Feel so bad for the contestant here. He was so close, if Greg had just said the city names and not clues he definitely would have won.
They make the last round nearly impossible with the 45 second time limit.
Objectively the most dogshit thing to happen to an individual on this show.
Seriously. The clue messages were like twice the length, the kid didn't even flinch at all when he was told the name, he should've won with 20 seconds left over if the clues weren't so long.
Who liked this version of The Contessa (other than myself) more than the second version? The latter version kind of reminded me of an Amelia Earhart type more than anything?
I prefered the second version; this one looked too much like Carmen and was confusing.
RIP Robin Leach
An awesome ep, and brings back fond memories for me of WITIWCS. Why did they decide to use clues for the Europe map in season 1 (and in the US on the pilot eps)? That seemed to slow things down.

These were the original rules from early-recorded episodes. Because of the low win-loss record under that format, they did away with the clues format, then experimented with a 60-second time limit on the Asia map.
I wonder, if they ever tested the game and maps? If they did, they must have done it with people who had really good geography skills, because short of knowing the first or second clue, it was almost impossible.
Litigious Society Or they made it hard to avoid giving away too many grand prizes, which could put the show over budget.
@@jeremyriley1238 I can understand making it hard for that reason, but in many of the early episodes without running very fast and getting the first seven right, there wasn't enough time to win. However, I'm pretty sure the trips were probably provided by one of the sponsors, so I doubt the money was that big of a concern.
In one of the other episodes where they had these clues, you could just see Greg getting impatient with himself and how he's slowing the gumshoe down to the point he said "screw it" and just gave the kid the city and country. I forget which one specifically it was because I've watched so many in the past month lol.
With a bonus round like this, you ideally want a win rate somewhere between 25% and 33%. It needs to be doable, yet challenging, and this win rate is good for the show in all ways. Legends of the Hidden Temple achieved this from the start. Why didn't Carmen?
