As I teen, I tried to save my alcoholic father and lost. As an adult, I've tried to save friends and lost. Though I've never followed or been a fan of eithers music, this song speaks to all who have almost broken themselves trying to save others. You can't stop ANYONE from living how they choose. I learned the hard way that even the unconditional love from an innocent child literally hanging on a grown man's leg will not stop an addict from getting their next fix. Those who can be critical about this video should be glad they cannot relate.

I just lost my only sibling and brother last year on January 10th of 2022, to an overdose. He was months shy of his 50th birthday and he struggled with drugs for 32 years of his life. What he put our family through for all those years was indescribable unless you’ve been through it personally with a loved one. I never stopped loving him but at times I had to pull away from him for my own sanity, mental well-being and physical health. He always knew I loved him because I’d tell him so, but he did so much to hurt myself, our parents, my husband, my children and all our extended family. Until you’ve been through this struggle with someone you love. You truly have no idea what you’re going to do or how you’re going to feel. We put him through so many rehab facilities during those 32 years but that got expensive. We did 51/50’s on him every chance we got. He’d go through periods where he’d be sober but he never really dealt with his mental health issues properly and instead would self medicate with drugs. He was on drugs more than he was off of them. He did Duster like Aaron. Pain pills, crack, and Xanax was one of his favorites. What ultimately killed him was a bad morphine pill. It was laced with fentanyl. He had fentanyl, Xanax, morphine, and cocaine in his system. His heart gave out on him. It slowed down his breathing and he passed in his sleep. We hadn’t spoken in months when he died, but I reached out to him on Christmas Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day to tell him I was thinking about him, missed him so much and loved him more than he knew. He didn’t respond to me but I know he saw my texts. This is the hardest thing I’ve ever been through and I’ve lost too many people to count in my life. I just wish people could understand what it’s like loving an addict. You sometimes have to learn to love them from afar. 😢 I don’t wish this on anyone. Now myself and my family are left to pick up the pieces and constantly ask ourselves “what if”.

@@mimij5507 He had issues from the time he was very little and they went undiagnosed until he was in Elementary school. It wasn’t until he graduated that they diagnosed him with Bipolar disorder and manic depression. He was diagnosed with a learning disability as a young child and he had ADHD. He was very mentally unstable and the drugs unfortunately only exacerbated his issues. My parents were actually told some of his mental health issues were drug induced. He struggled his entire life. Every day was a challenge for him just to get out of bed. When he was in his 40’s he got diagnosed with low testosterone and was put on steroids for that issue. It was a lot. He tried committing suicide numerous times and OD’d a handful of times prior to his death a year ago on the 10th. I loved him but he did some really messed up stuff to our family. I’d have to pull away during those times. There were times I couldn’t allow him around my children and although it hurt him he did understand the reasoning. I’m glad you asked. Don’t apologize for asking a good question. A lot of people that have mental health issues actually end up doing drugs to self medicate. We went to family therapy and counseling to cope and deal with all the things he was going through and that he had done to us and put us through. I never stopped loving him and I never will. I miss his smile, joking ways and laughter every day. It’s not easy loving an addict and you do what you have to do to make sure it doesn’t affect you too terribly bad. Some people actually disown their family members that are addicts. We just never completely cut him off. He had an amazing support system, but even that wasn’t enough in the end.

I think people who have never dealt with an addict or a mentally ill friend/family member can't understand any of this, they just expect people to take the abuse for years and keep going and it doesn't work that way. And it should be obvious but none of us know the full extent of everything they have been through. I also think if he didn't do a tribute people would complain about the lack of concern so he can't win no matter what he does but I think this was just for him anyway.

That said, whats important to remember is you CAN love an addict from a distance. Its wrong IMHO to enable them or allow the behavior his LMG always has as well as have the audactity to expect Nick to enable him just bc they cant see the truth. I admire Nick for what hes done, esp with the platform he has & at such a young age. He could have sank into the drama & chose not to. LMG live for drama + chaos, hence why they blame, deflect & project. So much more I could say, but you said it well. My mom was an addict for the majority of my life & ODd yrs ago. I feel like this is his best song yet. Vulnerable, honest, raw and u can feel his emotions through his lyrics. I feel him singing this and expressing his true feelings out loud to everyone will help let go of any guilt he's had over the years. The could've, should've, wouldve we all ask ourselves after loosing someone to mental health illness. It's not for clout or etc it's to help him in his healing process. Bc he did try to help Aaron numerous times but one has to want to help themselves even if in the slightest. Aaron lost any and all hope in humanity years ago from all his trauma he is experienced growing up. I would love to know what Momma Jane thought when she watched Nick's video for the first time.

I felt like it was a heartfelt tribute song and he even wrote this apparently several months before Aaron passed away because he was thinking about a way to reconcile with Aaron and thats why I believe he initially wrote this song so maybe he could use music as a way to show he cared about his brother because music was a language they both understood, at least that’s what I saw fans of Nick write…
Ofcourse we don’t know how Aaron would react to that and if he would get over his anger/jealousy towards Nick…
And now its a tribute song to Aaron obviously…
And yeah, LMG is not having it, Scotian Savage isn’t having it (ofcourse), but these people should maybe take a look in the mirror someday.
Like all they did was support AC and they never did anything “wrong” in their life…
Give me a break, imo Nick did try his best to help AC, but I just don’t think he was ready to accept anyones help, let alone, his own brother who he envied and bashed time and time again…

Nick did more for Aaron than any lmg or scotian did. Aaron needed treatment and rehab, music touring boxing wasn’t/wouldnt/didn’t save Aaron. he needed to get healthy then maybe those things could have been his new vice that kept him going. But until in a better state of mind, the man couldn’t anything. Scotian, as far as I could tel never pushed for rehab. He ignored so much for so long.
Lmg kept telling him he was fine and attacked people who said different. They only ever believe what Aaron said. In my mind, lmg did far damage than good. And I will always remind them how they held Aaron’s hand and helped him to an early grave.

My opinion of the different faces is perhaps the different emotions you go through with that person you love dearly, that continues to hurt you with their choices & actions during addiction. Everything on the spectrum of love to hate.
Obviously the idea is that regardless of what we've been through with that person, we'll always still love them.
We will all have personal opinions on who Aaron was & what if anything his family could have done differently, but having been on both sides of that coin (addict/ person loving an addict) you should never really judge how other people deal with addiction & grief, however we can agree that loss is loss & pain is pain no matter what happened.
Please do all you can for as long as you can & you might just save a life 💜

Coming from the perspective of the former addict and the things that I put my family through, I can see now how horrible it was and why they did the things they did to try and help me. My sister and brother in law had my (then) two year old son until he was 4 when I had finally sobered up and started changing my life around. Thankfully I made the choices to change and get sober. I've had my son back since just after his 4th birthday and he'll be 11 this year. But I had to make that choice. No one else could do it for me. It's one thing when you can finally look in the mirror and see how different you are and what you need to do to fix it. It's another when everyone around you wants it, but you. Now I'm almost 6 years at the same company, just got a promotion to be a lead, and literally just stared going back to school today for my BS in Health Administration and Information Management. It's been a long road and having to try different medications and learning to keep perspective, but it's been worth every minute. It breaks my heart that Nick and his family had been through so much turmoil and heart ache. I can't imagine having this kind of pain and sadness all through childhood and to end up losing not one, but two siblings to drugs and mental illness, it's so heart breaking. I'm so proud of Nick for how far he's come on his own sober journey, and his own battle with demons. It's not easy to fight your own battles within as well as try to lift someone else at the same time. I don't blame him for eventually having to pull away for his own mental health and sobriety. This is a beautiful song, the most raw and open, honest words I've ever heard. Well done! ❤ I pray for peace and health for the entire Carter family and kids.

I don’t find it being “Dramatic” at all. I find it not flashy but raw. Nick put into a song what he was feeling in his heart and people blamed him for being silent about his brothers death. But yet he opened up his heart and soul in the best way he knew how. Through music. He let us all in on how much it hurts to have a friend or family member struggle. See the downright spiral and not being able to force him to get better.
Aaron wasn’t a child. He had choices. Ultimately this ended in tragedy as so often it does with addiction and mental health. Nick had his share of battling addiction but he made the decision to turn his life around. When it comes down to it he has 3 very small children and he had to do what he could to protect them.
So anyone who has something to say about him profiting from this is an inhumane human. Until it happens to you and you live it you have no right to say anything.
I loved sober Aaron but if you have watched his lives he talks about family wanting to get him help. In his exact words he was sober 5 years. You have to take responsibility for your actions. I know from experience from self medicating with alcohol and it almost destroyed my life. But I emphasize I let it happen. The addict thinks that they are only hurting themselves. But it takes down all the people in your life that love you.
A beautiful tribute that Nick didn’t do for publicity but to heal ❤️‍🩹 Aaron was extremely talented and I loved sober Aaron. It comes down to tough love.
Much respect for Nick to allow us into his heart because I believe many people can relate. I hope he can heal and others can as well who have lived with the helplessness of trying to save someone who doesn’t want saved. 💔

8.26 prime example. Its on purpose. Maybe he knows he is twofaced. Aaron needed to hear those words when he was alive. Aaron said it on his lives how he loved his brother. Nick didnt. He wiped him out his life and never acknowledged his existence.

Keep The mean comments to your self never wish guilt on someone that lost his brother. Look that would all beat the purpose if he sang to him while he was alive. Because Cleary he waited.Bcause he knew that the song he wrote he want to dedicate to his brother when he passed. Listen to the song instead judging. The song said he always prayed for somehow peace could touch your soul. Now if it was ment to played then. The song might of said I always pray somehow that peace will touch your soul. The key word in the song I always PRAYED. See the ed. Nick tried to help Aaron. Aaron told everyone his family to leave him alone. Aaron was stubborn didn’t want no one help. Aaron thought he could have it under control his self the situation with the addiction. Face it Nick wrote that song before. Because he knew tho he had hope.
