I have an Infiniti M series (which has the exact profile of the G80) and feel that the G90 is a bit bigger than what I need. I rarely have passenger in the back seat anyway.
I drive a Genesis and I love it. I've owned many German brands all the comments about depreciation people need to educate themselves. Try returning a 3 year old Mercedes Benz E class to the lot after 3 years and see what you get for it...jus saying.
I drive the 2016 Genesis (G80). It has 48k miles and is 100% flawless at this point. It has the Tech package with nearly all the available features minus heads up, automatic trunk and it has the polished wood grain instead of open pore grain. I get about 19mpg daily and got 29.9 on the one trip we took. I also have a 2020 Santa Fe Limited 2.2T Quartz color with about eight hundred miles on it. My wife and I both like them about equally. The SUV gets about the same mpg and sits higher so it is easier in traffic to see around. The Santa Fe has video camera display for lane changes which is lacking in the Genesis. All in all - German cars better look out! These are great vehicles.
The g80 sport is one of the many dream cars I’m interested in. If only the g80 sport improved its fuel economy, lost weight, added reverse autonomous braking, and added folding rear seats, I’d take it in a heartbeat.
I've driven one of these AWDs in the snow and it's the best in the snow of anything of driven, including quattro. Admittedly, I've never really stressed X-drive in the snow but you can either have it just claw along feeling nice and safe or do glorious drifts for miles.
I've had 3 Hyundai/Kia products over the last 6 yrs (2 Sonata 2.0T's and currently Kia Optima SXT). Had 2 major issues covered under warranty with one (2011). After that, no major problems with powertrains. I'd rather spend 57K for a polar ice G80 sport than anything offered new in the class. Simply because of the predicted and perceived reliability from my experience, and the value. It's sexy as Hell (to me), safe, fast enough, and roomy (I'm 6'3, 250lbs). However, I'm in no need of a car, so I can wait a year to avoid the depreciation hit all cars suffer from when new. It makes money sense. I'm anxious to get one so I can experience the upgrade in space, handling, and ride quality compared to my Optima's bumpy and low sitting ride. Thanks for the reviews Sofyan! I love your format.
I have a 2015 Hyundai Genesis 3.8. And all though I get most of all the same great qualities as the 2018 G80 sport, there is some outstanding differences. I test drove the Sport this past summer and that 3.3 twin turbo makes a big difference. I thought my car had plenty of power, and I guess it does. Still I was jealous of how the Sport took off like a rocket compared to mine. What I really liked is the subtle design changes they made to the Sport. Not only is it sexier looking, those changes nke it a lot more aggressive looking. I seen so called glimpses of the new G80 and just from that I have to say I find the 2018 model more appealing. Which is good for me as later this year I will be looking to trade my car in. And the G80 sport will be one of the 3 I'm looking at. The other 2 are the G70 and the Stinger.
I find traditional gauges to be very elegant.. someday, I believe luxury cars will go back to it because it’ll be an exclusive thing that’s pricier to design since technological advancement is so out there these days.
Yes another outstanding review, Sofyan. And loved the outtake burnout at the end. Excellent presentation style and great insights as always. I definitely want to test drive one. Cheers!
Just wanna give a shoutout to Sofyan. The reviews have always been great but this video was especially good because in the past my only complaint was that you would talk so fast and sometimes trip over your own words, but this time around you spoke slower and sounded much more confident. The little things matter! Good job dude.
How some things change... I have been driving the car for 3 weeks now and it would appear the previous owner screwed up the transmission and caused other issues under the hood. The dealership I purchased from invoked the 2 month / 2000 mile purchase warranty which over rides my factory warranty. I really don't understand that... Instead of fixing the car which looks like over $10k in repairs they are giving me a refund. I have argued this is not what I want to the dealer and to Hyundai/Genesis corporate and gotten no ware. :(
The heated steering wheel thing makes sense, if you get the RWD model and you live in an area that gets cold, chances are you won't take it out in the winter otherwise you'd get the AWD model.
iTzMark671 Genesis have a totally different engineering, developing and design team that specifically work on Genesis vehicles. So how can Hyundai get the praise based on it being the parent company. Do you give Toyota praises for every Lexus vehicle on the road? No you don't.
Awesome review, Sofyan! When I reviewed the G80 Sport a couple months ago I was absolutely astonished by how much it offered as STANDARD EQUIPMENT. Consequently, what you see is pretty much what you get... With the exception of minor options (AWD/RWD or Color Choices). The amount of standard safety technology on the G80 Sport is pretty praiseworthy, as well. By Genesis packaging the G80 Sport is this manner, it makes this vehicle undeniably a pretty solid player in its class. Personally, I find the G80 Sport to be the ideal sedan for those looking for sleek styling, a comfortable interior, and "affordable" sporty/luxury attributes. Fuel economy is pretty low (due to the absence of any 'Auto Start/Stop System', 'Cylinder Deactivation System' and the overall heavier weight). Believe it or not, the weight difference between the G80 Sport and the G90 with the same 3.3T engine is only about 100lbs!!! With all that said, you did a great job displaying the performance and features of the 2018 G80 Sport. From one auto enthusiast to another, keep it up, Sofyan!
DriveAndBeDriven I completely agree with you. Recently test drove to G80 and also the Volvo S 90 T6. I actually preferred to G 80 over the S 90. I thought the S 90 was louder on the highway, the engine noise was loud and rough and the Sensus infotainment was extremely confusing and dangerous to use while driving. It’s too bad the g80 sport doesn’t have good lease deals like its competitors.
+Archangel 28 it looks nothing like those cars. nothing. lexus had an identity crisis up until three years ago. this car was designed in 2015 as a hyundai thats why. its being redesigned next year. they are unique to their own. all car companies start out by benchmarking when making premium cars.
+Archangel 28 you knowvnothing about cars. every car professional knows about lexus. all japaneese cars went through it. the genesis looks nothing like the sonata. the sonata copied the fluidic sculpture 2.0 that was first implemented by the genesis sedan. secondly all japaneese cars and even german cars copy other manufacturers. the fluidic sculpture was copied by mercedes heavily after the 2011 sonata came out. and the genesis sedan uses better materials than other cars it cpmpetes with. from the high strength steel down to the electrical diodes. its not 2005 anymore.
Good review (as usual). One criticism. You don't need AWD to put power down (see every RWD car that makes plenty of power including but not limited to all the sedan versions of AMG's, M series, and Hellcat's. AWD on this car is for selling to those who want power while still being able to drive in areas with lots of different weather (snow, rain etc...)
Get over the Hyundai thing, already. Jesus, nobody refers to Lexus as Toyota, er, Lexus anymore, do they? Genesis became its own brand in 2017 so call it by its proper name please.
@Ryan Lane that's a bunch of dog shit then we should call Infiniti Nissan, Lexus Toyota,Lincoln mercury, Ford,Cadillac ,GM,Chrysler, Dodge and as for BMW and Audi, Mercedes are nothing but taxi cab in the European countries if you wanna be technical about it
This car looks is just amazing. I currently have a BMW 2013 528i with only 35,000 miles, but I have been so tempted to swap to a G80 in white. But I agree, I lease might be the best way to take upon the depreciation value.
I've enjoyed all of your reviews this year. Hopefully you are planning on a top 5 best and worst cars of the year video again. I really liked the one you did last year
In terms of value/equipment for the money, they kinda are up there already. I think the interior materials are where they really need to improve. It's certainly nice to drive the G80, and overall the materials used inside are good. However, there are a few plastics here and there, more so than in the competition. The wood is pretty nice already however.
Wade Higgins I have a g80 htrac an is an amazing car .in the snow is a machine not 1 problem sound system is awesome engine is fast overall love it just whait till they come out with there performance to smoke this German an I love me some M an amg
I had a 2012 sonata hybrid for awhile and then settled for a 2015 Genesis ultimate. Great deal, the price has depreciated enough to afford one. Best part about it is that the design really hasn't changed much in comparison to a 2019 and 2015 so it looks definitely new!
I love your reviews, but I disagree about not needing for AWD. The G80 when in Sport mode is just like Quattro in that it drives all 4 wheels all the time. I have driven FWD, RWD and AWD, SW-AWD and Quattro and I love the way Quattro feels under acceleration as you don't feel like you are being pushed or pulled the car just goes.
I’m considering a Genesis G80 with the 3.8L... the new Camry is also being considered... I lease vehicles but this Genesis is definitely a vehicle you’d want to lease.
This may not be worth spending 58kish new (even with big dsicounts) but it would be a fantastic value as a lease return 3 years from now given the depreciation and longer warranty compared to the German competion. You can buy a used fully loaded (~55k MSRP)2016 Genesis 3.8 sedan for less than $35k already now and I think this will also follow the pattern.
The exterior looks great and the interior is decent, if a bit generic. The thing is, most people (myself included) wouldn’t cross shop it, against the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series or Mercedes E Class. Cross shop it against Acura, Lexus, Cadillac or even Buick, then you’re talking...Congrats on the engagement!
I love this car. I've been following this car since it first hit market. Definitely, going to be my first car, lol. I don't care, I'm getting this car, lol.
I really like this car! Sat in one at a recent car show - right next to an E-class, and it compared very nicely (especially on price). One thing I can't get over, however is the switchgear (especially on the steering wheel). It's EXACTLY the same white-text on black plastic as in my girlfriend's 2017 Hyundai Elantra. Really....? C'mon guys...
G80 Sport for 56k that gets 5.2 secconds from 0-60. Weighs 4500LBS. Lexus GS350 Fsport comparably optioned for 58k that gets 5.6 seconds from 0-60. Weighs 3900LBS. very similar straight line performance, Much better handling from Lexus GS Chassis (Proven by all automotive reviews and articles and benchmarks) and 600LBS lighter. And you get Lexus brand prestige with resale value and reliability. I personally take Lexus anyday
cant wait for the G70, I believe it'll be based off the KIA Stinger platform, or a higher end Sonata with the 3.3T engine and Genesis exterior stylings.
Man, I love your videos. I just find myself watching all your reviews regardless of what car you are reviewing. You and carwow are my 2 favorite review channels on youtube. :)
I love mine. The awd is great in the snow. But the customer service in Canada is pretty terrible. Had some major engine problems which Hyundai Canada completely botched and the car was in over 20 times
🔥🔥🔥I thought I wanted the acura tlx a-spec but I think in two years once I decide to get rid of my 2011 tl which I love to death I think I might go with the g80 sport
If he doesn’t give that laugh when he’s testing the speed you know it sucks. Listen carefully when he talks speed in this video he gives an extra giggle in this one so you know it’s fast.
TVinmyEye lol yea ik. Personally wouldn't buy a coupe since it's aftermarket is so small, and reliability is questionable. Then again, seeing a few friends with them doing donuts and burnouts says otherwise lol
MaxSpeed my last car was the 2013 Genesis Coupe 2.0T, and it was a blast to drive, no issues whatsoever. But it was kinda heavy though. If you’re looking to mod than yeah, The GC does have a limited aftermarket.
TVinmyEye for sure man. No doubt tho I'm sure it's still a fun car as you said! I'm looking at getting an m4, and an s2k as a project car. When i think of mods, I think of changing everything from front to rear, making my car completely my own. I think the s2k would be perfect for that
Hi Sofyan, I love your reviews and need some advice. I am looking between G80 3.8 or ES350. Performance, handling, reliability, comfort, quieter cabin and ride quality are the main aspects I like to know between those. Thanks in advance.
The reason why its lagging is in the sport there is a 3 tier esc setting. You have to hold the button down for 3 secomds to fully disengage everything. Youll get 4.7 second 0-60;times and the tail will swing out as much as you want
quality review as usual..when do you think you can get hand on with a G70?? maybe even a comparison with the stinger..I'm kind of torn between the raw sportiness of the stinger and of course the hatch..and the luxury of the g70..and now they have the nerve to make a regal in a hatch too? ??
@@McBeakerson Audi is literally the only car my friend (who is a master mechanic) said NEVER buy lol. His dad who used to work for Audi ALSO said never buy Audi, they are pieces of shit. So your opinion means nothing
I did find the joke funny, but I have to warn you all plotting to actually wait for three years - luxury Korean vehicles depreciate more like German cars and less like Korean beaters.
A 2015 Hyundai Genesis has held about 60% of its value after 3 years where I live. That's about $26000. An Audi a6 based on current prices, and original cost, has held on to 49% of its value. I can buy a 2015 for $27000. So if i'm going to buy a used luxury car, I'll happily take the Genesis, because that Audi will be a maintenance nightmare. Hyundai products are not as bad as they may have been and are now the 3rd largest automaker. Clearly their products have stepped up a bit. **Edit, I had to change my figures a bit, the Audi I was looking at didn't have comparable kms on it. The higher km A6 was $4000 less, so the proper comparison is Audi A6 31k @56%. I would still buy the Genesis used over the Audi.
I own a Genesis, I'll never own anything else. I use to own a BMW 535i. The Genesis blows it away. It's sooo fun to drive!!
This car is so underrated... GLORIOUS.

The Genesis cars are like the 3 bears. The G70 is too small. The G90 is too expensive. But the G80 is juuuuust right.
iSlandeRon the G90 competes against other large sedans like the Cadillac CT6 and Lincoln Continental, compared to those cars its a great deal
The 90 drives like a boat. It's really a great limo car with those luxurious back seats.

Trade offs for everything. Lower curb weight could mean less sound deadening, etc. You might as well buy an Acura

TheVP yeah but most of them start falling apart after 3 years. Best to get a nice lease returned Lexus.
Love the front end of this car. More aggressive than Audi.
This car is exceptional beautiful design awesome interior very nice Hyundai... this my brand now
I love this car. I've been following this car since it first hit market. Definitely, going to be my first car, lol. I don't care, I'm getting this car, lol.
I wonder what makes him chuckle/laugh when he accelerates? I chuckled too! Makes me wanna drive one!😃
I applaud you for owning a black cat. Too many people overlook them because of stupid superstitions. Props to you, man!
Great Review. I really am impressed by this car. All things considered this powertrain should mean tons of fun in the upcoming G70.
I can't wait for you to get the G70 3.3T to review! That will be THE car!
This car looks great in red.
Also when I shop for 50k+ luxury cars, I always have few more grands to spend on a real luxury car than a Audi Grill with bentley badge knock off
cant wait for the G70, I believe it'll be based off the KIA Stinger platform, or a higher end Sonata with the 3.3T engine and Genesis exterior stylings.
MrPl0xygen wrong. The G80 Sport and G90 are first to have the 3.3T engine. The Stinger is based off the G70 platform.
Lol the stinger isn't a new car underneath
Just spend the extra and get 3 series, lexus IS, or C class.
MrPl0xygen you were right. It’s 2019 car of the year too
@@poymu4929 Lexus performence cars drive like their for old people and the other two will constant a fortune for repairs.
I have been able to drive the G80, and it is quite nice inside. Have not driven the 3.3t or the 5.0. I have driven the 3.8
This really does look fantastic, they are on their way with truly competing with Lexus and the Germans.
My 2018 G80 RWD 3.8L Ultimate is the best car i have ever owned. Just mad at myself for over looking the Genesis brand for so long
I have a 2018 G80 Sport. I love it
Dude, more vids with the cat please. I'm not some crazy cat lover, but your kitty is like 10/10 cute.
I have a 2015 genesis royal , and i love it since day one just great car indeed
Whoever mixed and mastered that track blows.
Man, I love your videos. I just find myself watching all your reviews regardless of what car you are reviewing. You and carwow are my 2 favorite review channels on youtube. :)
You're a very polished speaker! Great videos!!
I love mine. The awd is great in the snow. But the customer service in Canada is pretty terrible. Had some major engine problems which Hyundai Canada completely botched and the car was in over 20 times
Your cat needs to be included in more videos.
search it hyumdai kia sudden accelration
Gorgeous vehicle, love all Genesis vehicles. Reliability is a 10!
🔥🔥🔥I thought I wanted the acura tlx a-spec but I think in two years once I decide to get rid of my 2011 tl which I love to death I think I might go with the g80 sport
Great review! What would you recommend this Genesis G80 sport or an Infiniti Q50 red sport?
I can't understand for the life of me why they refuse to include remote start on the key fob....
If he doesn’t give that laugh when he’s testing the speed you know it sucks. Listen carefully when he talks speed in this video he gives an extra giggle in this one so you know it’s fast.
Excellent Review, Top notch and very detailed
all genesis cars are insanely beautiful. even the g90.
Definitely
God forbid people make a living off making videos... damn people quit complaining about the watch add just skip past if you must.
This dude KNOWS cars. I love it.
I still prefer the genesis coupe for looks. BUT the new g80s are amazing inside!
MaxSpeed the Genesis Coupe was replaced by the G70. But yeah the G80 looks gorgeous.
I think the s2k would be perfect for that
Love your videos! Vincero looks amazing
That cat looks so ninja
Constantine Joseph BMW 7Series is going to be a Straight Up Escalade Killer100 %
@@4038odessa he is talking about the cat, not the car
Love your reviews! So detailed and accurate. Also, looking at the GPS, you must live near me...? :)
I wish they would have the same sport fascia available for the 5.0 Ultimate trim...
not a huge fan of the exterior aside from the grille and the wheels but the interior looks very very nice
I love how your cat is just there. No fucks given.
this - amongst everything else in life, really - makes me want a mid-sized Alfa!
“Which is so nicely packaged”
* takes lid off *
Great review, as always!
Hi Sofyan, I love your reviews and need some advice. I am looking between G80 3.8 or ES350.
Performance, handling, reliability, comfort, quieter cabin and ride quality are the
main aspects I like to know between those. Thanks in advance.
Which did you choose? And how do you like it?
Liked and thanks been waiting on this review.
Considering getting this 2 years used to replace my G37x when the time comes. Unless the G70 Sport wins me over. We'll see!
The reason why its lagging is in the sport there is a 3 tier esc setting. You have to hold the button down for 3 secomds to fully disengage everything. Youll get 4.7 second 0-60;times and the tail will swing out as much as you want
I thought that puts it into “snow” mode?
The carbon fiber needs to be covered by woodgrain vinyl! I hate that stuff. Lol
tornay131 me to
But it’s so sporty bro!!!! Not really.
Agreed. It's fine for structure, not decoration.
quality review as usual..when do you think you can get hand on with a G70?? maybe even a comparison with the stinger..I'm kind of torn between the raw sportiness of the stinger and of course the hatch..and the luxury of the g70..and now they have the nerve to make a regal in a hatch too? ??
I live in Cleveland I’ll take the all wheel drive 🙂 but this model is nice 👍🏿
Just picked up my 2018 G80 3.3 Sport AWD. Sweet.....
Japanese Cars and Korean Cars is so much better and best design ever!!!!
Prabash Paul better than American cars imo
There poop.........
japanese cars is more cool than corean
Korean cars are pretty shit. I know many peopl have Hyundai and kia and its a pain in the ass unreliable.
@@McBeakerson Audi is literally the only car my friend (who is a master mechanic) said NEVER buy lol. His dad who used to work for Audi ALSO said never buy Audi, they are pieces of shit. So your opinion means nothing
Awesome car. Really hope they build an SUV and a replacement the Genesis coupe.
Waiting for that Korean depreciation to kick in.
I'll pick this up in 3 years for $15k. 😁
Refried Beans that watch will hold its resale better
I did find the joke funny, but I have to warn you all plotting to actually wait for three years - luxury Korean vehicles depreciate more like German cars and less like Korean beaters.
German cars are the worst at depression... :(
A 2015 base Hyundai Genesis sedan goes for around $23k+. Good luck LOL
Thank you, great video. It looks really fun to drive.
