As one of the few Gripen fanatics, you're not wrong. Performance for each specific roles is not the best, but a lot of its impressive feats come from logistics, and while that's not reflected in game, we still love the plane for it..
Gripen first participated in Red Flag 2006 with the Gripen. It was signed to the denied AWACS support, reduced ground support. The Gripen connected their link systems and acted themselves as AWACs, got the battlefield awareness necessary and avoided all ground defence, scored 10 kills the first day including a Typhoon. No losses they remained undetected. One Gripen pilot knocked down five F-16 block 50+ during close air combat in Red Flag Alaska. And the Gripens never lost any aerial encounter or failed their mission objectives. It was the only fighter that performed all planed starts, while others were sitting on the ground waiting for the weather to clear up. The evaluation was that Gripens capacity needed to be revaluated. And no disrespect to any other fighters, including Norwegian pilots because they're just as well trained, but during a combat exercise with the Royal Norwegain Air Force, 3 Swedish Gripens went up against 5 RNAF F-16's. The Result was 5-0, 5-0, 5-1 after having flown 3 rounds. The only F15 vs Gripen encounter I know of was during Loyal Arrow in Sweden, 3 F-15C's from the USAF were intercepted by a Gripen acting as an aggressor. The result was 2 F-15's shot down and one managed to escape due to better thrust/weight. To the F15s defence it was on the Gripens back yard.

There are a bunch of things that will be hard to implement i war thunder that belongs to the Gripens strengths. There are some elements in which the Gripen is fantastic that the game can implement, namely energy retention while maneuvering and it's fantastic instantaneous turns. I get your point when you're talking about the gripen fans overestimating its capabilites, but most people are quick to dismiss it by underrating it. It was built for 2 purposes. To keep the costs down and thus break the curve of fighters with unmanagable operating costs, (i.e. hangar queens) aswell as to maintain Swedish air superiorty against a potential Russian attack. The Gripen does this very well, in both regards. The small range and the low payload of the A & C -variants are due to the Gripen having a wide support of the Road Base system in Sweden, where it would land on highway strips back in Sweden after a quick mission, reload, re-arm and get back up into the fight within 15 minutes. As such, the Gripen also holds a fantastic track-reckord when it comes to hours in air vs air on ground/total losses due to maintenance.

Both the Flanker and the F-16 would enter a deep stall before the Gripen, the Gripens instantaneous turn rate is higher than that of the F-16 and the Flanker, with the sustained turn rate being slightly worse. It’s also rated with its FBW system to pull +9/-3g with full fuel load and full weapons load, something the Flanker isn’t. @TheDAWinz Talk to any Gripen pilot they will day the same thing, vs 16 its the pilot who matters, Gripen C is more then able to hold its own arodinamicly.
I imagine the Gripen, especially the first variants, would be kind of lackluster in most aspects as you mentioned but it sure does look good in the aesthetics department
Alot of incorrect info.. No the RB 71s weren´t used, theradar did not handle it. It is a bit wrong to say it is underpowered too as well as just made to be cheap. There is alot more going on. Most of it aimed at the Swedish requirements and it worked and works WONDERS for the Swedish doctrine. It also carries more weapons than the interceptor-Viggen, or more variants atleast.
Screw the Gripen, I grew up watching the Viggen fly over my house, I want to know if the Viggen D gets the AIM-120 which was the entire point of the Viggen D variant.
I'm pretty sure the Gripen will behave kinda like an F-5E on steroids since it was designed to be a very light and agile dogfighter. I believe one of their goals when designing it was for it to be able to counter and out-dogfight Flankers. So expect it to be insane in the first few turns.
I hope they add both D Mav's, 9M's, Amraams and AESA radar. Otherwise, its going to be DOA, unless it's the only new fighter with Fox 3, which it won't be
"They'll just stick to the historical loadout" I don't think Gaijin will do that considering what they did with the F-16C. It's the Block 50, which never used Sparrows in the first place, but it still wound up getting Sparrows in game. Yes, I know it's for balancing because they couldn't just throw the AMRAAM in already, but my point still stands. Gaijin won't stick to historical loadouts if it means sacrificing the balance of the vehicle.
@@GeneralLee2000 could you please provide a source for that 0.93 TWR at 30% fuel figure? Every source I can find reports that the JAS-39C has an empty weight of 6800 kg, an internal fuel capacity of 2400 kg and a reheat thrust of 8200 kgf, so at 30% fuel (720 kg) that would translate to a much better, although not stellar, TWR of 1.09. As a sidenote, the three Eurocanards and the chinese J-10 should not be treated as regular deltas in a dogfight as the high lift-induced drag and consequent loss of speed that plagued older delta fighters in high G turns is greatly reduced by their unstable canard design.
I’m sorry to say bro but u are actually kinda wrong when u say the gripen is a worse f-16 and here is why : Gripen first participated in Red Flag 2006 with the Gripen A,’ says Stefan Englund , former Swedish Air Force Flight Engineer on Quora. ‘It was assigned to the red team. Reduced AWACS, reduced ground support. The Gripens connected their link systems and acted themselves as AWACs, got the battlefield awareness necessary and avoided all ground defence, scored 10 kills the first day including a Typhoon. The Result was 5-0, 5-0, 5-1 after having flown 3 rounds. F-16 has a higher TWR [thrust to weight ratio], but one need to consider drag and wing loading too. The Gripen has much lower drag. And far lower wing loading. It can reach supersonic speeds on dry thrust while carrying a full armament of four AMRAAM’s two Sidewinders and an external fuel tank. Even though the Gripen lacks the TWR of the F-16 it can nearly match it in climb rate thanks to low drag. ‘The Gripen is among the most underestimated fighters flying today, Englund continues: ‘During Loyal Arrow in Sweden, 3 F-15C’s from the USAF were intercepted by a Gripen acting as an aggressor. The result was 2 F-15’s shot down and one managed to escape due to better thrust/weight. To the F-15s defence it was on the Gripens back yard. The F-15 can stay out of a fight with a Gripen, keep it on distance, BVR if they can see it and avoid the Meteors, but it is not a wise strategy to engage,’ Stefan Englund , former Swedish Air Force Flight Engineer. Just like all of you, I'm waiting for the Fox 3's missiles, but I don't agree with the fact that they are coming to the game now, not with the way the air RB battles are carried out, maybe in the air SB they will be fun, but imagine the chaos that would be adding this type of weaponry without first preparing decent maps and balancing teams 10vs10 or even 8vs8 from 11.7 onwards? Until this happen i want these missiles far from the game, at least in air RB.
I don't expect they are going to reduce the number of players in battles. They increased it in order to keep matchmaking fast. That is one of Gaijin's most important priorities. They do everything to avoid long matchmaking it's integral to their free to play model. They'll probably keep adding larger maps and focus on working around that.
I HATE how gaijin gave britain a GRIPEN instead of the gr9 the thought that they didn’t add the gr9 physically enrages me like Britain never operated a SWEDISH aircraft haeck it’s quite the opposite as the Swedish operated vampires and hunters in their airforce
Why does everyone assume that Gaijin will throw everything at us in one huge update. Sure the Christmas update is always big but they are seriously running out of top end things to introduce. My guess is that we get the F-15 and MAYBE the Su-27, or more likely the MiG-25, allowing the US mains to flex for a few months until the Su-27 and Gripen show up next year. AMRAAMs are IMO still a way off, once those are in the game there really are only 4-5 updates left before the game enters its final stagnation.
I hope britain does get the Gripen because its honestly such a beautiful plane and i dont want to have to grind the entirety of Sweden's Air TT just to play it.

Alright my take on the Gripen, it'll be a solid dogfighter/Interceptor, however it won't have one thing: Fox 3's (RB 99's/AIM-120B) Otherwise its flight performance will be solid, its speed will be able to pace the MiG-29, ATA weapons wise AIM-7M's AIM-9M's Overall: Very solid 4th Gen Fighter/Interceptor that can compete with the SMT, F-16C, and Mirage 2000-5F.
It won’t be a good dogfighter(at least at top tier, it has literally the same t/w as mig-21 has, it is also a dorito plane so it will be similar to 21 performance wise so it’ll be able to win 1C fight in 1-2 turns but then there will be only 2 ways - try to run away or die)

Don’t get me wrong, the F-16 is an extraordinary plane in many regards, and so is the Flanker. But none of these will make one or the other into mince without careful strategy.
@@wellerocks I literally have declassified documentation saying otherwise, i would link but youtube doesn't like links so if you're in leecord ill post it there. 24d/s ITR and 12 degrees sustained, both are recorded at 50% fuel. F-16A does that at 100%.

I imagine the Gripen, especially the first variants, would be kind of lackluster in most aspects as you mentioned but it sure does look good in the aesthetics department
so bassicly the gripen will be dead on arrival ill stop my grind then xD

well yeah, gaijin could have added the early gripen A which would only have had the aim9L and skyflash

Ok. Watch the video.
the Grippen was actually the first stealth bomber ever developed by the Russian army.

A moderator kind of softly denied the Amraam coming this patch. It was a really soft denial so who knows.
My guess is the snail is unsure if fox3’s are ready for this patch, so they are trying to lower hype without outright saying they aren’t coming.
I'm pretty sure the Gripen will behave kinda like an F-5E on steroids since it was designed to be a very light and agile dogfighter. I believe one of their goals when designing it was for it to be able to counter and out-dogfight Flankers. So expect it to be insane in the first few turns.

Video on British top tier potential addition?
Almost certainly a Tornado F.3 CSP with AMRAAM and AIM-9M. Sea Harrier with AMRAAM is another possibility.
"They'll just stick to the historical loadout"
I don't think Gaijin will do that considering what they did with the F-16C. It's the Block 50, which never used Sparrows in the first place, but it still wound up getting Sparrows in game. Yes, I know it's for balancing because they couldn't just throw the AMRAAM in already, but my point still stands. Gaijin won't stick to historical loadouts if it means sacrificing the balance of the vehicle.
they also gave the ja37C the rb24(aim9B) which it never used and is never mentioned in any manuals
What is actually been confirmed for this patch? I have seen the "Gripen" posts, and that UK will have a new top tier plane. Anything else?
New leopard for germany, probably pso with longer gun and proper armor package or leo2a6ex

On empty fuel, he said 0.93 at 30% fuel
@@gregc9344 that is still incorrect
Mig-25/31 variants next!
I’m sorry to say bro but u are actually kinda wrong when u say the gripen is a worse f-16 and here is why :
Gripen first participated in Red Flag 2006 with the Gripen A,’ says Stefan Englund , former Swedish Air Force Flight Engineer on Quora. ‘It was assigned to the red team. Reduced AWACS, reduced ground support. The Gripens connected their link systems and acted themselves as AWACs, got the battlefield awareness necessary and avoided all ground defence, scored 10 kills the first day including a Typhoon.
And no disrespect to any other fighters, including Norwegian pilots because they’re just as well trained, but during a combat exercise with the Royal Norwegain Air Force, 3 Swedish Gripens went up against 5 RNAF F-16’s.
‘The Gripen is among the most underestimated fighters flying today,
Englund continues: ‘During Loyal Arrow in Sweden, 3 F-15C’s from the USAF were intercepted by a Gripen acting as an aggressor.

Also pls pin 📌 this comment so people read it Xd
You know in these exercises they're to train the allied pilots in scenarios right? They play out like scripts not like actual dogfights. Also using Quora as a source over declassified flight data lmao. Here's the real facts. Gripen C has 24 degrees a second ITR and 12 degrees a second sustained turn rate on 50% fuel and below 1 to 1 thrust to weight. This is matched by a F-16A on 100% fuel. Don't believe me? Take it up with the declassified documents.

@codyfox2876 idk man but 16vs16 in top tier for me is too much

Lee how you get that skin for the viggen?
I HATE how gaijin gave britain a GRIPEN instead of the gr9 the thought that they didn’t add the gr9 physically enrages me like Britain never operated a SWEDISH aircraft haeck it’s quite the opposite as the Swedish operated vampires and hunters in their airforce
Why is it when he shoots down a plane it says "it works for me" rather than aircraft destroyed or something?
If your a pc user you can edit kill nd hit text but for me It did mess up and brake a lot of the naming and words for vehicles
GRIPEN GRIPEN GRIPEN GRIPEN
I think it would be more apt for the UK to receive a Canadian or Australian Hornet? I can imagine anything else.
Hope it’s got kepd and bk90

YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I'll just be happy if its as good as the f16c.
Alright my take on the Gripen, it'll be a solid dogfighter/Interceptor, however it won't have one thing:
Fox 3's (RB 99's/AIM-120B)
Otherwise its flight performance will be solid, its speed will be able to pace the MiG-29, ATA weapons wise
AIM-7M's
AIM-9M's
Overall: Very solid 4th Gen Fighter/Interceptor that can compete with the SMT, F-16C, and Mirage 2000-5F.

@@magicmonkey5144 Red Flag is not a valid method of estimating the performance of an aircraft. The Eurofighter is quantifiably better than the Gripen in terms of flight performance and weapons systems in every single metric bar the instantaneous turn rate (0.1 degrees per second difference).
The Gripen is not bad but the Eurofighter particularly Tranche 3 onwards is quantifiably one of if not the best non-stealth fighters in the world, and this is through numerical comparison.
