loves intruders! My previous dog was a Malinois. She was super smart and athletic. Although I was able to control her around my guests it was stressful for both of us. Im sure she thought I was crazy always putting us in harms way, letting all those strangers come in the house! Most of my guests thought she was beautiful and had no idea how much she wanted to run them off! " Watch this" wasnt a problem as she loved having a task to perform! That did not make her perfect for me.
Is that Hank? Hank hanging out with the other dogs. Hank all calm and friendly. Hank lounging around in the pool. What a change in Hank! When does Hank get to go home?
My daughter's border collie was her best dog and her worst dog, depending on the day. I agree there are no perfect dogs. We had two lovely yellow labs but they could be real rascals when they wanted to be.
Stoning don’t read all these comments man. If I was not so far away I would send my girls to you because I like your methods of obstacles and your type of socialization. I am not a good dog trainer so online videos do not work for me lol. I can teach sit and go potty and that’s about it. Usually my dogs when raised alone by me are calm with people and confident. But my last two raised with my partner of 9 years are both hyper and neurotic. Sorta like she makes me! Keep doing good work.
Thank you both. Irish setter/golden mix makes sense. I’ve never seen that mix before. Whatever he is, he’s lovely, and seems to have a nice disposition. Maybe Stonnie will speak about him.

This is a very good message for people to hear Stonnie. Great content as always :)
Your videos are always so packed with useful info.
Stonnie, you are a very special man, not just for the beautiful dogs but for us ,the dog owners. 😇😇😇

"Dog training is an art!!" I could not agree more. That's why it is so important to find the right training program for you & your puppy.
To add to this, I heard the saying, ‚understand the science to master the art.’
OMG the dog relaxing in the pool is so cute! 🥰 It’s at the 4:30 point in the video.
Ahh a Norwegian Elk Hound?!? We had two growing up, love them! Thank you for your amazing videos!

I greatly enjoy your videos and have gained alot of valuable info. Have you any experience training Tibetan Terriers? Id love to see a video perhaps.
Love the content, Stonnie! Where did you get your suspenders/bags from?

At what age do you start dogs/puppies on the small challenges course?
what breed is Moose the red dog you walked in the beginning of video please - by chance is that dog for sale?
Hey Stonnie 🤗
I’m sitting here thinking you must hit your 10,000 steps within the first hour of your day! 😄
what happens when you need to set the clock back or forward?
Hank!
Yeah I called this guy for an appointment for training. I’m getting a new puppy. He didn’t return my call.
That’s his business model.

What sort of breed is Moose? (The young red dog with longish ears).
wild guess - Irish Setter?
If I remember correctly, he’s an Irish setter/golden retriever mix - beautiful dog!
Thank you both. Irish setter/golden mix makes sense. I’ve never seen that mix before. Whatever he is, he’s lovely, and seems to have a nice disposition. Maybe Stonnie will speak about him.
Wasn’t he a “fox red” retriever?
@@edwarddurkin6635 fox red is a new color for a labrador retriever...dont think this pup is a lab.
Your dog training isn't run through video editing like that on social media is. That's the simple truth.
I think you were a little bit rambling at the end, but otherwise liked the video!
No script equals a bit of rambling…
