CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Edna (John Travolta) and Wilbur Turnblad (Christopher Walken) sing about their devotion to each other.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Adam Shankman's adaptation of the stage musical Hairspray, itself an adaptation of the non-musical John Waters film of the same name, stars Nikki Blonsky as Tracy Turnblad, an overweight high-school student whose only dream is to be on a local Baltimore teen dance program. While her father (Christopher Walken) tells her to follow her dreams, her mother Edna (John Travolta in drag) reminds her that she doesn't look like the girls on that show. After impressing the show's host (James Marsden), Tracy earns a coveted spot on the program, but when she becomes a popular addition to the cast, she earns the wrath of the prettiest girl in school -- a girl whose mother (Michelle Pfeiffer) just happens to operate the local television station. Tracy's visit to detention hall opens her eyes to the racial tension on the show, as does the budding relationship between her best friend (Amanda Bynes) and an African-American boy named Seaweed (Elijah Kelley). Thus empowered, Tracy attempts to integrate the races on her favorite program.

Only Christopher Walken could seriously pull off that kind of chemistry with John Travolta. Tremendous.
They did feel legit. It has to be some "chemistry." It's not like I don't know who they are BUT it's sooo believable.
Seriously… the final scene where he encourages her to join the dance… the absolute adoration for her in his voice is palpable.

My fiancé and his parents went to hairspray recently and when this song was off, his mom whispered to me and him that Wilbur and Edna reminded her of us. I bursted out laughing. Besides being nowhere near Edna’s side she’s right. My fiancé and I are just like them
I love this scene, but all I can think about is the fact that she left the iron on and facedown on the ironing board. 😭😭

Both Christopher Walken and John Travolta positively blew my mind! I work with a special Ed woman who plays this movie just about every day, but I always appreciate it because they did such a magnificent job. Also the daughter was great.

I know it's a guy in drag but Edna is gorgeous, I love her. Edna is so lucky to have Wilbur as her husband. Also interestingly Travolta and Walken have both played an angel - both of which were portrayals of archangels.

It is so weird to see John Travolta dressed like a lady. It is so funny. Normally he always played serious masculine characters. Right now I am also watching a Saturday Night Fever clip of him on youtube and in that clip he is a lot younger and a hot looking guy. In this hairspray clip he is playing an awkward funny chubby lady. Bravo to him. He is talented.
