University avenue used to be Elm Avenue closer to town and then Malpeque Road as you got out of town. Became University Avenue when UPEI was established from St Dunstan’s U and Prince of Wales College. Great George St was originally that name. It was changed to University Avenue and then back to Great George as it was the original name when the Fathers of Confederation walked up to Province House in 1864. So history dictated it should have it’s original name.
