As being an artist myself ( sculptor and painter) Nick Cave has been my greatest inspiration for 30 some years. His sensitivity, all the beauty and vulnerability, the raw brutality, all the feelings that he expresses. The way he is constantly evolving. And if you have the chance to see him perform live, he is also an outstanding entertainer. His concerts are simply the best.

Was certainly an influence although if u look at the biginnings of Nick's stuff it's also very desinguishable, also different epocques and therefore developement as an artist (I say this because the association with LC and Tom Waits is mentioned everywhere and I feel is necessary to destinguish them as well xD). For an example, check out the version of Avalanche, which is the first song of their first album (of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds; he had previous bands before that). The anguer of a post punk gothic sound and scene of the 80s was very present there.
From the Ghosteen album which was released after his sons death. Listen from start to finish, uninterrupted, with headphones and a person like yourself will love the experience.
I would strongly suggest to you a song by Robert Plant called I Believe, written in the early 90’s as a way to say a final farewell to his beloved son Karac, who died suddenly in 1977 at the age of 7. Another father dealing with the immense snd overwhelming grief of losing a young child.
“Oh my god.” was the exact same reaction I had after listening to this gem for the first time. I was in bed in the dark with headphones on, and I listened to the whole record, front to back, what an experience. I did have to pause after two songs just to take in what I had just heard: - Bright Horses, and… - Sun Forest I honestly think “Oh my god”… is about the most appropriate response anyone could have. The songwriting on this album is elevated, and between Skeleton Tree and then Ghosteen, I could not be more excited to hear the new album they’ve been working on.
Nick is incredible, listen to push the sky away and jubilee street. He’s one of the deepest artists I’ve ever seen. Driving from Florida to New York in October for his show at the Becon Theatre. He has a dark New York vibe and the freaks come out. Metal heads, punks, street creatures and vampires. Totally a incredible experience!

For something sadder, maybe Distant sky or Girl in amber. For something darker or less balladlike, Stagger Lee, Jubilee street (live in Denmark), O children, Higs boson blues, The weeping song, Fifteen feet of pure white snow. And many more :-)

Thank you Daniel for bringing me to this beautiful and so moving song. I did already know that Nick Cave's son had tragically died quite close to where I live on the South East coast of England and guest after the first few notes that it was going to be about his loss. It must be so difficult to come to terms with losing a child who is just coming into the full force of his life. I think this song will help those people struggling with such loss.
I don't think this is Bad Seeds. Just Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. This came out after the tragic death of his son. I have always been a fan but the stuff he's done since then is so full of grief that it makes me cry. Btw, he's done some wonderful soundtracks, the Proposition is on constant rotation in my house. He wrote the screenplay as well, a really great film. He may be my favorite artist and that's a hard thing for me to quantify.
He did a duet with pop singer Kylie Minogue (because they are both Aussies) called "Where the Wild Roses Grow". They alternate verses in this song, and the video is beautiful. That's a a great song that I listen twice I know what it means to lose someone. My Grandma, mother and sister. Said song but a good one and I am also surprised that that the song was made not that long ago.
