Postcolonial feminism developed as a response to the feminists that focused solely on the experiences of women belonging to western cultures and former colonies. It emphasises on the ways racisms, and colonial rule with its long lasting political, economic, cultural and social effects has impacted the lives of non-white and non-western women in the post-colonial world. It emerged as a critique of universalising tendencies of the experiences of women belonging to the mainstream feminism to those living in the non-western countries. This particular area of feminism provides a comprehensive view of the intricate levels of oppression that exist within any given society.
